I'm not sure how to use it. It is an egg of reason. One of the psions was very interested in it (so I had to have it, of course), but I do not know its uses or its real value. Shame on you. 2) That's not a core item. Chances are your DM made it up. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : BigNastyMP Date : 07-29-04 02:37 PM 1) This is blatant metagaming. You should not look for out-of-character answers to in-character questions. Shame on you. Eh, this is kind of harsh. Relax Krel, she's just looking for some help like everyone else on these boards. 2) That's not a core item. Chances are your DM made it up. There is an Egg of Reason from the 1985 D&D book Unearthed Arcana. I have no idea what it does, or if is the same egg, but now you have a reference/starting point. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : starfire311 Date : 07-29-04 02:53 PM lol I dont think rosie is a she. I have enver heard of an egg od reason but if it has to deal with psionics and it was in unearthed arcana(1985) I would never let it out of sight... It could be one of the most broken items ever concieved. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : MrkGrismer Date : 07-29-04 03:40 PM Viva la first edition! Yep, give it to the cleric, and hope it actually is an egg of reason, and not the other one... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Rosie Goodbottom Date : 07-29-04 04:01 PM Hi Again, Just wanted to clarify, so no one thinks I'm evil. My DM rewards research done between gaming sessions. He chalks it up to dialouge between my character and the NPC's ('Hey does anyone know about this item? How's it work?'). We have a big group and this saves us time. Whether the information I gather is correct or not is another matter. The DM often changes even fairly common items enough that even the most well read are surprised (we discover 1000 gold pieces, then find at a trading village that gold is a worthless commodity here... survival gear is hot stuff though, etc.). It's just a local group that's been doing this for a few years, and that's just how we do things. So, I'm not stepping on any toes. Thanks for everyone who helped out... And as to whether I'm female or male... I'm female enough? Smile... Thanks, Rosie Goodbottom -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : MrkGrismer Date : 07-29-04 06:32 PM Interesting concept. Okay, hope there is no problem with this: [[Sorry -- even the 1985 Unearthed Arcana is still protected by copyright law, so you can't post the whole description here. (However, a one-sentence summary, in your own words, would be acceptable ... hint hint.) -- WizO the Hutt]] Note that this is first edition UA and also note that there are two other types of eggs that are most undesirable. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : MrkGrismer Date : 07-30-04 03:07 PM Hmm... Thought an excerp for comment would be okay. Okay, in my own words (and from memory, don't have the book in front of me): Basically, it's an egg coated in oil of timelessness. If you eat it you make a save vs. poison. If you fail you die. Else you have a chance of having your Int or Wis go up. 60% of the eggs were for Int, 40% for Wis. The chance for your stat to go up was equal to 100-(20-(2xStat)). In first edition stats were pretty well capped at 18, so if the egg would raise your stat above 18 it would only raise it by a tenth of a point. There were also two other eggs in 1st Ed UA, both were bad. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : The Colonel Date : 08-01-04 01:20 PM IIRC there is a certain company out there selling AD&D first edtion rulebooks as PDFs for $5 a throw. Find them @ www.svgames.com - and no, I'm not getting paid to say that, but did buy some stuff I've been after for years off them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Thailfi Date : 08-02-04 08:14 AM In first edition stats were pretty well capped at 18, so if the egg would raise your stat above 18 it would only raise it by a tenth of a point. I consider myself to have comprehensive knowledge of 1e rules and I have never heard of this rule. Perhaps you are referring to the rule that wishes could raise a score one point, but it took ten wishes to raise a score above 16. To the best of my knowledge there was no restriction on how high magic could raise a score unless the item specifically stated a restriction. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : MrkGrismer Date : 08-02-04 12:32 PM Yes, wishes raised scores a tenth of a point, and gauntlets of ogre strength and girdles gave a set strength instead of raising it. Only the optional unearthed arcana rules allowed for raising stats thru leveling up. That's what I meant by 'pretty well' capped. Sorry to have been vague. Stuff that raised stats other then strength above 18 were somewhat rare. ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
