My party elected to stop going against the Slave Lords after several deaths and several party members were captured. So now I need something else to send them on. :) I'm not too worried about getting them into the adventure, nor with any seemingly illogical consistencies that often crop up in the older modules. So far my choices are: Lost City of Tsojcanth Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun Ghost Tower of the Inverness Anyone with any playing / DMing experience in these who can give me some help deciding which to do first? Thanks! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : TheDungeonDelver Date : 08-15-04 11:52 PM Thread Title : Re: Can I get a recommendation? Thanks! It's "Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth"; but if you're looking for a good couplet of adventures, then Lost Caverns... and Forgotten Temple... are damn fine choices. They're both really, REALLY hard. The warning about foolish adventurers in the DMs notes in S4 are there for a reason! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Algolei Date : 08-16-04 12:12 AM Thread Title : Re: Can I get a recommendation? Originally posted by James McMurray My party elected to stop going against the Slave Lords after several deaths and several party members were captured. Wow. My players would just keep throwing character after character at something like that! After setting the building on fire and splitting into six or seven groups first, of course! What's it like, having players who even consider using logical? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : James McMurray Date : 08-16-04 01:44 AM A couple of TPKs has trained my players not to just charge in headlong. They're generally pretty good at making a plan when they have some foreknowledge of what's going on. After the second time a party member that was captured turned up to fight them they decided it wasn't a fluke. They'd been controlled by puppetteers before*, and knew that every time someone got captured the next fight was going to be even harder. They wnt back to the crime lord / governor that had hired them and recommended cordoning off thearea and not sending anyone back unless it was a huge force. Its generally pretty good having a group that thinks instead of blindly fighting. But then again, sometimes they have relapses and that usually leaves them one or two characters short of a TPK as they get themselves in over their heads. * obviously its a heavily modified Slavers series. :) TDD: Thanks for the idea. I know I can get them tied into one of them with the situation as it stands now. I should be able to either tie the two adventures together or find another reason for them to head into FToT after Tsojcanth. I think I'll probably save the Ghost Tower for a later time. I do want to run it though, as I really like throwing my players into crazy situations and seeing how they pull out of them. Usually they surprise me with something I hadn't thought of, which keeps me on my toes. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : diaglo Date : 08-16-04 10:19 AM if the players are worried about the Slavers. then they aren't ready for Lost Tamoachan... i mean the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. perhaps you want to start them with I2 Tomb of the Lizard King that sounds more up their alley right now. and then bleed them into uncovering another lost tomb in the jungle... say.... S1 Tomb of Horrors. ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : James McMurray Date : 08-16-04 10:39 AM If I'd used the Slavers without any modification I don't doubt that my party would have walked all over them. But I'm notorious for changing crap. In my tinkering I accidentally increased the power level too much. Hd they keot ressing (I never change anything after the party has encountered it) they would have all ended up as pawns to the Slavers or dead. I like that my players know when to run. If they find themselves n over their heads in LCoT they'll likely retreat and search the surrounding mountains some, looking for things that can help them, and gaining XP in the process. Re: S1: These players have already gone through the entire Return to the Tomb of Horrors. They did great and would have defeated Acererak in the clima except for two 1s being rolled on saves, and the archer getting beheaded by the Balor's vorpal sword the round before he would have destroyed the phylactery. :( As a side note, we play 3.5, so I get to have the pleasure of converting the adventure. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : James McMurray Date : 08-16-04 10:43 AM I should qualify that statement above. I have no doubt that my players would have walked all over them up until the point where they fight the well prepared and much higher level Slave Lords in the finale of A3. At that point they likely would have lost a couple guys and fled. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : James McMurray Date : 08-18-04 08:43 PM Has anyone else ran these who can give some pointers? I've got the wilderness portion of Lost Caverns converted, and figure that should keep them busy for at least one session. Of course, with my luck they'll just walk straight to the cavers and leave me without anything converted. :O -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
