I don't get it. Everything I saw there was 3E stuff. Why announce a newsletter for 3E gaming in the OOP section? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 06-09-04 11:16 PM My guess would be because it's a community wide newsletter, and it's posted on all the forums. It's a function of the software. The Newsletter board has been around a long time. http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=429 You should ask Snark if he's taking OOP submissions. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 06-10-04 12:05 AM Since I'm such a nice guy, I asked for you. Wiz0 Paradox: Oh, I wanted to know if you'd accept OOP articles for the newsletter. WizO Snark: Yes. OOP is part of the community. WizO Snark: As long as it isn't a 3.0 gripefest WizO Snark:An article with a broad appeal to the OOP ppl would be a nice idea. One on maximizing your half-giant psion in Dark Sun 1.2 using D&D 2.0 rules with the options guide would not be. And, if you read the newsletter, not all of it was 3.0 specific. Take a look at mine. It's Edition Free. :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Algolei Date : 06-10-04 07:47 AM From the Submission Guidelines: (http://wizo.wizards.com/ka/guidelines.php) What Are We Looking For In general, we are looking for works that benefit the Wizards Online Community. These can include gaming articles, community related articles, personal reviews, games and puzzles, comic strips, works of fiction or anything else that may be beneficial to the community. It's a communist thing. ;) Think they'd accept a 1st-edition module submission? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : radwizard Date : 06-10-04 01:41 PM Originally posted by Algolei Think they'd accept a 1st-edition module submission? The OoP boards is part of the community. As for 1st edition material not helping Dungeons and Dragons, I don't subscribe to that theory. Many of us play all editions, so we like to talk about it all. :) If the comment was about the length of the module, they could alway post it in installments ... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Algolei Date : 06-11-04 03:37 AM Nah, I never worry about length. Mostly because I'm too lazy to fill even the basic requirements. In high school, my three-page essays had to be quintuple-spaced. I once managed to write a twenty-page essay, but only by going with a one-word-to-the-page format. I got so many F's in high school, my parents thought the teachers were calling me Algoleif. "No no," I would say, "they think my name is Igoleif. And I got an A on that paper." My parents never believed me, though. Not that I could blame them, it was such a pathetic story: Who ever heard of a name like Igoleif? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : beavis123 Date : 06-11-04 06:48 AM Thread Title : the voice of reason I think the community would like to see OOP submissions. It would be a good variety of source material. I am considering doing a Dark*Matter Alternity submision or something from Star Frontiers. I would like to see something from Basic Set/ Expert Set. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : chatdemon Date : 06-12-04 04:53 AM Not trying to rain on Knowledge Arcana's parade (I did find parts of the debut issue interesting), but I think sending your OOP submissions to ezines like OD&Dities or Footprints serves the OOP community far better. Here in the D&D community at large, we're a small, often overlooked segment, those other zines specifically serve our fellow OOPers, not all of whom are present in this forum. edit: Note: I am not affiliated with OD&Dities ezine, Footprints ezine or the staffmembers of OD&D Guild or Dragonsfoot (the respective "parent" sites for the two zines) in any way. Just a supportive fan of both groups and their zines. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 06-12-04 10:01 AM Originally posted by chatdemon [B]Not trying to rain on Knowledge Arcana's parade (I did find parts of the debut issue interesting), but I think sending your OOP submissions to ezines like OD&Dities or Footprints serves the OOP community far better. If you guys don't want to participate and send it material, that's one thing. But then you can't turn around and say we don't care about you guys or that you're swept under the rug or overlooked. You can't complain if you don't participate! If however you want this corner of this community to be represented, I suggest going over to the newsletter board and submitting material. I'm sorry to sound so defensive, Chatdemon, but you certainly wouldn't like it if Gygax went to Cannonfire and said, "Don't bother posting or reading this forum, because the only REAL and Official material that supports the setting is at my house. You're just wasting your time and not really serving the community by being here." BTW, The other WizOs like the idea of a conversion board. I still have to find a mod and where to place it (on the assumption I add the board before re-structuring. If I wait until after re-structuring, it fits nicely.) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 06-12-04 10:08 AM (Edit) Also, don't forget to put your opinions on what you'd like to see for UnCon in this thred.> http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=249560 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : chatdemon Date : 06-12-04 06:37 PM Originally posted by WizO_Paradox I'm sorry to sound so defensive, Chatdemon, but you certainly wouldn't like it if Gygax went to Cannonfire and said, "Don't bother posting or reading this forum, because the only REAL and Official material that supports the setting is at my house. You're just wasting your time and not really serving the community by being here." I was referring more to the atitudes of a lot of the posters on this forum, not the moderators. There's thousands and thousands of people signed up here, and only and handful that post in the OOP section. To me, that's more like someone who comes to canonfire for a specific feature we offer, but is more interested in say, adapting some material to their dragonlance campaign. In that case I'd have no problem with someone directing them to a DL fansite. I didn't mean to sound like I was accusing the staff here of making us unwelcome. I more than realize that if wotc or the wizos didn't want us, this forum wouldn't be here. I just worry that the OOP, especially Basic D&D, community is fairly small and fragile, and don't know if trying to ride the wave of 3e/d20 is the best way for us to promote our end of the fan spectrum. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 06-12-04 06:59 PM Thanks! :) That's why I think we NEED people to write up some mateial, to get them interested in the area. In any case, while I've got a Footprints submission higher on my to do list, I'm considering submitting something to KA. Worse that can happen is they reject it, and that can happen whether they've said they'd print OOP stuff or not. I think OOP material in KA would be good for many reasons. I think it would be good for the entire community KA serves. Besides, would the KA, Footprints, or OD&Dities editors really mind so much if a few articles appear in more than one of the zines? If KA accepted an OOP-related article from me, I'd probably want to submit it to one of the other zines later on. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 16] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 06-14-04 12:33 PM Originally posted by WizO_Catoblepas I'm sure they would accept it, just as long as it hasn't been published before. Well I've been known to occasionally put pen to paper to jot down the occasional dungeon-crawl, so maybe I'll submit something. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 19] Author : diaglo Date : 06-16-04 08:20 AM and Snark is an even older gamer than Doxxie. both physically and chronologically in terms of years of play. yes, he does prefer the newer editions. but he started with the OD&D boxed set pre-Holmes. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 20] Author : Algolei Date : 06-17-04 01:48 AM diaglo!
