You can download PDFs from RPG Now (http://www.rpgnow.com/) for a price. I've never tried it, but I believe some people from these message boards have. How does it work? Is it reliable?

Apart from that, there's always eBay.

I don't think there's any such thing as a "rare d20" book.  I'd be stunned if there was.

At any rate...

Your best bet for real, honest-to-god out of print AD&D books is - believe it or not - Amazon.  You can usually find 14th+ printings of AD&D core books for next to nothing ($5-$10 per book).  

The next stop, if you can't find what you're looking for there, is www.addall.com - use the Used Book Search and you should be well on your way.  Some of the stores tend to charge exhorbitant prices, though.

I've used both of the above methods myself. If I wanted the hardcopy I buy from amazon (forget ebay) and if It was something that I could print and bind myself I buy from rpgnow.com and I've never gotten that I wasn't happy with. :)

I have used Svgames.com for items to download and purchased some out of print stuff.

I have also used ebay for some rare items.  I purchased the Star Frontiers module Dark Side of the Moon for $1.  Can't beat that price!!! Thanks ebay!!!!!!
