Thread Title : I need help finding this apparently obscure monster entry...

Several years ago, I was going through some D&D or 1st Ed AD&D stuff when I came across a monster file I took a fancy to.  I'm pretty sure it was in an adventure, though it may have been in a supplement.

Anyway, the monsters in question were called "Shadowfolk" I think.  They were neutral in alignment, and essentially shadow versions of normal PC races IIRC.  They lived in some sort of shadow forest and had shadow weapons and shadow hunting dogs (again, IIRC).  At one point I thought they were Shadow Elves, but hunting down that file revealed that those were just mutant radioactive elves and not what I'm looking for.

Does anyone have an inkling about what I'm referring to?

Going by your description the closest I can come up with is the basic Shade in the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual II.

A quote from the description:

Any human or demihuman -...- can become a shade

The dogs you are referring to would probably be the Shadow Mastiff

Wasn't the shade undead, though?  These guys weren't undead, nor did they become what they were as I recall - they were a people of themselves.

Shadowfolk do sound familiar.  Might it have been in an issue of Dragon, or one of the Dungeon issues?  I seem to recall a Dungeon adventure involving a fortress on the plane of shadow inhabited by shadow folk.

It may have been a Dungeon adventure.  I want to say it was a seperate, official published adventure, but it was almost a decade ago that I saw it and I've slept at least once since then.

Wasn't Dungeon released in a searchable CD-Rom format?

Dragon was, but Dungeon wasn't.  From what I understand, after the problems with copyrights that they experienced with the Dragon CD, that pretty much put an end to subsequent CDs.

Aha!  The Dungeon adventure I'm thinking of was Twilight's Last Gleaming in Dungeon #35, but I can't find my copy to verify what's in it.

Anybody have theirs handy?

iirc there were several "Shadow" adventures.

I'm looking at Dragon magazine #213 and it has an article called The Demiplane of Shadow. It has rules for playing Shade pc's and adventuring in the demi-plane.

the shadowfolk were a poeple/monster race in the dragonlance campaign setting...i think
