Hi! Im curious if anyone ever played using the old Thunder Rift setting which was made for Classic D&D. I'd love to hear your experiences with it. I am working on some stuff for it over at the Mystara boards at this thread. Check it out! I used all the basic adventures set there as springboards for my own ideas. Also, I dropped Thunder Rift into my home campaign world, not Mystara, but kept most of the basic elements. It was a blast, did you have any specific questions? I think I have a PDF around somewhere of the basic work I did there... -DM Jeff -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : havard Date : 09-08-05 09:18 AM I ran an entire campaign set in the Thunder Rift back in late 2nd Edition days. What features/modules/adventure hooks did you find most interesting? What parts of Thunder Rift did your party concentrate on, if any? I'll send you a message with my email adress attached so you can send me that pdf if you want to share it :) Håvard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : DM_Jeff Date : 09-14-05 09:19 PM >>I'd love to see the stuff you've done on Thunder Rift! So would I! Seriously, I have a few old files, but nothing I was originally thinking of. I have a few jpegs of alternate maps and a little bit of homemade town data. >>What features/modules/adventure hooks did you find most interesting? Best bet is to describe how I used it. Thunder Rift, 32 pages at $6.95 was the single best value in a campaign setting in a long time. I took the basic info but knew I needed to expand Melinir, so I took the map and overall modle from the Glantri boxed set I nabbed at a GenCon auction for a few bucks. Not knowing TSR had adventures set IN Thunder Rift I started out with these horrible little things called "Pulp Dungeons"... (Google search "Pulp Dungeons" and you'll get the info). Oh, they were great for initially sparking ideas in an admitted burnt-out DM. I ran them all. They were written by ex TSR employees, the first to go before the whole thing came crumbling down. It was the precurser to Fast Forward if you can beleive that. Well, I took these basic modules and ran improvised stories with them. I didn't know 80% improv was that much fun, but we all ate it up. When I learned about the Thunder Rift adventures, I nabbed them too at an auction and ran them, highly modified as we were using AD&D Skills & Powers and they were written for basic D&D. The Knight of Newts, Sword & Shield, In the Phantom's Wake, Rage of the Rakasta, Assault on Raven's Ruin, and Quest for the Silver Sword. I ran every hokey one. The group loved them too. Hey, and these last named modules, if you are a D&D mini gamer too, each of those came with a full-size poster mat of the adventure area to scale, and fold-up figures. We concluded when the group left Thunder Rift to adventure in the Gates of Firestorm Peak as the finale. >>What parts of Thunder Rift did your party concentrate on, if any? Melinir, big time. They owned land in the city after a while (the city as written was way too small, which is why I used the poster map from Glantri). They support a museam and library, co-own one inn, and have a building they use when not out adventuring. The Black Knight's castle, too, from "Sword & Shield" became a hotspot once they reached an agreement with the fark one himself. A training ground for new knightly order. I never got a message with your email. If you do give it to me I'll send you my melinir PDF and the few remaining files I have on it. Great, great memories that. -DM Jeff -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : havard Date : 09-20-05 11:39 AM Melinir, big time. They owned land in the city after a while (the city as written was way too small, which is why I used the poster map from Glantri). They support a museam and library, co-own one inn, and have a building they use when not out adventuring. I was wondering about the size of the town too. I think the TR book says only 200 people live there, yet they keep referring to it as a city. It is strange for such a small village to have a stone wall around it too, isnt it? I figured more people lived there in the past, but that the Rift Wars and other dramatic events mentioned in the History of Thunder Rift had reduced the population dramatically. The Black Knight's castle, too, from "Sword & Shield" became a hotspot once they reached an agreement with the fark one himself. A training ground for new knightly order. Hmmm...I'm having some similar ideas myself it seems. Not sure what I'll be doing with the Black Knight, but I think a new Knightly Order is around the corner. I brought in Johauna Menhir from the Penhaligon Trilogy. She arrived in Thunder Rift just after the novels (if you've read them), and she is telling people about the ideals of Chivalry. I'm thinking the Black Knight won't like it. Though if he does have a sense of honor, he might appreciate it in a dark sense afterall.... More about this will be appearing in the Thuder Rift Project Thread over at the Mystara forum. I never got a message with your email. If you do give it to me I'll send you my melinir PDF and the few remaining files I have on it. I've sent you a couple of private messages. Now I just tried with an email. Hope that works better :) Håvard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : chi master Date : 10-16-05 07:22 AM Thread Title : Thunder rift thunder rift is a good/decent adventure, I think we still have a copy of the module, anyway we didn't any major troubles with it... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : havard Date : 10-17-05 06:47 AM thunder rift is a good/decent adventure, I think we still have a copy of the module, anyway we didn't any major troubles with it...
