My dad sold a 1E DMG on Ebay for $45 about seven years ago. Now that I've come to know D&D, I think he may have been severely ripped off. But, I'm not sure whether prices have gone up. Please, someone tell me what it was really worth at the time.

There's no way of knowing what it was worth seven years ago, but checking ebay now shows the 1e DMG's are selling for under $10, many under 5.  You have to add shipping to that of course.

There were millions of 1e DMG's printed, and their binding is of notoriously good quality.  They take a lickin's and keep on tickin' as the old commercial said.  Unless your dad's copy was of a really rare early printing, he probably got a remarkably good deal.  1e DMG's tend to go for about $10 on ebay now.

yeah, your dad made money unless he had the earliest printing.

they are worth about $5 - 10 .

Well according to the Acaeum, the 1e Fiend Folio best price is $9.00 and that is for Near Mint so that seems like a good deal as well.  On ebay they seem to be going for $10.

I've got a 1st ed. Deities and Demigods 144 pager...that creaks upon opening about 3 inches...it is mint! Wonder what I could get.....but I'll never sell it...

also 2 pristine 1st and 2nd Ed. Fiend Folios......barely open also....

If it's got 144 pages, then there is a good chance that it is the rare edition.  When I went back to check my book, it only had 126 pages. :(

At any rate, some crummy editions of this 144 page book have been selling for a good price at an online trading website.

i've seen some people pay $80 for one.

they aren't worth that. there were actually quite a few copies produced.

i've got several. i'd never pay more than $30 for one as a collector.

only b/c most people selling and buying have really no clue when it comes to auction sites.
