I thought it might be a good resource for the OOP boards if we had a sticky thread addressing that question, so I PMed WizO_Catoblepas about it. This is the reply I got. WizO_Catoblepas wrote on 06-29-04 05:05 AM: I didn't have a problem with it but just wanted to run it by Paradox. Well, I finally got a hold of him and he doesn't have a problem either. If you want to write it, that's fine and I can sticky it. If you want meto write it, that is fine as well. The only thing that we insist upon is that we don't have any references to websites that violate copyright laws. So, if you know of any good places to buy or learn about OOP gaming materials, please post to this thread. Just be sure you follow the guidelines indicated above. :edit: Also see WizO_Catoblepas' comments below for further posting guidelines and caveats. This thread is not intended as an endorsement or advertisement for any particular site or business, just OOP gamers sharing some info to help each other out. WotC, the moderators and other board members assume no liability for losses you may incur through dealings with businesses listed here. Please read the purchasing and return policy for any business before making a purchase. Also, please, don't turn this into a spam thread, and if we could keep off-topic or non-informational posts to a minimum, that would be good too. BTW - Thanks again Catoblepas and Paradox for allowing us to sticky the thread. Hopefully it will be a good resource for everyone here on the OOP boards. :edit: I'll start us off with some of the places I've dealt with before. Noble Knight Games (http://www.nobleknight.com/Default.asp) Titan Games (http://titangames.com/) For information on OOP publications, these sites are also good sources of information. The Acaeum (http://www.acaeum.com/) Pen & Paper (http://www.pen-paper.net/) Also, be sure to check out the stuff our other board members have for sale at the WotC Community Marketplace (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=266) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : VFults Date : 06-29-04 02:17 AM There is always that big auction place that starts with "e." I ran into a lucky buy there last month: 1E Players Handbook (good condition, demon-idol cover) 2 1E DMG (one in bad condition and one in good condition, both with efreeti cover) 1E Monster Manual (original cover, bad condition but useable) 1E Fiend Folio, MM2, Wilderness Survival Guide, and Unearthed Arcana (all in very good to excellent condition). All for $10 plus $8 shipping. Now our group has a set of spares at the table and won't have to rely on my books alone. Regards, V -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : WizO_Catoblepas Date : 06-29-04 08:11 AM A couple of items: 1) It would be good to suggest our own Wizards Community RPG marketplace on the boards. 2) It is okay to mention auction websites just as long as it is prefaced that all sales are final and there's no going back on a purchase. 3) I'd also suggest the local gaming stores as well. Many of them have a used gaming book rack where I've been able to get some OoP material. 4) If you could add that WotC is not liable for any of the sales routes suggested here, that would be great. Thanks and not a bad start. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : TheDungeonDelver Date : 06-29-04 10:57 AM Amazon.com No lie. Who else has those for sale? Two cautions with svgames and rpgnow: 1. They don't have everything on .pdf. Their collections are particularly spotty for B/X D&D and OD&D. They do not, for example, even have the original D&D box set or the 1981 Basic and Expert sets available. 2. The quality of the scans can be hit or miss. The Geomorphs the Colonel mentioned are first rate. Other scans are fuzzy or, even worse, missing key material. The Keep on the Borderlands, for example, is missing some key maps. Before downloading, I'd definitely check the reviews and response for .pdf at rpgnow.com to find out what others have said about the quality of the scan. (Rpgnow and svgames received the .pdf's from the same source, so they should be identical.) Noble Knight and Dragon's Trove have pix of the products, so you can be sure you know what you are getting. Hit Pointe and Dragon's Trove tend to be cheaper than Noble Knight though, which commonly sells items for only 1-2 dollars less than the original MSRP. Hit Pointe seems to have the largest selection of D&D novels though; I have purchased many an old series from there. Though I do not use them, Noble Knight has many old miniatures I sometimes contemplate buying, probably more than the other two sites I use. As you can see, my two favorites are www.dragonstrove.com and www.hitpointe.com , with www.nobleknight.com as a close second. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 23] Author : Rhuvein Date : 03-26-05 10:03 AM "Ebay is aggravating, but probably the place to find the best deals if you're patient". - RogueAttorney Hello all. Ebay definitely rules with regard to finding OOP for D&D. However, R.A. makes a good point . . . be patient. If you set a limit on how much you want to spend for say a dungeon module, stick to it and let other people outbid you if necessary, but continue to look for that module at the price that you want to pay. I have found mint to shrinkwraped OD&D & AD&D mods for incredibly low prices. Also, old core rulebooks are usually very cheap. :) Rhvuein. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 24] Author : ozbirthrightfan Date : 04-04-05 11:55 PM Thread Title : SVGAMES are dropping OOP D&D/AD&D pdf downloads I just noticed this when purchasing an OOP pdf from SVGAMES.com!! ***Downloadable Purchasers*** SVGames will be discontinuing it's Downloadable PDF Services for All TSR/D&D on April 10th, 2005. I'm glad people are still reading this thread and finding it useful. However, this thread is for posting links to sites that sell OOP gaming material, not for arranging sales or trades of material between board users. WotC provides a forum just for that purpose. There's a link to it in the first post of this thread. I'd like to ask people to refrain from posting anything other than links to other sites that sell OOP gaming products for two reasons... 1) Off topic comments will make it more difficult for new people, with questions about where to buy OOP products, to find what they're looking for in the thread; and 2) The thread was stickied by the moderators on the condition that it would follow certain guidelines. One of those was that it wouldn't be used for illicit trading of copyrighted material. The other was that it wouldn't become a replacement for the Marketplace forum. Thanks for your cooperation in keeping this thread a useful tool for OOP gamers. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 31] Author : realmaster Date : 11-28-05 01:18 PM I have found out the first and second edition PDF's that used to be on svgames are now on http://paizo.com/paizo -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 32] Author : Menethenes Date : 11-28-05 03:08 PM Thread Title : Waterdeep Boxed set... You are all violating those guidelines. I'm sure it's unintentional, but it needs to stop if this thread is going to remain a useful resource for the WotC OOP board community. Please note the following. 1 - Talking about illegal exchanges of copyrighted material (i.e. - sharing electronic copies of books) is completely prohibited by the Code of Conduct. and... 2 - Talking about trading, selling or buying out of print D&D products between individual board members should be done in the Marketplace forum ( there's a link in the first post of this thread) not here. Since several of these recent posts have violated board policy, the guidelines under which this sticky thread was created and are off topic for the thread I'm going to PM the appropriate mods and ask that the posts be edited or deleted in order to ensure that the thread can remain open and useful for other posters. Thanks to everyone else who is continuing to contribute to the thread in a useful and on-topic manner. They don't have a website thanks to a cyber squatter but they have an eBay site as well as a physical store. You can order via email from them. Don't let what they have listed on their eBay site make you think that's all they have. What they list on eBay is the proverbial tip of the iceberg for everything they carry. Best of all is that they'll take down your "want list" and search for the item(s) you're looking for. Yes, this is the same Crazy Egor's that is at GenCon every year. Anyways, here's the particulars: CRAZY EGOR'S ADVENTURE GAME WAREHOUSE WHAT WE DO: Crazy Egor's sells both new and old games. We are one of the top rare game dealers in the US. We have our warehouse store, an additional storage warehouse as well as separate convention stock that travels to shows. We may not always have everything on hand but we can, and have, found almost everything over time for our customers. Items are frequently available at different qualities and price levels. You can always specify, just 'playable', 'un-punched only', shrink wrapped only or any other requirements. We will do our best to obtain all items exactly to your specifications. EVERY product sold by Crazy Egor's is guaranteed complete. We even certify against manufacturer's defects. We check it, we sort things, and components are bagged. BUYING STUFF: You may place orders through e-mail, phone, regular mail, or in person. The store location is in Western New York State. Contact information is at the bottom of this file. Just because something is not currently available does not mean we do not have it, or cannot get it over time. WE FIND EVERYTHING Items NOT YET AVAILABLE are entered as pre-orders. When it arrives we will send a written quotation to arrange for release and to see if you need anything else. OUT-OF-STOCK: We work hard to insure that our information is accurate. Many times, an item listed as in print, that may even have been available to us the previous week, will suddenly disappear. Sometimes this is simply out of stock at our suppliers, sometimes out of stock at the manufacturer, sometimes out of print. We love this industry but its history of volatility is legend. If an item you order is temporarily out of stock, we will delay your order slightly while we try our top-level suppliers. We will ship as soon as we are able. Some of our major suppliers take several weeks to process even small orders. If we cannot ship within a reasonable amount of time we will contact you and keep hunting. We close orders when this happens and pass the back-order to our want list system. We do NOT automatically ship back-orders. The credit card information from a closed order is stored off site for your protection. We will send you a written quotation when we locate any back-ordered item. This will allow you to combine it to save shipping and to ensure you are still interested. Out of production items automatically will be forwarded to the Want List. HOW THE WANT LIST WORKS All want list requests are entered into a master database by the date requested. We purchase large private collections frequently. The want list, acts as a filter on these collections. Any item in a collection, that a customer had requested, will be offered to them BEFORE it goes out into 'open' stock for anyone else to buy. When we find an item you were looking for and you are at the top of the list, we set it aside and send you a written quotation. This item is being held just for you and no one else can purchase it until we hear from you. We always mail quotations since there is important information that needs to accompany our offers. We are able to send E-mail quotations by special request but we always follow them up with a written quotation in the mail to confirm the mailing address. When you get a quotation on an item you then have the OPTION to buy the item. If you turn the item down the next person will be offered the item and it will be deleted from your list. If you accept, payment terms must be set up as described in the quotation. We can extend the hold on an item if you contact us. If you wish to pass, or prefer a different option, (like getting a game at lesser price/condition) you will stay at the top of the list. We NEVER require that you purchase an item we find for you, only that you respond to our letter. If you fail to contact us we will send you a 'kill-card' and pass the item on to the next person. In fairness to others please contact us quickly when you do not want an item. READ THE LETTER WE SEND, CAREFULLY. If we request confirmation of your want list, your file is inactive UNTIL and UNLESS you respond (send back the confirmation letter or green card). Any time you receive a kill card; your want list will be made inactive until you respond to the confirmation request. We can mail you a copy of your 'want list' at any time. Making changes on our confirmation forms is the best way to update your want list and guarantees that you retain your original request date and place in line. Please be sure to forward us any change of address when it occurs so we do not lose you. Whenever an item is reprinted, all our want list customers on file automatically receive a quotation on the reprint. We try hard to search our entire inventory when we receive a want list request. There may be occasions where you find an item you requested in our convention stock. This is simply an oversight on our part since convention stock sometimes stays packed in the truck during the periods between conventions. There are also times when we have consigned items at conventions that we are not allowed to offer to our mail order customers. We always try to do our best for our customers but the frailty of being human sometimes gets in the way. We thank you for your understanding. It may take time to find things but WE ARE PERSISTENT. We will hunt for your items until we find them. SHIPPING OPTIONS: Crazy Egor's will ship anywhere on the planet. Shipping cost varies according to the order and how it is shipped. Most packages are shipped within our minimum flat rate of $5.75. You can order any quantity or even pay for items to be held for other things to conserve shipping cost. Shipping rates to other countries, APO, FPO and PO boxes are billed at our approximate actual cost, which is the postage we are charged, plus $2.00. We can quote the actual delivery cost before shipping if you prefer once we have the items in hand for accurate weight. If the customer does not specify, all domestic, APO and FPO are sent Priority Mail. Foreign packages are sent airmail or Global Priority. Surface mail is inexpensive but can take an inordinately long time to arrive. Six to twelve week deliveries are not unusual. The customer is responsible for paying whatever customs charges are applicable. We are required by law to state the value of the items as merchandise on the customs forms. We always list game books as 'books'; Games as 'card game' or 'board game'; and miniatures as 'metal figures'. Collector card games will always be listed as such, will require signature and will be insured. We have found by our experience that this speeds customs and eliminates problems. INFORMATION WE NEED FOR ORDERS AND WANT LIST REQUESTS: * Where to mail: Full name, Postal mailing address, Phone number. * Where to ship: If different than mailing address. * How to pay: [This is ONLY needed when we send you a quote] FOR EACH ITEM YOU DESIRE * Name of item: * Quantity: * Manufacturer (if known); * Stock or catalog number (optional) * Condition required: playable, un-punched, punched only, just playable, etc. This is particularly important if condition matters to you. We guarantee that every item we sell is complete. We have stood by this guarantee for more than 25 years. * Acceptable price range (optional): We will advise you if market prices make your option difficult or impossible to attain. We set prices solely on market conditions, collectible demand, rarity, value and condition of product. If a price cannot be achieved due to market conditions, we will advise you. PAYMENT OPTIONS: We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, checks, domestic and international postal money orders, regular money orders and even stamps for small balances (under $10.00). PUBLICATIONS: We do not publish catalogs of what we have on hand. Such things are seldom worthwhile since they are obsolete before they are printed. We can help you with information on what was produced and have many reference books and old catalogs. We can also provided certain product listings of out of print items (like a TSR master list, Traveller master list, GDW Listing, etc.) and references from Heroic Worlds and other publications at our cost. These can be particularly useful for determining 'want list' requests. I've dealt with him personally down at GenCon, and while he doesn't have everything, he seems to come quite close. Some of his prices can be quite high, but that is to be expected because some of his items are VERY rare and hard to get. I've never had any problems when dealing with him. Take care and have a great day.... ciao, john. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 46] Author : Yaeri Date : 07-13-07 11:20 AM Thread Title : Re: Where to find OOP books on the internet I have a question about buying pdf's at Paizo. I wanted to check to see if any one would like to trade for or buy the extras that I have. I have doubles of: Al-Qadim land of Fate box set The Ruins of Under Mountain box set Netheril: Empire of Magic box set Kara-Tur: Test of the Samurai adventure (shrink wrapped) Magic of Faerun (3e) Races of Faerun (3e) Plane Scape Campaign setting box set Plane Scape Monstrous Compendium appendix 2 Dark Sun Dragon Kings I am looking for a lot of out of print products for the Realms. I need all trail maps, the North box set, chult box set, waterdeep box set, and any first edition Realms products. I really did not think about how trading like this would work, but if you are interested in any of my stuff we can try to work something out.:) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 52] Author : Bob Loblaw Date : 11-11-07 11:44 AM Thread Title : Re: Where to find OOP books on the internet This is a local game store in Seattle that also ships around the country. They also carry rare/maybe OOP books for newer editions/games, such as the original Psionic's Handbook (not Expanded). Besides that and all the PDF download sites out there, I would have to agree with everyone one on what they picked. I would always check eBay first because there's always something there, but give others a try too. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 55] Author : grayface Date : 04-20-08 10:48 AM Thread Title : Re: Where to find OOP books on the internet I must recommend Amazon.com, you can find used stuff cheap there. I got a D&D Rules Cyclopedia for $25 (most other sites I visited were sold out, others/ebay wanted over $40 for it). Less-popular stuff is dirt cheap. You could hook yourself up with a complete set of core 3.0 materials for under $10 if you shopped around I bet. (I got PHB's for my whole group, they're so cheap, why not?) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:04 AM.
