Is the Fiend Folio completely different than the MM and MM2? I mean does it contain completely different monsters or are the monsters from MM and MM2 drawn from the Fiend Folio? Thanks! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Algolei Date : 07-24-04 01:31 PM They have completely different monsters. The three books complement one another. Get yourself one, it's quite good! The Fiend Folio was put together from monsters contributed in the UK. They run the gamut from really cool critters to things that make absolutely no sense and should have no place in the world. Books don't get no better'n that! :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : rogueattorney Date : 07-24-04 01:32 PM The monsters in the 1e Fiend Folio are completely different from those in MM and MM2. Many of the monsters are quite strange. However, there are also many of the absolute classic 1e monsters in it as well - the Drow and Llolth, the Githyanki and Githzerai, the Death Knight, the Slaads, Bullywugs, and the Son of Kyuss to name just a few. The Monster Manual is the best of the 1e monster books. If I had to choose between MM2 and FF for second place, I'd go with FF. Get the Fiend Folio and then, and only then, can you unleash the most hideous creature ever to grace the pages of a D&D product.......The Flumph :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : vader42xx Date : 07-24-04 02:50 PM I second the above...or fourth it. ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Regularguy Date : 07-24-04 11:20 PM Originally posted by Joel_d_d Yes! They just don't go into deep description of them in the book. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Varl Date : 07-27-04 12:23 AM Not to mention the Nilbog and the Disenchanter, each annoying well beyond the telling of it. Heh. The Disenchanter is a great creature imo. Nothing makes warriors turn to archers, crossbowmen, and mages faster and say, "This one is all yours." :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : The Colonel Date : 08-01-04 01:22 PM Sorry, I'm going to recommend svgames again - probably far cheaper than ebay. Hope I'm not leaving a trail of annoyed mods behind me here... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Urn's_Kitchen Date : 08-01-04 07:15 PM Yeah, but isn't that the place where you buy it and then you have to download it? I'd rather have a nice big book in front of me, although I guess practically speaking it doesn't matter. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : rogueattorney Date : 08-02-04 09:57 AM Originally posted by The Colonel Sorry, I'm going to recommend svgames again - probably far cheaper than ebay. Hope I'm not leaving a trail of annoyed mods behind me here... The FF tends to go for about $8 on ebay. Adding $4 for shipping (which might be a tad high depending where it's shipped to/from) that's $12. The ESD downloads at svgames and rpgnow are for between $4.75 and $5. Personally, I'd pay $7 - $8 more for a hardcopy (assuming it's in decent condition), but that's just my preference. I'd check my local used games and book stores before taking either option though. You never know when you'll find a deal. And if you don't want to deal with ebay, amazon.com is always good place to look for the old hardbacks.
