Well, another book has been published about Harry Potter and world-over people are going absolutely bananas. For a moment, when a few Harry Potter books were accidentally sold BEFORE the midnight-between-Friday-and-Saturday release deadline in Canada, the publishers and bookstores all over went nuts and increased security to a level matching the surroundings of the royal crown jewels  And of course in Denmark as well a few slightly nerdy (comming from a roleplayer like me that says a lot! ;) ) fans have formed the Danish Harry Potter Society at www.patronus.dk I visited their website out of curiosity and read a petition in defence of Professor Snape, whom someone called Accio 2005 apparently intend to charge with treason! (you can read about it here: http://www.accio.org.uk/snapestrial.shtml ) As I read on (and quietly had a good laugh) I couldn't help but wonder: "Where are the Harry Potters of Mystara?" Imagine, for a second, if J.K. Rowlings had written about a boy from Mystara (assuming that WotC would let her of course) what that would have meant for our game world? Already, the Potter books have sold millions of copies, three have been made into successful films and merchandise is on the shelves of stores everywhere. Toy compagnies are lined up to produce Harry Potter LEGO (from Denmark by the way) and millions of other things. Ah, if only Harry Potter had been a boy from the Glantrian Great School of Magic or even just a member of the Specularum Magicians' Guild... :weep: :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Spellweaver Date : 07-17-05 03:11 PM Thread Title : Doh! Oh my! I got so caught up feeling sorry for Mystara and its fans that I completely forgot why I posted in the first place  What I wanted to say was: I think it is a fun idea to have fans debate over the fates of their favourite characters and even have a trial for one of them. And I got to thinking that perhaps our little online community could fool around with the same idea. Imagine, for a minute, that the nice Baron Black Eagle von Hendriks has been caught by his cousin the duke. Why we could actually have a trial of our own here at the forum. Someone could play/write the role and words of the judge, others of the lawyers and yet others could be key witnesses for the defence or the prosecution etc. Hmm... perhaps I ought to ease down on the caffeine... It was just a thought anyway... :) :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Seer of Yhog Date : 07-18-05 08:41 AM Hmm... perhaps I ought to ease down on the caffeine... It was just a thought anyway... :) :-) Jesper Yes, it was - but remember that there is no such thing as "too much caffeine". Why, in contemplating such an unearthly concept, my mind is becoming...warped. Must...try...to...under...stand....*ungh* Yes...becoming clear now...too much caffeine means that - AAAAAAAAAGHHHHH!!!!!! :OMG! The very walls of reality are coming apart!! Four-dimensional objects are now visible to me!!! That Which Should Not Be Seen...the Other.... :coolcthul :ghosted: *drinks coffee* :whatsthis Whew! I almost went over the edge there. Better be careful, Jesper, as there are certain things that we would do well not to think about. Like "too much caffeine"...but I'm okay now. :twitch: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : NPC Dave Date : 07-18-05 02:58 PM Think of it this way, the whole premise for Harry Potter can be found in a couple of pages of GAZ3 Principalities of Glantri. If you or I had taken the premise and run with it, we might have pre-empted JK Rowling, made a fortune, and thrust an obscure campaign world into the hands of millions of kids. Maybe... On the other hand we would have to pay a lot of taxes, and we would have no time to actually play D&D, since we would be feverishly at work cranking out the next volume in the series. So you take the good with the bad. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Spellweaver Date : 07-18-05 05:10 PM So you take the good with the bad. IMC, the Master has conquered Karameikos and placed the Black Eagle on the throne as a puppet. The duke is fighting a guerrilla war against the Master's forces in Karameikos and the pcs are trying to defeat the Master in Hule. I haven't written anything for the liberation of Karameikos as of yet. --Ray. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : tjedge1 Date : 07-18-05 08:53 PM At one time I thought of writing a story about Mystara, but it would take a lot of time and I'm pretty sure Wizards wouldn't be interested. Unfortunately. Oh well the comic idea will be more fun and maybe it will amke Wizards think twice about not bringing at least some entertainment material back for mystara like a video game or something. No conversions or new rule books or anything though, just maybe novels and such. I'd submit in a heartbeat if they opened a Mystara line of novels. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Spellweaver Date : 07-19-05 06:41 AM I'd submit in a heartbeat if they opened a Mystara line of novels. And I am sure you are not the only one at this forum who feels like that :D :-) Jesper -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : havard Date : 07-19-05 02:56 PM In another forum, we were discussing the prospects of a Harry Potter type campaign. Someone argued that it would be much more interesting to play some of the adults (perhaps Harry's parents), and I came up with the idea of playing Wizard Teachers. They would have to do research, teach kids, fight evil and make sure the kids stay out of trouble. I figured this could work well for a Mystara campaign as well, either in the Great School in Glantri or the School of Magecraft in Karameikos. Has anyone done anything like this? Håvard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : tjedge1 Date : 07-21-05 07:41 AM I've never done this in a campaign, but it does sound very interesting. A little challenging to try and save the world while keeping your students safe and in the classroom. Sounds like fun to me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Cravensson Date : 07-26-05 02:07 PM And if you become confused during the adventure, don't worry... Master Terari will explain everything to you at the end. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : davidrpaige Date : 08-22-05 12:41 AM Thread Title : Potterish Glantri It's funny, I've used a bit of the Potter books to give a few touches to Glantri, for instance, the use of Wands. In our camp, Glanti wizards tend to use wands for their spell castings, while Alpatian wizards tend to use staffs. This was just to illustrate the philosophical differences between the wizard countries, among other differences. We even have some game mechanics that wizards can "imprint" their wands/staffs with spells, that way they no longer need to carry the material component as long as they have their wand/staff. There have been a few moments where a mighty wizard is humbled because some theif has stollen that wiz's wand. Unfortunately it was the PC wiz that was humbled. As an interesting reaction by the PCs, to keep themselves separated from being associated with either Glantri or Alphatia, the PC wizards are favoring Rods for their foci. I applaud them, the Rod is so under-used. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : tjedge1 Date : 08-22-05 06:33 PM That is quite an interesting idea. I'll have to keep that in mind for my own campaigns. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 09:30 AM.
