It seems the results are quite gloomy: One empress (Alphatia); two princesses in Glantri (Belcadiz and Erewan. By the way: why only the elven principalities? Does it seem more appropriate for the "gentle" elves?); and the sherriffs of three shires. Oh, and the Queen of Undersea. That seems to be it. We have some women with political power, who are not rulers (Kokachin in Ethengar, Tanadaleyo and Porphyriel of the Shadow Elves) - and some that work behind the scenes (Queen Yrsa). If I recall correctly, even among the immortals there is no "major" female one. Who did I forget? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Spellweaver Date : 08-15-04 05:48 PM Thread Title : Re: Feminine Power at Mystara Originally posted by Lost Woodrake Following the discussions regarding Amazons, and Spellweaver's idea concerning Queen Yrsa - I would like to make a checklist of women holding political power in Mystara. If I recall correctly, even among the immortals there is no "major" female one. Who did I forget? Well, among the immortals, there is Hel - the Queen of the Underworld and one of the Hierarchs of Entrophy. She and Thanatos take turns ruling that sphere as I recall. If I remember correctly, Duke Stephan Karameikos' wife (forget her name) is in charge of a network of spies? (We've played some wonderful "In Her Majesty's Secret Service" adventures...) And in Glantri there are a lot of female nobles, more than in other nations AFAIK. But it is true, female rulers are scarce. But having a woman lead the biggest empire of them all - Alphatia - sort of makes up for that I think. Without wanting to sound prejudiced, I believe the Known World is based on real-world cultures that were dominated by males and that explains why only some of the demihuman cultures are lead by women - perhaps. I am eager to hear what others think. :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 08-15-04 05:51 PM Thread Title : Re: Feminine Power at Mystara Originally posted by Lost Woodrake One empress (Alphatia); two princesses in Glantri (Belcadiz and Erewan. I don't know- I think there are actually quite a few "women of influence" in Mystara. One out of Two emperors isn't bad. A lot of the nobles in Glantri (outside of the Princes/Princesses) are women. Stefan Karameikos' wife has considerable influence, and there are several female nobles among the Alphatian and Thyatian ruling class (several barons, and other minor nobles, and several queens in Alphatia). Also, at least one of the heads of each of the demihuman clans are female (the Rockhome dwarves have one or possibly two- if you count the leader of the Hurwarfs; I forget if its the woman who is the head or her husband; the elves have at least one- Brendian Erendyl, IIRC.) The head Seer of Yavdlom is a woman, and there is at least one female baron along the Savage Coast. I think there are some female Guildmistresses in Minrothad, and possibly some female guildmistresses in Darokin (don't think it's ever been stated outright). Some female humanoid leaders- one of whom is one of the most famous in all of 'noid history (Queen Udbala). There are also some influential Atruaghin females (Eelsha Spider's-Kiss). If I recall correctly, even among the immortals there is no "major" female one. Depends on how "major" you mean. If you mean ruling Hierarchs, well, at least up until WotI Hel is listed as the "ruling" Hierarch of Entropy. Outside of that, Vanya is very influential (Thyatis, many Savage Coast nations, and Heldann, to name her most prominent followings). Valerias- while her followings aren't given much of a writeup/power base in any published writings, she herself is quite well known. In Alphatia, Alphatia is a highly known and respected Immortal (patron of the whole place, after all). Petra is a pretty famous name and is one of the "Big Three" among Traladarans. Terra is big with the Ethengarians (as Yamuga). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Geogrere Ziacara Date : 08-16-04 06:05 AM Adriana Karameikos-Hyraksos is heir to the throne in Karameikos. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Geogrere Ziacara Date : 08-18-04 09:09 AM There's also Queen Senkha in Nithia in the Hollow World. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : havard Date : 08-18-04 11:20 AM And lets not forget Lady Arteris Penhaligon, ruler of the Penhaligon Dominion (Later Barony) in Karameikos. Also, Aleena Halaran of Threshold should be noted. IMC she is destined to eventually become the Primate of the Church of Karameikos. Thanks, everyone. I'm happy I've raised the issue. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 09:22 AM.
