Personally, I would have like it to be designed to allow playing before the arrival of the Amnians but it's clearly made to be used for campaigns taking place after that. But the bowed set supplies enough history to allow you (with a little more work) to set a campaign before contacts with Faerun. The most interesting thing to me was that there are some fundamental differences with traditional settings: -No elves or gnomes native to Maztica -Only rare Halfling villages in the jungle and even rarer tribes of desert dwarves. -Most of the racial diversity comes from the different ethnic groups of humans of Maztica who have stats adjustment almost as radical as traditional races. -Metal working is virtually unknown (bring spare metal objects!) -No traditional wizardry (except for newcomers) -Practitioners of Pluma (feather magic) and Hishna (claw magic) have more subtle spells than traditional wizards but stats closer to those of rogues. -Orcs, and other traditional beasties exist here only since very recently though there are new traditional Maztica monsters. -There are very large areas of basically wild lands to explore and it's more like real wild land than orc, ogre and troll infested hills. -There is a ball sport which is very important in the culture of the natives and full rules are supplied to play it with your characters. -Two cultures with hugely different technological levels coexist (One obviously mostly dominates the other…). I'm looking forward to take a party from Faerun there but I'm currently DMing a Planescape campaign so it'll likely be a while before I do it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Habronicus Date : 11-07-05 08:56 PM Regarding Maztica, it's a setting heavily based on the south american continent of our world, so Machu Pichu, Peru, the Aztecs and similar themes are prominent (you probably already know this). If you want to have such a setting combined with Greyhawk, I'd suggest you put it west of the Sea of Dust, maybe just between Zindia and the Celestial Imperium. In alternative, if you're willing to make a few adaptations and expand the Greyhawk setting to its limits, you may place Maztica in the western edge of Oerik (around the Red Kingdom and Tharquish Empire), or even in the "missing continent" of Oerth (the one there's no official map for). Personally, I wouldn't mix them, as Maztica seems to work well for the Forgotten Realms and would probably mess up a few things in Greyhawk, but that's just me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Darth_Azalin Date : 11-17-05 07:46 AM The Realms is where they put all the newer stuff and they never did do the second part of Greyhawk (Oerth) Realms Realms as we now it Maztica Kara-Tur Savage Coast/Baronies Al-qadim Horde Also if you wanted to put some of the flavor of Maztica in Greyhawk and didnt want to go desert (Sea of Dust) use the jungle thats the bottom of the map.. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : ZolDarklock Date : 12-10-05 01:39 AM Maztica is a forgotten realms land...and the only module worth playing is the "City of Gold", which can be placed in any world's desert that wants an american indian style land stuck someplace... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:18 AM.
