They, however, seem to be too dazzled by all the shiney feats, and flashy prestige classes offered by v. 3.5. I am of the mind that there is beauty in simplicity and that games move much faster with fewer rule mechanics. Any ideas on how to convince them to relax, focus more on the complexity of the storyline and less on the complexity of the rules? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : shadowelf Date : 08-20-04 02:33 PM Thread Title : Re: Advice Originally posted by ludovico I am of the mind that there is beauty in simplicity and that games move much faster with fewer rule mechanics. I agree with you. The best way to be convinced of this is to try it and see. In the meantime: you could point out: that choosing one non-weapon proficiency (at level of INT, say) is worth a bucket of skill points spread over six or seven skills, none of which are then mastered. that a "fighter" can be any one of a dozen types without needing a prestige class to define it. And there's nothing to stop you adding a Feat system and letting them choose a few. Or if the player comes to you with an interesting character concept you can give them an "extraordinary ability" without needing a formalised system. you could show them the Weapon Mastery rules. Also let them see that many situations can be solved by role-playing and non-combat solutions. Or creative use of terrain, tactics, planning, rather than a few extra points of damage potential. I'm sure others here can think of lots more. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Algolei Date : 08-20-04 11:37 PM My players finally lost any desire to play 3.xE when the 6th-level Fighter of the group (50 hp, Con 16, AC 23, flat-footed-touch AC 10) was attacked by 6 stirges and killed in the first round. Since then, we've played 1st and 2nd edition. :D Two DMs; two campaigns. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : vader42xx Date : 08-21-04 06:22 PM Sure, if you're running the game then tell them that's what they're playing. ;) Other than that you can't really "convince" them to play one edition over the other anyway. If you want to be a nice guy then run one for a few months and then switch to another. That gives them a taste of both and maybe they'll come around to your way of thinking. If, on the other hand, they like 3e better then they're probably not going to enjoy your RC game as much anyway. :( -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
