MULUR’S GRAVE

DM BACKGROUND: The party have pissed off the Government of the Shires. In payback they are abducted by Halfling pirates and transported to Mulur’s Grave along with a wizard of Considerable power who will open a gate into which the Adventurer’s will be disposed of. Unfortunately for all, a previous victim of this prison has set a trap to destroy the next group who use it.

MULUR’S GRAVE

This coral island is distinctly different from the usual corals to be found in Fletcher Reef. It is made entirely of fossilized sea creatures surrounding a deep pool.

USING THE POOL

Once a Gate Spell is cast on the pool, it opens a wormhole linking a similar coral atoll pool located in the Hollow World. Unfortunately travel is one direction only.

EVENTS ON THE ATOLL

  1. ON THE CORAL: The Party are delivered to the Coral atoll and dragged from rowboat to the mouth of the hole. From the edge of the reef the Wizard known only to you as Tobin of Shireton casts a Gate and opens the way to the Hollow World.

  2. THE AMBUSH: After the Gate is opened a Golem takes them all by surprise when it grabs Tobin from behind and snaps him in half throwing his corpse into the pool. The Party and pirates find themselves surrounded by Golems as eight of them march up out of the water and attack everyone (PCs, Pirates, and Tobin of Shireton).

  3. ANY PORT IN A STORM? The Pirates immediately attack the Stone Golems but are quickly overwhelmed. The last surviving Pirate (Joacim Sturn) turns and flees directly into the Gate. Without weapons and equipment, the PCs have only one chance to survive. They must flee into the Gate and take their chances in the Hollow World.

BENEATH A RED SUN

Anyone travelling through the gate soon discovers that they are trapped in the Hollow World. The island on the Hollow World end isn’t exactly a good place to be. While it is located in the regions of the Merry Pirates, it isn’t some place ships stop. Without some means of survival or escape, the Adventurers will soon go hungry; fortunately Tobin’s corpse has a small carved wooden boat (The Desperate) concealed in a pocket that can be enlarged to a rowboat by speaking the phrase “Away the Desperate”.

This looks like an interesting way to get to the Hollow World.  Out of curiosity, how do you intend the party to figure out how to get off the island (specifically, figure out the command word)?  This might be a good spot for a skill challenge...

Also, I just want to say that I really like the idea of the Hollow World being used as a prison/oubliette once the surface world becomes aware of its presence.  (My vague recollection, however, is that the World-Shield is intended to prevent portals/teleportation in/out, as well as divination far enough below the surface to be aware that it exists.  Would this be a concern?)

I guess this one must be wished permanent by an immortal or Artefact...Given the Age of the Coral growth around it...it may yet turn out to be the top of a Nithian Pyramid or sunken Carnifex Temple. Makes you wonder what else is down there on the Sea Floor under the Coral.
