At our last gaming session the DM was hinting that my mage should start getting his own place. I was wondering if anyone knows any good books or websites that could help me in designing and detailing my tower. Or maybe if any one here has any advice about building a wizard tower and how to find books for a library etc. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Nifftin Date : 09-28-04 10:47 PM Thread Title : Good or Evil Well, are you a great and benevolent mage? Or are you the sinister practitioner of the arts? It depends on what your alignment for some of the advice. I.e. Good mage: Get's books from adventuring and picking them up from ancient castles and such. Evil Mage: Get's his literature from that nearby abbey... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : MysteryOfTime Date : 09-28-04 10:51 PM My Character is a CN Mage. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Taminier Amberdrel Date : 09-30-04 03:06 PM take over nightfang spire -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : MysteryOfTime Date : 09-30-04 05:29 PM hmm, I dont seem to know where that is. Is there any place that I can find a history on it. Our groups town base is in Phlan, on the shore of the Moon Sea. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Taminier Amberdrel Date : 09-30-04 07:24 PM Nightfang Spire is a module in the 3.0 system. I think it is for like level 10 characters or something like that. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : MordainThade Date : 10-02-04 07:16 AM College of Sorcery is a good addon that describes a ruin that was refurbished to become a "teaching grounds" again. It's generic, meaning you can easily throw it into the Realms (located in the Dragonspine Mountains would be convenient for you, as you're based in Phlan). The Castle Guide is recommended; it gives a nice bit of detail regarding construction, cost, and all kinds of variables of general building. Highly useful. For a library, it is possible to assemble one using the rules given in Player's Option: Spells & Magic. I would recommend shopping around in Silverymoon, Calimport, Waterdeep, and Skullport (under Waterdeep); stopping at Suzail, Zhentil Keep (if you want to risk it), Mulmaster (same), Hillsfar (same), or the biggest cities of the various lands would also suffice for general "book shopping". The biggest difficulty are rare books; these should come from the DM, and are usually only found in special circumstances. BTW, if you haven't been to the city of Elventree (on the south end of the Moonsea), go there and tell the DM that you're exploring the well... I can only assume that you have the Moonsea add-on already... Phlan would be well-suited for a "social mage"; building the tower in the city wouldn't be too bad of an idea. A good way to get into the good graces of the ruling council would be to volunteer to clear a sizable patch of the city of its less-than-desirable inhabitants in return for a construction crew and a bit of land to build your tower on. That way, you could be viewed as a keeper of the peace in the city, and your DM would have a few easily-accessed adventure hooks (this is still assuming that Phlan hasn't been entirely rebuilt in your campaign). Even if it has been, perhaps the city wouldn't mind you using Sorcerer's Isle (a bit north on the Stojanow River) as a base of operations, provided you prove your trustworthiness first (bad things happened in the past, you know). Stone could be brought in from the Dragonspines; plenty of workers are in the area, due to the devastation of Zhentil Keep, so finding a good construction crew shouldn't be too difficult. Remember to have plenty of secret doors (mapping the entire thing on graph paper is so helpful regarding detailwork). Hope I helped! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:16 AM.
