Thus, they gain the benefits of both classes and may use both weaponry and spells. They may use magic armor and still act as Magic-Users. So what, exactly, is an Elf character permitted to do, and when? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : weasel fierce Date : 05-15-05 10:56 PM The way I read it, is that he can pick before each game to play that game either as a fighting man, using the attack values for such, or as a magic user, using the spell casting capabilities. What happens with hit points is anyones guess. In Holmes revision, it was changed to a multiclass kind of system, I believe. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Solaris Date : 05-15-05 11:05 PM In Holmes revision, it was changed to a multiclass kind of system, I believe. Yeah, Holmes has elves being simultaneous FIghting-Men and Magic-Users. That way makes much more sense to me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : caeruleus Date : 05-16-05 01:01 AM I asked Gary this very question at Dragonsfoot. Here's what he said: Heh... More water under the bridge :) Actually the booklet is quite clear in this regard. An elf can act as a Frighter and use armor, gain XPs in thwt class, or one can act as a Magic-User and likewise gain XPs. What isn't clear is the HD. When an advance in level is indicated, the elf gains one-half a HD whether the advance is in the Fighter or M-U class. Thus the elf is operating at a disadvantage, not an advantage, in regards HPs. Cheers, Gary Basically, you can only act as one of the classes at a time. You can act as a fighter for an adventure, in which case you use the fighter attack tables, you can use any weapon, etc, but you cannot cast spells. Or, for an adventure, you can cast spells, but you can only use daggers, you use the magic-user attack tables, etc. You gain XP for the class you're acting as for that adventure. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : weasel fierce Date : 05-16-05 01:10 AM so the intention is that the character keeps two XP totals. Interesting. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : diaglo Date : 05-16-05 10:54 AM so the intention is that the character keeps two XP totals. Interesting. yup. you can't cast spells in armor. if you are wearing armor you are acting as a fighting man. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:16 AM.
