Im not too sure... evil d20 rules....that's not very nice.....thats baiting that is.... j/k......sorta -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : The Vanguard Date : 08-21-04 01:47 AM What I mean if someone used any name or group mention in Top Secret\S.I. would that person get sued?, -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : havard Date : 08-21-04 06:48 AM Originally posted by The Vanguard What I mean if someone used any name or group mention in Top Secret\S.I. would that person get sued?, It's been a long time, but aren't most of the organizations used in TS\SI real world organizations? If using fictional organizations or names from the game, you should probably make a deal with WotC before trying to make some money off that yeah. Speaking of Top Secret stuff appearing in d20 modern, I'd love to see a list of old stuff that has been reincarnated under trhe various d20 games. I mean stuff from Top Secret, Boot Hill, Alternity, etc etc. Havard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : chatdemon Date : 08-21-04 04:47 PM Originally posted by havard It's been a long time, but aren't most of the organizations used in TS\SI real world organizations? Not in TS:SI, no. I can't recall the name of the 'good guys' offhand, but the badguys were a sort of worldwide criminal netwrk called WEB. These are definately TSR/WotC Intellectual Property and would require a license agreement to reuse in new product. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : The Vanguard Date : 08-21-04 05:42 PM So you can't use Orion or Orion foundation without paying off WOTC, -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : chatdemon Date : 08-22-04 01:47 AM Originally posted by The Vanguard So you can't use Orion or Orion foundation without paying off WOTC, Pretty much, unless your Orion Foundation has nothing in common with the one from TS:SI. If you have a group of stargazers or bow hunters called the Orion Foundation, you'd be OK for the most part. Add spies and espionage and put it in a RPG, you're asking for trouble without express written consent from WotC, which probably wont come cheap. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : The Vanguard Date : 08-22-04 05:14 PM No not an RPG but a fiction novel series, I want to create the next superspy series like James Bond. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Algolei Date : 08-23-04 05:13 AM Then you definitely would be making a derivative product based on the original material, and you would need to make an agreement with them. And it would certainly cost you a lot. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : The Vanguard Date : 08-23-04 07:20 AM Well you change around enough so I don't have to pay WOC royality rights, -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Algolei Date : 08-24-04 03:05 AM Yeah but you are deriving it from their Orion Foundation. To change it around enough, you have to drop that name. They could probably even take you to court over it if the names were similar ("Hercules Foundation", for instance) if your book contains other similarities besides that. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : The Vanguard Date : 08-24-04 04:43 AM The Orion Foundation and spy agency is based on Western Star signs, so all I have to use is a name meaning a group of stars. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : chatdemon Date : 08-24-04 10:48 AM It's my opinion that you'd be better off just starting from scratch, using things like TS:SI, James Bond and Mission Impossible as inspiration. Orion and WEB were cool in a gaming context, but as material for serious superspy fiction, they'd fall flat, IMO. They were a little to lighthearted, sugarcoated and, well, cheesy. The same goes for the Archer Foundation in AEG's Spycraft D20 game. Fun to use in a game, but a little too fun to use in serious fiction. YMMV. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 15] Author : chatdemon Date : 08-24-04 10:58 AM removed double post -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
