Does anyone know if you can get old--I'm talking ancient--Dragon Magazine stuff online? I'm looking for a Wandering Damage Matrix they put out back in the 80's. And also the pictures of the Deck of Many things they did. Any help is greatly appreciated. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Gandalf_Istari Date : 08-19-04 10:54 PM Thread Title : Re: Old Dragon Magazine Articles Online? I'm going to assume that all Dragon Magazine stuff is under copyright and thus not reproducable online or in any other form without WotC permission. So the answer to your question is most likely no. If you want to get your hands on a great product that covers the first 250 issues of Dragon, and which has even the earliest incarnations of that magazine, I'd suggest you look around for a copy of the Dragon Magazine Archive. Its a set of CD's that has every issue of Dragon from #1 to #250. Usually runs about 30-40 US dollars, and is well worth the money. I highly recommend it. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 08-20-04 02:00 AM Many of the retailers listed in this thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=267037) carry copies of the Dragon Magazine Archive if you're interested in buying one. Like Gandalf_Istari, I highly recommend it. It's a very nice quality product with a lot of really great information, stories, comics and just plain interesting stuff in it. One of my favorite things is looking back through some of the old issues and seeing advertisements for stuff looooong out of print that I couldn't afford when I was a kid and thinking "Wow! I'd completely forgotten about that. Wouldn't it be cool to finally own a copy of Skyrealms of Jorune or Bushido." Then I head off to eBay and spend WAY too much time and money trying to appease the 12 year old that still lives inside my head. :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : taloony Date : 08-20-04 10:12 AM Did the archive ever get some of those downloadable "updates" they promised us? I remember waiting to no avail when the cd-roms were first released. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : rogueattorney Date : 08-20-04 11:01 AM Originally posted by taloony Did the archive ever get some of those downloadable "updates" they promised us? I found the Deck of Many Things on the one rogueattorney listed. As for the CD archive, I'd run across several mentions of that when I tried to Google Dragon Magazine, it sounded like they'd be hard to find, but I'll definately be looking on Ebay and all. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Gandalf_Istari Date : 08-20-04 03:12 PM Originally posted by fanpythonmonty Thanks for the links! Just so you know, there are still new copies of the Dragon Archive out there. I know for example that www.svgames.com has it for sale http://store.yahoo.com/svgames-store/tsr11448.html for $39.00. I'm sure there are other sites that still sell this new. I'm not saying you have to buy it from svgames, just making the point that the Dragon Archive is out there on sites in a new condition so that you know you don't have to buy it used. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : fanpythonmonty Date : 08-20-04 04:22 PM I just tried SV Games and it is out of stock. :( I'll keep looking around though. I know it's out there, I'll just have some adventures finding it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Algolei Date : 08-20-04 11:49 PM Originally posted by Gandalf_Istari svgames has it for $39.00. Ye Gods!! I saw one a while ago in my local game store for $150 Cdn. (I laughed, I cried, I bought something else....) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Fethin Gentlespring Date : 08-21-04 03:30 AM Anyone know if there is a corresponding dungeon archive? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Gandalf_Istari Date : 08-21-04 04:51 AM Originally posted by Fethin Gentlespring Anyone know if there is a corresponding dungeon archive? As far as I know, there isn't. I sure wish there was one though. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Fethin Gentlespring Date : 08-21-04 11:42 AM I lost almost my whole dungeon collection in a fire, and the new dungeons suck badly imho. Some of the material is cool, but I miss the old ones that had 4-5 advens in them. the new ones have like 1-2 and then a bunch of crap. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 08-21-04 04:47 PM Originally posted by Fethin Gentlespring Anyone know if there is a corresponding dungeon archive? I inquired about this with WotC customer service in 2001 and the response was "We have no plans to ever produce a Dungeon archive similar to the Dragon Magazine Archive CD product." I believe there were licensing, copyright and reprint issues that came up after the production of the Dragon Archive that 1) caused the planned Dragon Archive support to dwindle; and 2) led them to believe that production of a similar product for Dungeon would be impossible or too expensive to be worthwhile. Even a plain vanilla, OCRed, text-only Dungeon Archive would be great, but it doesn't sound like that's even a remote possibility. :( -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : Fethin Gentlespring Date : 08-21-04 04:59 PM You know what that is? .............Junky -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 15] Author : Gandalf_Istari Date : 08-21-04 06:22 PM Originally posted by blackprinceofmuncie I inquired about this with WotC customer service in 2001 and the response was "We have no plans to ever produce a Dungeon archive similar to the Dragon Magazine Archive CD product." I'd love to get my hands on all of the pre-3e Dungeon mags in pdf format. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening anytime soon. Who owns the IP for Dungeon now anyways? EDIT: I think its Paizo, but not sure what kind of deal they have worked out with WotC. EDIT: Were there ever any hardcopy (bound hardcover/softcover) compilations of Dungeon? Something like Dungeon 1-20, 21-40, etc.? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 16] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 08-22-04 12:15 AM Originally posted by Gandalf_Istari The thing that compounds the problem is that Dungeon is not one of the products that has been released in pdf format for purchasable download, so its not like we can go to svgames or rpgnow and download Dungeon mags. Something like Dungeon 1-20, 21-40, etc.? There were at least two Dungeon adventure "collections" called "The Road to Danger" and "Dungeons of Despair". "The Road to Danger" contained 6 adventures (Grakhirt's Lair, Trouble at Grog's, The Stolen Power, The Matchmakers, Roarwater Caves and The Inheritance). "Dungeons of Despair" contained another 6 (Caermor, The Moor-Tomb Map, The Cauldron of Plenty, King Oleg's Dilemma, Encounter in the Wildwood and Masqueraider). These are the only two compilations I know of. Unfortunately, the same things that prevented a Dungeon CD Archive also prevents them selling .pdfs of old Dungeons. They cannot sell scanned copies, because the artwork in some advertisements was only paid for as a single print item, reprints would require paying those artists for reprinting their work. I've also gotten the impression from stuff I've heard around the board-o-verse that the contracts Dungeon used for the artwork and adventures didn't address reprint rights and there might be legal problems involved with releasing the adventures again. Fethin is right. It's junky! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 17] Author : taloony Date : 08-22-04 12:23 AM Originally posted by rogueattorney Here: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/ex20020218a Scroll down. R.A. Thanks, though I've heard about these ones. I thought they were supposed to be updating the archive with other issues of the mag., but I guess some of the above posts have explained why they wouldn't have done that. Originally posted by Fethin Gentlespring Anyone know if there is a corresponding dungeon archive? I'd really like this to happen. I've managed to get tons of mileage from my old issues of this mag. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 18] Author : Gandalf_Istari Date : 08-22-04 01:57 AM Originally posted by blackprinceofmuncie There were at least two Dungeon adventure "collections" called "The Road to Danger" and "Dungeons of Despair".
