We want to open a fan online gaming chat site, based on updated 3.5 D&D/d20 rules, with as much authencity as possible. So far, neither myself, nor any of my 30-odd crew have managed to get any kind of response from our letters. We need permission to use the graphics in particular, even if we have to pay for them. There's still heaps of people out there that love Al-Qadim. Isn't it time for a resurrection? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Torack Date : 02-05-05 03:42 AM My best bet says that you should contact WotC. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : melindak_dm Date : 02-05-05 11:13 AM Thread Title : Does anyone remember Al-Qadim? Thanks Torach, yes I have tried. I've written to their customer service department, and their licensing department, all to no avail. I've been told they're ignoring me, because we are not 'big' enough to warrant bothering with. I don't want to get sued for not asking permission to use their material, but it's not exactly coming easy. Mainly I just want to be able to use the Al-Qadim banner (with permission) as the title for the chat. The other concern I've discussed with the chat administrators is that, now that the books are out of print, there is no easy way for players to get basic information. I want to be able to post key AQ setting information on a yahoo group for players, with credit to their authors, if they'll let me. Considering there could be upward of 100 people playing on the chat, I'd like to get things as official as possible. It's not like we're making any money off it, and we could even be saving WotC a lot of work if they ever decide to update Al-Qadim to 3.5 officially. Nothing is being published for this world anymore, and for most people it is an old setting that has simply been swept under the carpet and forgotten about. There isn't even an Al-Qadim board on these forums! :P -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : GreyLord Date : 02-05-05 11:36 AM Hmm, WotC shouldn't be that hard to contact, my experiences with that end was always quick responses. If you have the money, perhaps a direct visit to their offices or a phone call to garner their attention if you cannot find the correct email address. Be aware that some of the email addresses that you are sending to recieve many emails a day and hence it is difficult to go through all of it probably. I'd suggest that you focus your email directly to the people who handle the out of print arena, in the area specifically concentrating on Al-Quadim. I'm not certain who it is so You're on your own to find out who does the OOP licensing for AQ. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : melindak_dm Date : 02-09-05 01:30 PM Thanks Greylord, I'm doing my best to track down who takes care of these OOP products. Maybe I will have to resort to a phone call...from Australia! I would have thought that posting on these boards, that someone in the know might be reading. Or maybe I'll have to resort to dubious tactics, like sending multiple emails all at once? Hmm, the things you have to do to get people's attention. It's really put a huge cloud over the whole project. Everyone I've met says that Al-Qadim was a fantastic setting. Why then, is it so hard to get people to help me with it? *sigh* -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : TrothgardtheMad Date : 02-13-05 08:57 PM Thread Title : Good luck I thought I'd offer a good luck, as I am currently running an Al-Qadim themed campaign currently. I've converted some of the material of some of the products I have as it fits my campaign world (as it stands it looks more like an Eberron/Al-Qadim hybrid). If you do get all the licensing, etc. I hope you make mention of it, as I would be willing to by a 3.x version of Al-Qadim to add more flavor to my desert campaign.
