Basically, a question is given and when someone answers it, they give the next question. Be creative and use any of the products related to mystara; gazetteers, almanacs, creature crucibles, adventures, Known World, Savage Coast, Hollow World... I think you get the idea. Anyway, if this is something that you might find fun, give it a shot. I'll start with the first one. I come from the planes of the Immortals and I'm 30 feet tall. I was brought to Mystara by elves. I do not travel anymore; in fact, I have now set my roots in a lovely clearing surrounded by mahogany woods. Truth be told, I am not even alive, yet inside of me lies Immortality. WHAT am I? A cookie for the first one to answer! But remember, the person who answers must give the next question! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : lonewolf Date : 05-03-05 06:43 PM answer is easy: Tree of Life next question: Who am I? I live under the sea and send out my armies from there. Recently I found out that my mother is still alive and was mad about it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Hugin Date : 05-03-05 07:07 PM answer is easy: Tree of Life Ah, not so easy I think, for I am not alive. Some may wish that I were alive but I never have been. I cannot create offspring, however I can create things that are not alive. Furthermore, I am unique and although I appear familiar, there is no other like me on Mystara. Nice try lonewolf. Any other answers out there? The person who answers mine gets to do so without having to give a question. Lonewolf's is the current question. Whoever gets this one gives the next question! next question: Who am I? I live under the sea and send out my armies from there. Recently I found out that my mother is still alive and was mad about it. Hmmm... :thinks: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Joe Mason Date : 05-03-05 08:18 PM Ah, not so easy I think, for I am not alive. Furthermore, I am unique and although I appear familiar, there is no other like me on Mystara. I know what you're talking about, but I forget its name, so I'll use a spoiler tag. (Could look up the name, of course, but that's no fun!) It's the Minrothad wood elf Tree of Life analogue, which is an artifact with an Immortal bound inside, not a living thing. Uh, wood elf, right? You know what I mean - the ones that aren't water elves. My question: I once ate an elephant. Eat as much as me, and I'll give you power! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : lonewolf Date : 05-03-05 08:36 PM I once ate an elephant. Eat as much as me, and I'll give you power! I´ve got the same problem as you: I remember him but I dont remember the name: It´s that ogre immortal that ate an elephant to become one. However, my question is still unanswered! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Hugin Date : 05-03-05 10:11 PM I know what you're talking about, but I forget its name... You got it! I am The Carven Oak. Good idea with the spoiler tag. We should use that for the answers so that others can still try to figure things out for themselves. I´ve got the same problem as you: I remember him but I dont remember the name I'm in the same vote as you. I even looked for the name and still didn't find it! However, my question is still unanswered! Who am I? I live under the sea and send out my armies from there. Recently I found out that my mother is still alive and was mad about it. Would my name be Zandor "Emperor of Alphatia"? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Joe Mason Date : 05-03-05 10:22 PM I´ve got the same problem as you: I remember him but I dont remember the name: It´s that ogre immortal that ate an elephant to become one. However, my question is still unanswered! (EDIT twice: first removed the spoiler tag, then changed my mind and put it back.) Close, he's actually the troll and his name is Bagni Gullymaw. His shamans recharge a spell level for each HD of creature they eat, instead of needing rest. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Hugin Date : 05-03-05 10:27 PM Alright, next question. What is my name? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Joe Mason Date : 05-03-05 10:42 PM Alright, next question. I am a lone, black tower rising from murky waters. My upper sections are fit for a prince, my levels below the waters are fit for the damned, and I have a nightwing visit them both. What is my name? You are Glantri's Tower of Sighs. I was there when the first Trees of Life were given to the elves. I was there when the Dwarves fought for the Forges of Power. I was summoned to the first war of iron against bronze, And to the highest seat of human wizardy. My beginning was on Mystara, but my end was beyond the end of time. Nice guess, but no. It's a bit of a trick question: here's a hint. Only the "beginning in Mystara" actually takes place in Mystara. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : DM Date : 05-04-05 07:39 AM I'm at a loss, Joe, I must admit. Especially by the lines: "I was summoned to the first war of iron against bronze, And to the highest seat of human wizardry." It would seem it refers to SOMETHING and not to somebody, especially when it asks "What am I?"... am I on the right path? When you say "I was there" you mean "I was physically in that place" or "in that timeframe I existed"? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 05-04-05 07:53 AM I was there when the first Trees of Life were given to the elves. My beginning was on Mystara, but my end was beyond the end of time. What am I? I am the Oard race. Now I've got to come up with one? Hmmm... My grasp extends everywhere, yet my touch is barely noticed. I wait below, for the eons to be right. Few indeed are those who know my name- not my brethren far above, perhaps not even the Shadows. Note- if my answer isn't right, disregard this riddle. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : Spellweaver Date : 05-04-05 08:03 AM My grasp extends everywhere, yet my touch is barely noticed. I was thinking something like Barimoor or the shadow elf race but still that does not fit the bill completely... :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 15] Author : DM Date : 05-04-05 08:45 AM OH MY! It was THAT then! IT's obvious now! And all those references! Stupid Marco, great Andrew! ;) As for Andrew's riddle.. uhm.. I'd say Wastoure -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 16] Author : Joe Mason Date : 05-04-05 05:28 PM I am the Oard race. Close enough - you've got the right adventure, anyway! I was actually going for the Nexus, the time-linked room that transports the players between all the events. It's from CM6 - Where Chaos Reigns. Oh, and my guess for your riddle: the Chamber of the Spheres. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 17] Author : Hugin Date : 05-04-05 06:18 PM funny thread you started Hugin, my compliments : this will definitely help us reaching the RL boards :) Thanks DM. I'm glad people are having fun with it (I am!). I wasn't sure if anybody would like this type of thing or not but I had to try it. Oh, and the extra posting to catch RL DID cross my mind as an added incentive. :evillaugh As something else to consider when answering (or added by the person who posed the riddle after it is answered), it might be nice to mention the product that tells about what the riddle refers to. I have discovered rather quickly in this thread that I have not yet read or have forgotten things, and am learning more about Mystara. For instance, as far as I can remember, I have not read about the Oard race or Wastoure. I'd love to be able to read up on these new-to-me aspects of Mystara (if I have the book). [Why must I take something fun and turn it into an oppurtunity to learn? :teach:  ] As for Andrew's riddle... I'm stumpted! Can't wait to find out though; curiousity killed the cat... meow! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 18] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 05-04-05 08:50 PM Hmm... that's a tricky one. I was thinking something like Barimoor or the shadow elf race but still that does not fit the bill completely... Your first guess (Barimoor) is the one I had in mind. I was surprised no one guessed the Burrowers, given the phrasing, and my pseudonymous predilection, though DM's guess wasn't far from my misdirection. :) For some further reading, per Hugin's suggestion, Barimoor is described in Gaz2: Emirates of Ylaruam, and I think there are a couple of references to him elsewhere. Wastoure (DM's guess) is a sorcerer from Antalia in the Hollow World who is in league with the Burrowers, and has come to the surface of Mystara in an effort to free them from their Immortal decreed imprisonment. He is first mentioned and detailed in DDA2: Legions of Thyatis, though he only fulfills a behind the scenes role in that module. The Oards are from the original Creature Catalog (green cover) and the adventure CM6: Where Chaos Reigns. They are a time-travelling race, similar to the Borg of Star Trek (though they preceded the Borg by many years). They are all cloned and outfitted with technology, and they seem to have a severe distaste for magic. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 19] Author : Hugin Date : 05-04-05 09:16 PM Thanks for the info, Cthulhudrew. I don't have DDA2 but I did put my players through DDA1 and it was actually very memorable (two characters lost a pinky finger each due to disiplinary actions!). I bought CM6 a while back at a used book store but never really sat down and had a good read through it. I'll have to do that. Well, Spellweaver, this means you're the next to pose a riddle for us! Btw, I forgot to give Joe his :cookie: ! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 20] Author : DM Date : 05-05-05 04:28 AM Well Andrew, I had the BUrrowers in mind too, but when you write "I wait" (singular) and "my brethren far above" it's clear we're talking about a singular person who has a kin in the surface world, something the Burrowers don't have. I would have said Barimoor, but since he had already been picked, I chose Wastoure, coz he seemed to fit better (the fact nobody knows him applies more to him than to Barimoor, who's known at least by his minions). Anyway, I'm eager to read the next riddle :) And btw, I wasn't off-track with Joe's riddle! I was thinking about SOMETHING and not somebody and indeed he was referring to something: the NEXUS (a time-space traveling device in the shape of a hut from CM6) :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 21] Author : Spellweaver Date : 05-05-05 04:38 AM Thread Title : A riddle for you! I'm not too good at making these things up, unfortunately. Let's see: I am an ancient hunger, my appetites appeased by a fragile stalemate. The slightest imbalance may set me free. What am I? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 31] Author : DM Date : 05-05-05 07:03 AM Well Andrew, for a person not good at making riddles up, I'd say you're faring very well! I think I got what you meant when you said "you're very close".... in that case, I can already anticipate I am not able to answer the riddle because I have not read the source.. I think it is some kind of creature inside a tapestry in one of the B- adventures... is there anything similar in the Caves of Chaos from B2 or in B3, Palace of the Silver Princess? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 38] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 05-06-05 03:40 AM Oh my oh my! I think I got what you meant when you said "you're very close".... in that case, I can already anticipate I am not able to answer the riddle because I have not read the source.. You're even closer now- but if you haven't read the source, that probably isn't too helpful. In the interests of keeping this thread going, though, I'm going to go ahead and give you your first guess, Zargon, because he is very close to the clue I originally gave. My intended answer was Kartoeba, the chaos beast that lives beneath the temple of Pflarr in the Lost Valley (module B10), but Zargon also comes close to the clues (ancient evil, the fragile stalemate would, in this case, refer to the various cults of the Lost Pyramid). So I think I'll work on my riddling skills and hand this one over to DM for the next riddle. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 39] Author : DM Date : 05-06-05 09:13 AM And indeed I would have never been able to guess Kartoeba since I never read B10 :p Just to appease my curiosity, what's the deal with Kartoeba's history? And here's my riddle: I can topple mountains and drain the seas I fear nothing but fear not me I have no homeland, but many call me home Within my head I can hear the gnomes. What am I ? (I think it's pretty easy) ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 40] Author : Kheldren Date : 05-06-05 09:25 AM That is Earthshaker from CM4? You are right - it was easy :) hmm, now I have to think of one - oops - will post in a few. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 41] Author : Kheldren Date : 05-06-05 09:38 AM Aargh - I really need reference works to come up with a decent question - so this one probably counts as very easy: "Good found me evil and gave me death. Who am I?" -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 42] Author : DM Date : 05-06-05 10:41 AM hehe Kheldren, you got the Earthshaker right! And your riddle is just too inviting for me not to solve it! You're talking about one of my favourite baddies! ;) I think I wrote on him more than the original author of the adventure! :p I am Landryn Teriak, aka the Shadowlord, killed by gold dragons, he was raised by a good wandering priest who believed him to be the victim of some evil dragon. Teriak magic jarred into the poor cleric's body and killed his soul to survive. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 43] Author : Spellweaver Date : 05-06-05 10:43 AM Aargh - I really need reference works to come up with a decent question - so this one probably counts as very easy: "Good found me evil and gave me death. I am going all :thinks: over this one. Unfortunately, the riddle's better than the actual answer. It's a bland adversary from a bland module. (Hint is spoilered - not so much cause I think people need a hint, as because I want to complain but doing so would be a hint.) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 52] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 05-06-05 06:03 PM Just to appease my curiosity, what's the deal with Kartoeba's history? He's this Cthulhianic looking creature that dwells beneath the Temple of Pflarr in the Lost Valley of the Hutaaka. IIRC, he was originally summoned forth by the Hutaaka to take care of the renegade Traldar that share the valley with them (the Traldar revolted against their overlords at one point, and there has been a war between the two races for centuries). Currently, Kartoeba is barely held in check by the priests of Pflarr in the temple. The introduction of a third faction into the valley (the PCs playing B10) seriously changes the dynamics of the war between the Traldar and Hutaaka, and likely ends up in the priests losing control of Kartoeba and the beast running amok. Kartoeba seems somewhat similar in motives and appearance (well, he's got tentacles, anyway) to Zargon, so I wouldn't be surprised if the two were somehow related- ideologically, if not physically. Probably servitors of similar Immortals. (My theory was that Pflarr had long abandoned the outer world Hutaaka, and so the priests of "Pflarr" had secretly turned to the worship of Ranivorus instead, and Kartoeba was his creature. The non-clergy caste of Hutaaka don't realize this, of course, and believe they still worship Pflarr. Just my theory, though.) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 53] Author : Hugin Date : 05-06-05 06:05 PM I probably wasn't right with my answer, but here's my contribution anyway. The tower of Sekhaba and the tower of Soth. It seems you guys have a field-day with this when I'm at work. It's cool though; using the spoiler tags lets me give them all a shot before curiousity gets the better of me! Thanks so much for getting into this thread everyone, the riddles are great! And learning tid-bits from modules I don't have is really tempting me to get them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 54] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 05-06-05 06:06 PM These are some good riddles- I'm absolutely stumped by both Thorf's and Joe's. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 55] Author : Spellweaver Date : 05-06-05 07:27 PM Well, assuming that I answered correctly, here is a new riddle from me: "I quail not at dragon, I turn not for troll, ride fearless through fell forest and o'er goblin knoll. My fang is quite deadly, a fiery blade, I wield nothing larger, of man but half made. At Everwake Way, my love shall return, For love of her memory, my heart ever burn". Again, easy if you know the source (which I stole a little from). Otherwise, perhaps not so easy ;) ;-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 56] Author : Spellweaver Date : 05-06-05 07:34 PM Thread Title : Picture of Kartoeba He's this Cthulhianic looking creature that dwells beneath the Temple of Pflarr in the Lost Valley of the Hutaaka. My fang is quite deadly, a fiery blade, I wield nothing larger, of man but half made. At Everwake Way, my love shall return, For love of her memory, my heart ever burn". Bingo! Points for Cthulhudrew! You can read more about Nob Nar on page 16-17 of the Player's Guide to the Five Shires under "Music of the Halflings". I can't recall where I found the picture of Kartoeba - somewhere on the internet, probably in a Clyde Caldwell gallery :) I saved it to my own harddisc a long time ago and uploaded it to ImageShack (great service by the way!) I was wracking my brains (and my books) looking for the answer. All right, another one, eh? Hmmm... The wracking continues... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 65] Author : Joe Mason Date : 05-08-05 07:40 PM All right, another one, eh? Hmm... I've lived in two worlds, but belong to neither whole; Above and below, has dwelt this lonesome soul; My appearance concealed; a treehouse my bower; 'Neath my cloak is secured a treasure of power. Who am I? (Don't read these rambling spoilers if you want to figure it out for myself, cause I'm about to list a bunch of guesses that didn't pan out.) Man, as soon as I read this I thought, "Aha! An Elf that came from the Sylvan Realm to Alfheim and still has a treasure from the old country!" But then I noticed the "above and below", so I thought, "Maybe an Alfheim outcast living with the Shadow Elves? Or vice versa?" But I couldn't think of any actual names, so I cheated and went through both Gazeteers' NPC sections but found nothing. Well, I did find someone who almost fits: Urgham, the orc owner of Reliable Heavy Hauling in GAZ5. He's from the Beastman home plane (two worlds), which being an orc may count as "below". Most orcs probably wear thick cloaks in Alfheim Town due to prejudice ("appearance concealed"). It doesn't definitely say he lives in a tree, but being in Alfheim, he might. He has one special object, but it's not exactly a "treasure of power" - it's the map to the old orc payroll. So every point almost fits, but except for "two worlds" none of them fit perfectly - so I bet he's not it after all. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 66] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 05-08-05 08:55 PM (Don't read these rambling spoilers if you want to figure it out for myself, cause I'm about to list a bunch of guesses that didn't pan out.) Who am I? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 120] Author : Spellweaver Date : 05-18-05 02:40 PM Then you must be Gul Hadda, the mad fakir of the Afridhi people. He is not naked because he has tattooed "clothing" all over his body, and he has committed many crimes in his past- that's the part that I had forgotten about. That was a tough one- if not for your clues and DM's setting things in the right direction, I'd have never guessed. Exactly right! Gul Hadda is mad but has 18 in intelligence. His many crimes have been pardoned because he is the supreme wizard of the Afridhi people. And he is naked but has tatooed clothes on his body to lessen the offence to other people. :D For those interested, this colourful character can be found in the adventure "Duchy of Ten", which takes PCs back to pre-Blackmoor. :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 121] Author : Culture20 Date : 05-18-05 07:14 PM Well, let's have a new riddle, then: I'm little, furry, cute and adventuresome. Nope, no Azcan stuff here. I'm sure I got this one: you're Aracne Prime from M5. The first line refers to substituting the Thothians' worship of Rathanos with her own mysticism, and the second one refers to her dwelling under the city of Aran in the Thothian Plateau. Third line refers to mastering the square web game and the last one to the retrieval of the Periapt of Pax. Am I right? :D Close enough. ;) The references are pretty much in place, but the personage I was thinking of is actually her servant, the vampire pharoah Ramenhotep XIII. I've actually done a writeup (which I should add a bit to one of these days) in relation to your last line of the riddle, though not entirely in the manner you suggest. It's at the Vaults (http:http://pandius.com/eternal.html). :) The bit that I was going to add is the idea that (spoiler because it relates to the answer to the riddle) "Farid" may actually have been, or been replaced by, an Entropic Immortal who sought to usurp Al-Kalim's role among his people, and thus gain himself an instant following. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 193] Author : Spellweaver Date : 07-04-05 03:23 AM You are Farid, companion and chronicler to Al-Kalim. No, my guy (another spoiler) is feels like a prisoner because although his is free of chains and walls and bars, he still cannot go where he has longed to go for decades... :evillaugh A note of warning: this is really a very minor detail I found somewhere, so I am not surprised, if you do not know him. You are correct, Hugin! :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 279] Author : Hugin Date : 04-18-06 12:33 PM OK, here's my riddle... Alone I stand 'midst the darkest beach on a barren ocean whose life I leech. Bring me your worthy, bring me your outcast. Come stay by my feet and never recall your past. Find rest near me when time does not matter or walk the sands free of life's chatter. I'll watch over you in stillness and silence but see me you will, from arrival and since. But here is the truth which is little known, a disaster by others and ruin is sown. A battle was fought by forces untold between those with no bodies and those with no soul Twisted and blighted over the years, I'm now the source of so many fears. And fear me you should, I'm neither kind nor sage, I can twist your mind with breath and rage. What am I? Sidenote: I don't think this riddle will need it, but in the interest of keeping things interesting and moving, I suggest that if a riddle hasn't been guessed in about a day, a clue should be given (as Spellweaver was doing). Hopefully this way we won't find ourselves stalled. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 280] Author : Gazza555 Date : 04-18-06 12:41 PM Now that's a proper riddle. ;) Regards Gary -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 281] Author : Spellweaver Date : 04-18-06 12:49 PM Now that's a proper riddle. ;) Regards Gary Aye, and even presented in a way that it can be used in the game for PCs! :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 282] Author : Hugin Date : 04-19-06 03:24 PM Thanks for the compliments! Mystara is my world; my home, it is here. Though up on my crown, another's drawn near. I can take you there if you know the way. There's no point in asking cause I never will say. My head can touch this place of white mist but I'm never to enter, not even assist. I am known to many, not lacking in fame. With both fear and reverence they utter my name! What am I? I am surprised that nobody has guessed it yet but I think I may have given it away now. If people are afraid to answer a riddle just because they think they are then obligated to provide one, don't worry about it. Just say that you don't want to give one and I'm sure someone else will gladly. He was a great king, who made peace with his neighbours and founded a city. He took in his lost brethren but also felt the betrayal of brothers long lost. And now for the real riddle: My first is his first plus one. My second is his sixth minus three My third is his third last My fourth is his third minus three My fifth is the first there is My sixth is his sixth plus two My seventh is his second plus three Who am I? (note: not who is he, but you'll have to figure that out along the way) :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 285] Author : Hugin Date : 04-19-06 04:54 PM Good guess Spellweaver! I've had a couple of guesses on the first part of the riddle (the king), but none of them work with the rest of the riddle. I'm stumped! Well, they are both very much from official sources. If you think about what the king accomplished, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 288] Author : Agathokles Date : 04-20-06 04:20 AM Who am I? Can someone explain it to me? I'm curious as a rakasta! It refers to the letters in their names, Celedryl and Doriath. In Baldurs Gate II the PCs are supposed to identify themselves as contacts by giving the proper name, which they have to figure out from another name and such a riddle. :) :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 292] Author : Hugin Date : 04-20-06 11:00 AM Owww, that's devious! Cool riddle! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 293] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 04-20-06 11:29 AM Darn- I figured it was something to do with the elves, and was actually going to go with Celedryl at one point, but I was thrown off by the "founded a city" comment; isn't Alfheim Town only a town (or is it a city, but with the name Alfheim Town?) I tried Mealiden, Ilsundal, Zendrolion. I even tried working backwards from "Alphaks" (seven lettters), to no avail. I thought about trying Celedryl, but discounted it before working through the combinations. :( -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 294] Author : Agathokles Date : 04-20-06 12:21 PM Wow, great job, Agathokles! I should have known to look in the Alfheim gaz. ;) Thanks. Actually, the riddle itself was quite easy for me -- it's similar to cryptographic techniques. Guessing the king was mostly matter of luck. I was somehow lead to consider Alfheimer kings because of other recent discussions on Alfheim. Then I remembered that Celedryl had something to do with the Shadow Elves and just tried it... Now, let's see if you can get this one: Take everything out of Odin's hall, scramble what's left to find the king of old.
