Perhaps someone can catch it. How many adventuring days would it take for a party to start after the giants in G1 and end up at Lolth's door step in the Abyss in Q1? I was never able to finish this adventure with my group. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : failhelm Date : 12-12-04 11:45 PM I just smacked one into left field. I was never able to finish this adventure with my group. 3-6 months? Depending upon party access to magical travel. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Gleepwurp Date : 12-26-04 01:43 AM How many adventuring days would it take for a party to start after the giants in G1 and end up at Lolth's door step in the Abyss in Q1? Sadly, my players got all of the way to Erelhei Cinlu where they really lost steam... then some "out of game" arguments among the players broke up that gaming group. As I recall it took weeks to go from D1 through d2 and on to d3. The players just wandered right through d1 as I recall and really had a tough time of it in d2. One player got assasinated by a kuo-toa with a garotte during a big battle at the shrine. After several fights with the Kuo Toa they negotiated safe passage --- the Kuo Toa wanted to send these enemies on to cause trouble for the drow. Then in d3 they were trying to disguise some of their elf members as drow with makeup and wigs -- they had met members of the resistance and were trying to infiltrate the noble houses... Unfortunately, we didn't get any further than that. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : diaglo Date : 12-27-04 11:35 AM depends on how much of the rules you use and how fast the PCs gain exp. it took my group 11 years in real life and 78 years in the campaign to complete. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : failhelm Date : 12-27-04 06:45 PM depends on how much of the rules you use and how fast the PCs gain exp. it took my group 11 years in real life and 78 years in the campaign to complete. did they wait for the giants to die of old age? 11 years, how is this possible? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Elendur Date : 12-27-04 09:45 PM I generally don't allow resting during a dungeon level, only between, so for the G series, I expect it to take 2 days each(3 for G3). There are teleporters between each G module, so I don't expect there to be more than a few days of time between each. It gets more complicated in the D series, but I don't expect more than a few weeks will be necessary. Since we play once or twice a month, I expect all of 2005 and some of 2006 to be devoted to this series. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : dndgameupdate1 Date : 12-29-04 07:25 AM did they wait for the giants to die of old age? 11 years, how is this possible? :D Anything is possible in D&D story time. :P Sometimes background stories take longer than that, I've had a law versus chaos storyline going for almost 10, and since the future has already been played out, I imagine we will be playing law vs chaos until we die, which for some of my fatter players might be in the next few years. ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : failhelm Date : 12-29-04 10:18 AM :D Anything is possible in D&D story time. :P Sometimes background stories take longer than that, I've had a law versus chaos storyline going for almost 10, and since the future has already been played out, I imagine we will be playing law vs chaos until we die, which for some of my fatter players might be in the next few years. ;) I think that my players would kill me. They don't mind slow, but not that slow. My last campaign went 2 years real time and 15 years game time - players hit avg of 13th level - of course we did heavy gaming, thus how we got through 15 years game time. I guess I prefer to run a campaign, and then run another one, I prefer a progressive campaign. Taking so long to run through a story line prevents me from moving on to the next one. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : diaglo Date : 12-29-04 12:31 PM the players were playing their characters as themselves. do you hope that you can end this life to start a new one??? stratch that.... sure some do... but when you are enjoying playing a character you can really get into him. plus you can play him, his heirs, his grandheirs, etc... we played 3-4hr/session; 5 sessions/week; 50weeks/year; for 10+ years. it took ~900hrs realtime of roleplay to gain 1 lvl on avg. and the 14 players in my campaign enjoyed it that way. the Giant series was part of a long term campaign. it included many, many homemade adventures as well as parts or whole cloth of the published ones too. and i know i wasn't the only referee to run such long lasting campaigns.. there are some out there approaching 30 years now. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : failhelm Date : 12-29-04 01:56 PM the players were playing their characters as themselves. do you hope that you can end this life to start a new one??? stratch that.... sure some do... but when you are enjoying playing a character you can really get into him. plus you can play him, his heirs, his grandheirs, etc... we played 3-4hr/session; 5 sessions/week; 50weeks/year; for 10+ years. it took ~900hrs realtime of roleplay to gain 1 lvl on avg. and the 14 players in my campaign enjoyed it that way. the Giant series was part of a long term campaign. it included many, many homemade adventures as well as parts or whole cloth of the published ones too. and i know i wasn't the only referee to run such long lasting campaigns.. there are some out there approaching 30 years now. 900 hrs = 1 level Wow, that's a lot of role-playing. Has a lot to do with the players I think, after all DMs are really there to entertain and tell a good story. I guess my players are just different, they prefer a strong mix of role-playing and roll-playing, which inevitbly lends to faster level gain. Plus we like to make characters and play them for a while and then make a new one, not just because the old ones are powerful, since I deal with that well, but they just want to do something different now. Still, that is a whole lot of role-playing. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:15 AM.
