Is there any where I can find the original 1974 D&D game online? I would like to see how the rules differ from today, and which are similar. Just curious. Can these be downloaded from any website? Are they in .pdf format? Has the original game been re-printed - and is it available for sale? I am not a collector - so I do not want an original copy. I am just curious what the game was like back then. Could anyone help? Thanks!! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Elendur Date : 07-08-05 05:30 PM I've been looking for this myself. They never made it to pdf, and they are pretty hard to find on ebay. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : GreyLord Date : 07-08-05 07:42 PM There is one sure fire way, but it's circumstantial. If you can find a group in your area that still plays an original game...you could join the group and by default learn about the rules during that session. It might not be as insulated as reading it on your own, but you could learn a great amount by a few hours playing it, if you could be so fortunate as to find a group that still plays. Alternately you could go on a search for copies for sale in shops. However, most I've seen are plastic wrapped, in collectors plastic, and it's doubtful that the owner would let you thumb through it, but you never know. I think however that it would be easier to find a group, as I've had a harder time finding those books than finding groups still playing with the rules they own. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Elendur Date : 07-09-05 01:18 AM Hmm, well I've been playing for 25 years and I've never seen anyone with these books. Where are they holed up? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : diaglo Date : 07-09-05 04:10 AM Hmm, well I've been playing for 25 years and I've never seen anyone with these books. Where are they holed up? you need to kick over the right rocks. i've got multiple copies. ;) but i am a collector and a referee/player. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : rogueattorney Date : 07-09-05 02:39 PM You might get a few more useful answers if you were to ask around at a couple of the sites a bit more focussed on OD&D that this one is. I don't mean to be cryptic, but I don't want to get anyone into trouble with the copyright police either. And, if anyone from WotC were to happen to be listening in... Would it really kill you to make the original set available as a .pdf download? People would be willing to pay for it. As it is, getting illegal copies is pretty much their only choice. Link removed: By posting the rules, the site performs copyright infringement. Just download the .zip files linked as 1, 2, 3 in blue after the entry for "2002 Dungeon & Dragons 1974 (boxed set)(w' Dave Arneson)" -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : diaglo Date : 07-09-05 05:11 PM Well, since you've gone ahead and spilled the beans, :D It's best used with Acrobat Reader v.4 or v.5. R.A. of course, the blackmoor supplement is free and legal on Dave Arneson's site. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : WizO_Cat Date : 07-09-05 06:08 PM The only legal way that I know of to get the rules is to buy one of the OoP copies. Since leading a guest to a PDF version would violate copyright infringement, I'll close the thread at this time. As for the subject of requesting/petitioning that PDF versions of the OD&D material be made available, the best course of action would to contact customer service. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:16 AM.
