If my reaction modifier is +2 due to high charisma and several wandering monsters encountered (most were neutral) were friendly or left my party alone, do I figure exp points into everything?....I'm ending my B4 campaign tonight...... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : snarfalupagus Date : 04-20-05 10:32 AM I couldn't tell you if it is for sure given per any books or not. I would say that should be DM discretion. (did I spell that right?) If the DM brought his/her "A" Game, and is keeping copius notes of what has transpired during the adventure, I could see giving a small bonus for that kind of thing, as long as it was roleplayed out, and not just assumed. That would be kind of like giving the fighter extra experience just because he had an 18 strength....wait...he would get a bonus...PR bonus. hmmmm... Now isn't this a pickle? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : TheDungeonDelver Date : 04-20-05 10:52 AM Is it given? Personally, I would treat it as the AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide suggests that "easy" encounters are treated - divide the potential XP by 1/2 or even drop it down to a quarter. I don't give full XP for a 10th-level party beating up a dozen kobolds, so I sure wouldn't give full XP for a party expending little to no effort to chat up some creature(s) and waltz by them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Elendur Date : 04-20-05 12:46 PM For the monsters that were neutral, and didn't really pose a threat(unless you picked a fight), I'd say no xp. For for hostile encounters that you diffused with your high charisma and witty banter, I'd say yes. Basically the reward fits the risk. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : weasel fierce Date : 04-25-05 04:20 AM I'd give some XP if: The encounter is a danger, which is overcome by interacting or good thinking The encounter is a RP based one, and the players do very well The characters get some sort of achievement or get closer to their goals, from the encounter. If its a pure reaction roll, and the critters just trudge off, No -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Hiryu Date : 04-25-05 04:41 AM I think you are pretty much the second person I've ever heard off, on or offline, that uses reaction rolls. I agree with the above posts, if it was all based on a die roll, then no. The characters don't deserve any experience for just sitting there. If, on the other hand, they manage to roleplay their way out of a fight with a hostile group, I usually award more experience than the kill would had awarded. Now, about the rules. As far as the books go, there are no experience awards for reaction rolls. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:15 AM.
