Who here has a beloved character from an OOP game? Mine would be Zachery Lazast, a Magic User from OD&D. A friend and I found the old red box set. He rolled up an Elf, and I put together an absent minded teen wizard with pimpin' charisma. He had a crappy CON score though. As a child, he was a slave. His masters intended for him to get killed off instantly. (Before he picked up any levels.) The guy who attacked him got so owned it isn't funny. He was mentally scarred, and was prone to fits of rage. He was bought by a family of wealthy Elven nobles, and that's where he was trained as a wizard. I have since converted Zach to 3.5, and he is a Wiz5/Bbn2. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Lord Ikrik Date : 06-12-04 08:32 PM Back in high school (Triassic period) i had a tough female warrior named Jessynda Redthorn. She was a bit headstrong and sometimes forgot the advantage of planning things. Once she got into an altercation with some town gaurds and fought her way out of a citadel with a two handed sword only to realise that there was a perfectly good Cloak of the Bat tucked into her backpack. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Algolei Date : 06-13-04 06:52 AM Well, most of the characters I've played weren't from OOP games at the time.... One of my favourite characters was my nephew's PC. He decided, for that character, to have a motto: "It's always more heroic when the building's on fire." Unfortunately, he came up with it on the spur of the moment: They were passing a peasant's cottage when they heard a woman screaming. He told the others to set the thatch roof on fire while he went inside to rescue her. Unbeknownst to him, she was being attacked by an imp! So he ended up battling an imp in a burning cottage, taking damage himself from the fire while the imp was immune. But that didn't stop him from following his motto! He eventually died near a burning building, after he came up with the most STOOPID plan I've ever seen. Ugh! The strategy is too long to go into here, so let me just give the highlights: They split up; they approached a noble's manor unarmed; one of them set it on fire as a distraction; once the thing was burning fine--and after two of them had been killed by the evil butler (it was a mystery scenario, and the butler was the bad guy!)--the only one who could have escaped jumped into the building to rescue his parents, the nobles whose house they had just set on fire! Damn, that was a great character! :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Kalitharus Date : 06-21-04 06:42 AM I have a vote for favorite NPC in an OOP game... The Master of the Desert Nomads, Hosadus :smirk: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : kengar Date : 06-22-04 10:53 AM I would have to say it was my 1e elven thief, Kengar :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : DmJoeSolarte Date : 06-25-04 02:21 AM I usually DM'd so I guess I can only go with what I saw. From the first time I started playing DnD back in 1982 or 83, my brother created a Dwarf Fighter named Wolfoz Dathill. He loved the character, and I made him in the original boxed set DnD, his loyal squire Pippen, a halfling. THen came ADVANCED DnD. A new Wolfoz Dathill was made (it was never clear if it was the same one) was created. Although he did have a new halfling squire named Peregren. Then came the MIDDLE EARTH ROLEPLAYING from Iron Crown Enterprises. And a new Wolfoz Dathilll was made, this time with a loyal hobbit sidekick named Wee-Hunt. It was this Wolfoz and Wee-Hunt that I used in a cross over episode, where in an effort to summon a warrior powerfull enough to help save our MARVEL SUPER HERO earth from Galactus, my character, Merlin, using a GATE spell, opened a gate to draw the "LEgendary Warrior" to our world, to save it. THe twist was that we knew the "Legendary Warrior" was rumored to be finally defeated and his world destroyed by a mythical giant. Since we were not sure if this battle with Galactus was the 'Battle', I decided to Gate the LEGENDARY WARRIOR to our world when he was relatively young, so that we would be assured victory (since he was never known to know defeat). I spent a good 2 months setting it up, too. First, I did an adventure in MIDDLE EARTH, where at the very end, the GATE spell appeared in their end and Wolfoz was drawn into it. The SPell users in the party tried to save him, but could not stop hi m. I noted that they sensed "Something different" about the Wizard that was drawing Wolfoz to him. And of course, WeeHunt lept into the Gate to save his master, ever the loyal sidekick, but then the gate closed. I noted I had a plan, but did not reveal what it was. I started hinting at the existence of THE LEGENDARY WARRIOR, when I started my DragonLance-event, where I had it where on Marvel Earth, the Cataclym that destroyed Atlantis enabled Tiamat/Takhisis, to return to the world from her long Exile. ONly instead of Huma being the one that banished her, it was THE LEGENDARY WARRIOR. I slowly started to build towards it. My brother said he had it all figured out, that he KNEW it was really the Eternal, Gilgamesh, whom was appearing in WEST COAST AVENGERS comics. I only smiled and continued. Finally, when Galactus began his attempt to destroy Earth, Uatah the Watcher appeared, informing the Avengers of what was at stake and that the current crew of Avengers (Merlin, Iron Man, THor, Green Lanter, Kobold, Miss Marvel) were not enough to stop him. It was then I mentioned as Merlin that I held a Gate Spell and told how I could summon the LEGENDARY WARRIOR to our aid with it. After some disagreeing, we agreed to do it. The Spell was cast, and I led up to the arrival. My brother did not catch it at first. Then, as I started to announce them, he was like "WHAT?". I then pulled out the secret character sheets I had already prepared for Wolfoz and WeeHunt. And offered to NPC Iron Man for him if he wanted to run Wolfoz. He immediately agreed, loving this twist. I pretty much gave Wolfoz enough power to help us vs Galactus. Unearth Fighting, Strength, and Endurance, resistance to damage. His mighy War Axe "Killer". Some other things. It was a great cross over, he really enjoyed it and so did I. It was really a twist. I even exanded upon it, with storylines involving a female elf character from MIDDLE EARTH becoming 'THE GODDESS' from the storyline that Marvel did; in our world, the Shi'Ar were not the avian race from the comics, but decided that SHi-Ar were the Noldor Elfs from the party on MERP, whom had come to this UNIVERSE millions of years before and established eventually became their Imperium. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Slyde Shadowdart Date : 06-25-04 11:12 PM 2nd AD&D character. Slyde Shadowdart (aka: Mercury Boy ;)) Halfling Thief Slyde was an absolute blast to play. He had this idea that although he was small, and not the best fighter, he had to be right in the thick of things. No delusions of grandeur, he just couldn't stand the idea of being a 5th wheel. (In fact, he constantly poked fun at the party spellcaster for "Staying in the back" ) Coupled with his inability to avoid being in the middle of a fight, was his impulsive streak. When younger, he had been coddled and was never allowed to do anything "adventurous." This caused a streak of quick action in him that eventually resulted in his demise. Here's how it happened, and how he got the nick-name. *Our heroes have travelled for what seems like days underneath the ground.* DM: You come upon a pedastal with a large bowl resting on it. As you approach, you see that it's filled with a strange silvery substance, that seems to be both liquid and solid as you look at it. Mage: Perhaps this is the portal we've been searching for? *readies detect magic* Dan (me, as Slyde): *I walk toward it.* "One way to find out!" *I stick my head in the pool.* Party: You what??! DM: Roll save vs. Death Magic. Me: aww...dang it. :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : TrothgardtheMad Date : 06-28-04 08:31 PM From 2e, before 2.5... I joined a group of 3rd level players as a 1st level halfling thief/psionicist, Lyfor Hairyfoot. Lyfor was in essence a chicken, too scared to use his psionic powers to supplement his roguish abilities. But Lyfor had one defining psionic power that always put people on equal footing with himself, and that was Control Body. Our DM had a pet NPC, a 28th out-of-the-closet (meaning his true race wasn't known to us until a few adventures before this episode) drow elf. At that point, Lyfor had decided he really hated drow elves, and decided to mess with him. At the next available oppurtunity, Lyfor had used his signature psionic power on him, and decided to try and kick/punch (depending on whose version of the retelling you believe, and honestly it was so many years, no one is really certain which it exactly was) the drow right in the "Mommy/Daddy button". The table was stunned, only because my DM, peeved that he failed the Strength check or whatever that required him to become free, decided that with a running start my character was at a disadvantage to his ungodly AC and so the only way to hit him was on a nat 20. The die rolled down about halfway the 12 foot table, almost stopping right down the middle, where everyone held their breath until the poor blue die stopped rolling... revealing a nat 20! Lyfor dropped the drow elf like a sack of potatoes, and just kept on running, because everyone on the group was dependant on this pet DM char and no one was going to stand for the runt of the game dropping their uber-high level secret weapon. Lyfor just kept on running, off into obscurity and into legend of the only character to have "gotten away with kicking the DM's pet NPC squaw and never stayed to find out what would happen..." (I was just sick of the DM using this uber char, only because the char was always the star of ANYTHING we did, we were always "that group of misfits" that followed the dark elf everywhere, getting into more trouble, and being saved via D(ark) elf es Machina. My problems also extended beyond the fact that even elves and dwarves were more than happy to let this dark elf that had travelled with us, under false pretenses, to live an untroubled life for any campaign he popped up in, all my characters (in further campaigns, never hearing of this good dark elf) lived short lives trying to dispatch this "evil" from the surface world.) Lyfor is still running, out in the world, never slowing down for that dark elf to catch him.
