I'm hoping to pick one of these up, wanting some of the old NPC statistics (Elkhorn, Perelay, Ringlerun, Strongheart, Warduke, Zarak, Hawkler, and Zorgar to name a few). A couple hours of searching turned up nothing. I'm familiar with the XL1, but I haven't downloaded anything before (just started playing again recently). I don't want to miss out on the maps or anything significant. I'm leaning towards AC1, but I don't remember how detailed that is. If anyone is familiar with either, or better yet, both of these items, I'd appreciate some detailed information. Simply posting the NPC stats would also be nice. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Kheldren Date : 03-02-06 02:34 AM IIRC AC1 was just lists of statistics and very skimpy descriptions of the characters. If you want Warduke, Strongheart etc you need to go for XL1. As for posting the stats, technically that's posting copyrighted material and a big no-no. Sorry. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Evergreen_Aldaron Date : 03-02-06 08:19 AM Can't argue with Kheldren...he is right on the money. XL1 is the way to go. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Solaris Date : 03-04-06 02:20 PM AC1 does, indeed, have stats and skimpy descriptions. But XL1 just has the stats. Both have pictures. I'd say XL1 is the way to go because it's a reasonably good module in addition to having the information the original poster wants. But if he only wants the character information, then AC1 is more detailed. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Legendarius Date : 03-14-06 01:02 AM Just was looking at these the other day. I have both and I see no reason not to use both. As was stated Shady Dragon Inn is mostly just a list of NPCs of the various classes and levels along with a section on the "special" characters such as Strongheart and Warduke. It also has the layout of the Inn for miniature use and provides about a page or so of background on the Inn. You could run a couple of lower level adventures out of the Inn and whatever town you place it in to build them up before XL1. The XL1 module is a fun one to play and was relatively easy to convert to 3.x given the majority of the monsters are classic D&D monsters found in the Monster Manual. The hook as presented basically just sends the PCs off to find the heartstone but it would be easy to add in the special characters as supporting cast. Before you run it review the various humanoid tribes the PCs might encounter on their way, carefully review the main dungeon which is presented in a sort of isometric view, and develop the main villains in the dungeon from the ground up as 3.x characters that capture the spirit of the original but make the most of the new rules.
