Hey, I have been on here a while and only spoke out a few times when I had information on stuff people had questions about. Now I have a question of my own: What skill point system do I use for having 2nd Edition assassins? Are they the same as a thief as in 1st Edition? (My group, after years of playing good guys, decided to create evil and neutral character's, all of which are member's (by "request") of the local thieve's guild) One of them wants to play a Cleric/Assassin based on one of the religious cults in my game world. I know this is not a usual/legal class that other allow, but I am flexible and able to DM almost any situation and set of characters/classes. I am just looking for suggestions...thanks. ~Eshombrule -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : GreyLord Date : 02-06-05 08:53 PM Hey, I have been on here a while and only spoke out a few times when I had information on stuff people had questions about. ~Eshombrule For the core rules, they felt that an Assassin class had no place in D&D. The reasoned that if one so desired for assassins anyone could be an assassin as an assassin was just someone hired to do a specific murder/killing. Hence no assassination tables. There WAS a Kit from the Complete Theives Handbook that was the Assassin. If I recall (I prefer core and don't use the 2e supplements as most of them I thought were very Un D&D...for this old timer though so pay no mind) they still didn't have any assassination tables per se, but bonuses and penalties to certain skills. The other alternate was the Complete Ninja's Handbook, which I don't think had assassination tables either, but had some skills that could be comparable to an assassin. Finally, you can do what we did sometimes, which was found in the booklet on how to go from a 1e campaign to a 2e campaign which said that the grandfather clause could be used, aka, anything from 1e would hold sway over the rules introduced in 2e. In that light you could use the 1e Assassin. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Nifftin Date : 02-07-05 07:30 PM I too suggest you use the first ed. book for the assassin tables. Same thing goes with the monk class (the sec. ed. monk stinks, royally stinks). Since classes between the two editions are so close I use them in my campaign and a player in our group was a monk and it worked well. If I remember correctly the percentiles are pretty close (more in Hide in Shadows and M. Silently) but they have some other abilities that are very interesting. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Hiryu Date : 02-13-05 02:13 AM Personally, I am glad the Asssassin class got the axe. Mechanically, it just doesn't work as printed in 1e. Yes, yes, I know is Gygax's favorite class and all, but the abilities and mechanics tie way too awkwardly into the system. I don't think it doesn't warrant a class on itself, but it does need to be redone into something more workable. As for your actual question, you can use the 1st edition Assassin with 2ed rules with little to none modifications. Now, if what you mean is purchasable abilities like in Skills & Powers, then you'll have to recreate the class for it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : weasel fierce Date : 02-27-05 08:01 PM I agree that "assasin" as a class is a pretty dumb idea. Same with Barbarian. The assasination chart was sort of interesting, but it was rather awkwardly carried out EDIT: For an easy solution, just make the guy a cleric/thief. Simple and should do the trick. The Thief book has an assasin kit as well, I believe -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : rigon Date : 03-17-05 10:55 PM there is a 2e assassin and monk write up in the scarlet brotherhood supplement. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:15 AM.
