Thread Title : Designer and Artist Paul Jaquays

Paul Jaquays wrote, edited and did art for various Mystara products.  Among other thing, he wrote and did the interior art for M5 Talons of Night, edited PC2 Top Ballista, did cover and interior art for various issues of Dragon and Dungeon, and painted the cover art for the AD&D Karameikos and Glantri boxed sets.

I just discovered his website at http://www.jaquays.com.  It includes his full profile, and best of all it has some nice pages about his art.  There are some nice little comments, too.  For example, it seems that Joshuan, as featured on the cover of Joshuan's Almanac, was actually based on Jeff Grubb!

It was fun to see a full figure illustration of Joshuan! I wish they had gone with Jaquays' illustration for the cover of Red Steel. The one they used never really worked for me. Think we could ask him to finnish it? ;)

Check the credits of the campaign book, and you'll see it's by the man himself, Paul Jaquays.  Interesting that he didn't mention it on his site, though.

Not Mystara related, but relevant to the thread...

Two of the greatest adventure modules of all time, Dark Tower and Caverns of Thracia, were by Paul Jaquays.  They were produced by Judges Guild in about 1978.  Dark Tower was for 1e and Caverns of Thracia was for OD&D.  Anyone who has a chance, should definitely check them out.

Another great non-TSR product by Jaquays was a book on designing character backgrounds for fantasy campaigns (mainly D&D though written to be system-independant) called Heroes of Legend. It's long out of print but I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone who cares to look for it. I used to have a lot of players who absolutely swore by it, though I haven't actually used it for a while.

The book went through two editions, the second is a lot longer but doesn't actually seem to add that much so either should do. There are two other books in the "Central Casting" series of which this book was a part, Heroes Now! and Heroes of Tomorrow, for modern and SF games repsectively.
