I was sitting around tonight, after the wife went to bed (we work different schedules), painting a few toy soldiers, and looking at my Moldvay D&D book, and it struck me.. why not play a quick game of solitaire D&D. Rolled up 5 characters, and put them through some rudimentary randomly rolled rooms, as per the rules for determining room contents, in the book. A mage, a fighter, a thief, a magic user and a dwarf. First expedition resulted in an encounter with a horde of kobolds, though after slaying 3, their morale broke, and they fled. 4 goblins refused to yield, in a lter room, and were hacked down. The 2nd edition encountered 4 wolves right off the bat, resulting in a cruel fate for the surprised thief and fighter. Retreating in haste, An elf and another fighter will join the party. Names will be assigned to anyone making it to level 2 :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : caeruleus Date : 08-26-05 04:15 PM Good stuff. Solo D&D can be fun. I recently did the solo thing with the Mentzer rules. I had a fighter make it to level... 4, I believe. He had a cleric retainer at one point, who was very handy when encountering undead. Too bad he died. The magic-user who later joined him didn't get past level 1 (he didn't die, I just haven't played it for a while now). I've also done a solo thing with d20 Modern... but I won't talk about that one here. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Penknight Date : 09-22-05 02:00 PM The closest I ever got to solo playing was Fighter's Challenge. Man, talk about a blast! A vampire, dragon, talking owl, and a few other surprises both foul and fair await the watchful and unwary. I am even in the middle of running it for a friend of mine that made a paladin with the the aspirations of becoming a Wyrmslayer. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Gellion Date : 10-01-05 04:04 PM I need to get around to doing that one day. It seems like it would be pretty fun. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 10-01-05 10:20 PM Nice. I had a couple of those "invisible ink" adventures. Sadly, one of them was poorly written.. (I got locked in a "loop" where apparently I couldn't continue the adventure.) And, just as sad the pen dried before I could reveal all the boxed text. Sigh. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 10-02-05 12:14 PM hahahah funny...which Moldvay book/rules? '81? starting X2 solo as I write this...have battlemat, figures, DM screen, map, dice, etc...since I have no one immediately to play w/ I am adapting the regular mods to solo play....it's a blast....I make up for revealed secrets by rolling to see if the party falls through a trap, etc.....it's crazy being an objective dm and player at same time........I try to be fair.... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:17 AM.
