Well, part of the definition of being an Out of Print edition is that by definition you're not getting much support. Let's face it - if you were, you would still be in print and such topics wouldn't be appropriate on this board. However, there is an even more important reason to refrain from the gripe and complaint threads. Look, it is within the guest's powers on this board whether we have a place to discuss Out of Print material on the WotC boards or not. If all this board becomes is one large gripefest about what has happened with the OoP editions, there's very little motivation to keep this board. WotC management will figure this out and just decide the nix the OoP board altogether. However, if this board remains a place to discuss the rules and concepts of older editions, then there may be a future for this board. The WizOs have already tried to get a conversion board and the powers that be said "no". Yeah, that's right, it's not coming. Thus, it isn't like this board is guaranteed to stay forever no matter what the guests do. Thus, if you like this board, let's just stay with dicussing rules and concepts of out of print editions. Personally, I love this board. I've been playing since 1980 and probably know the 1st edition rules better than the 3rd edition rules. I still want a place to go to if I want to discuss out of print editions. The ball is in your court. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : WizO_Catoblepas Date : 08-06-04 10:03 PM Ok, I wanted to add a post to say that I want to publically apologize for using the word "whine" in the original post. Really, that has a seriously negative connotation to the recipient and really shouldn't be used. Thus, if you felt slighted by the comment, I apologize. However, keep in mind that the major point of the post is still valid - if we don't keep the posts on a positive footing then there is a fear that the board may suffer the fates of other boards that kept on a negative footing. Really, I haven't been told outright that the board is going to be closed. However, everyone here has the power to influence the future of the board. If you want to keep the board and always wanted a make a difference, this is the time. The reason why I say this is that I've played D&D since 1980. I started with the Basic set and slowly went to 1st edition AD&D. Many a high school night was spent playing Dungeons and Dragons, and my fondest memories of the game are from then. This is of a time when Forgotten Realms was even a known concept. Thus, I really want to see the board stay. I want there to be a place on these boards where I can come to take about the game of my youth. I do try to come down and jump in a thread, but actually for my OoP days I'm older than Planescape, Dark Sun, Birthright, and old Forgotten Realm. At that time, I was in engineering school that left me little time to play the game. Thus, I really can't add to much to those subjects. However, I look forward to havin conversations on the board when a topic that I feel knowledgeable come around. However, from both sides, let's just keep the discussion positive. Of course we can be critical, but let's keep the criticism constructive. Thanks. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 08-06-04 11:03 PM Let me also take this opportunity to apologize as well. I had said things and implied things that shouldn't have been said or implied. Now, let's take a look at what's started all this. Briefly touching on past moderation issues, these boards were understaffed. I finally got it staffed, but not by the right people Now you've got Catoblepas and Sith, two WizOs I know will take care of problems if you guys would just hit the report a thread link. What started this current discussion was a thread that was closed because one person went a bit far. Past experience has taught us that if we don't address the issue quickly, bad things happen. Especially insulting the staff of the company on it's own message boards. So, Catoblepas asked me if I thought the thread should be closed, and I agreed. Hindsight being 20/20, it should have been re-opened after the thread and the offending post cleaned up a bit. That didn't happen. In part because things blew up in our faces before we could deal with that one post. I certainly don't hate OOP editions, or the people on this board. Let's not forget the good we've done for the board. Although we didn't get a conversion board, I did make a full hearted attempt to get one put up. If it were my personal playground, we would have already had it within a week it was suggested. Now, why didn't I post an announcement? I had a pretty good idea what the response would be. I saw that the board was being asked about, and was trying to find the best way to break the bad news. Rather than wait too long, I had Catoblepas mention it. And let's not forget the stickied "Where can I get OOP products?" thread. So, while we may stumble and foul up a bit and say stuipd things now and then, the WizOs and I DO care about this board and want to keep you guys around. But, we do need your help. Yes, I know that the previous WizO hadn't responded to threads reported, but you've got two of them now, so there's no reason any reported threads will be missed. You do have to understand that we're not on 24/7 and that some things may take time to get to, right? A post isn't going to get checked three seconds after you report it. While we can't have a conversion board, people who ask for them will be re-directed to the What's a DM to do? board, since that's a more proper place for them. If you guys want us to do a "No 3e discussion, but allow 3e mention" policy, you have to agree to not use the exemption to take pot shots at 3e. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
