After we killed the drow priestess that was fixing to sacrifice the princess we sent her back to the castle with her gaurds, then we saw a drow riding to this huge fortress type thing that was about a 1/2 day ride so we camped out during the night in the drow temple we just desicrated. We found magic +1 plate mail (I'm using it now) on the drow priestess and 3 sets of her robes which we might use for disguises. The next day just before we were about to leave the thief said "Hey I found a secret lever or something that leads into this cave. Well inside was a flametongue a, a wand of fireballs that nobody saw the wizard grab we just sort of saw him dive after a stick that the barbarian tossed over his shoulder as he was searching for gold or something. A pair of boots of elvenkind which the assasin saw and said mine, and some potions we don't know what they are yet. We finally make it to the fortress and along the way the egyptian cleric basically a dark skinned human(the lady playing her wanted to play an egyptian human a worship the egyptian god of the dead it wasn't osiris, or anubis some other god but i digress) and the elf assasin both put on the garbs and the cleric and the elf smear ash all over them to look like drow. My ranger said um yeah know none of us can even speak drow, but they said all they had to do was get them to open the gate then we could attack or something. So some how speaking in egyptian and then casting command on the hill giant at the gate they get the hill giant to open the gate because they think some drow and mercenaries have come to help or some crap. well the rogue and assasin sneak about and off 2 sleeping giants ya know coup de grace. then we kinda go around offing giants one to 2 at a time and the thief kept exploring. Well the Lady who played the cleric thought we were taking too long so she goes up to the door that the thieves said that alot of giants were behind opens it and walks in while were still in the main area the courtyard if you will. Well she some how manages to convince them that whe is a worshipper of llolth from egypt and the drow are attacking (this lady was a smooth talker and she kept rolling under her charisma so the dm allowed some of the BS she said) the giants. So what do all these giant clans that meet together for a treaty do, they go find the intruders of course. Well moving ahead she's still in there chewing the fat with the hill giant chief and wife we've got about 30 giants coming one after the other between the double specialized bastard sword weilding fighter with 18/74 str that had enlarge and strength cast on him so he has like a 25 str myself a double specialized longsword toting elven ranger with 18/24 str and a barbarian with a natural str of 19 modded up 22 with the spell strength strategically placed fireballs from the wizards wand of fireballs and healing potions, a cleric chanting and about 4 or 5 natural 20's that dropped a giant with on swing, we were able to kill 32 giants just in that room thats not including the 6 we killed b4 the preverbial poopy hit the fan. Now for the causalties the fighter died the thief died the npc thief died, the other ranger was unconsious. We asked the cleric what the hell happened and she told us and she said that she was even healing the giant children that got burned so it would look like she was telling the truth. The chief his wife and about 8 hill giant children (that got caught in a fireball as they opened the door and ran back towards their parents) went through some secret tunnel and escaped. She told us that they escaped cause of all the comotion but we should get back to town and get the people ressed because it was more important. Needless to say we all got a crap load of exp and are between 12,500 and like 13,750 exp for the party as a whole because of the bonus exp that some get for stats I was unfortunate I needed one more int for the 10% bonus. So now the ranger's, the fighter, and the wizard are lv4, the clerics the thief and assasin are lv 5, and the barbarian is lv 3. And we didn't even have time to look through all the bodies for treasure or look through the entire place because getting the people resurrected was more important. Damn that was an intense game. for reference the fighter had an ac of -2 I had an ac of -3 the barbarian had -1 I was doing d12+10 dmg with my long sword at a +6 to hit +1 sword,+1 elf, +1 str, +3 double specialization. the fighter was doing some hellashish dmg because of the spells all in all it was like +7 to hit and 2d8 +13 dmg with a bastardsword the barbarian had like 1d12+9 or something and like +5 to hit I think they fudged some of the rules for the spells but all my kills were legit at a d12+10 and double specialization and rolling pretty good I was kicking some butt. Needless to say I was also one of the only fighters to live because I was picking them off one by one not geting in the middle of 3 or 4. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : realmaster Date : 03-23-06 03:29 AM Thanks for sharing, sounds like you are having a lot of fun. I have this run of modules and I am thinking of running them for my players. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Bael the Bard Date : 03-23-06 07:51 AM if you do run them have at least 5 or 6 players because 4 is too few and 9-10 is hell to play cause of fighting among each other. Also make sure someone takes one of the standard party roles. What I mean is have a wizard, a cleric, a thief and about 2-3 fighters that can include the subclasses like ranger and barbarian. Why I say this is well a party of mages will die at the goblin part at the very start of the module. a party of fighters will make it pretty far but will eventually sucumb to injuries and with no way to heal eventually die. Thiefs are useful from the beginning because of traps and scouting, and clerics are always useful for turning undead, healing people, getting divinations from there gods (IE you telling them where to go when they get lost) Fighters/Rangers/Barbarians well they um how do I put it, they're good at killing things with blunt or sharp objects, and they take up another role as the meat sheild and when they start finding magic armor they are everyone's best buddy. As for wizards there pretty weak up till about 4th lv then they can cast fireballs or when they find wands of powerful spells, then they are like gold to the party "protect the mage he can do that fireball thing". Also to give your guys more of a chance of survival use the unearthed arcana's rules for rolling stats because it gives tables for each class and it tells you how many d6's to roll for each stat. I've never played first ed before this module, but I like it and this module is pretty cool. My only problem is we have all this gold and treasure and no where to sell it and buy stuff. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Bael the Bard Date : 04-02-06 11:42 AM Thread Title : this is what happened last game its quite long Well yesterday's game was a bit interesting not so many giants but it was a good game. We went back to the giant fortress after resurrecting the thief and fighter. Well the thief found a secret passage around to the back and we went through into there. It opened into some fireplace into a large room. The thief immediately saw some weapons and armor on the wall and found a glowing yellow shield.(our dm kinda gives us hints its magical we just don't know what it is until we use it which could be good or bad depending on if its cursed or not) The thief shows it to one of the mages and they identify it as a +3 shield and the cleric proptly claims it. The assassin hears something behind a door and finds a bear well the barbarian and the fighter make short work of it. Then we hear a lot of barking/growling noises and 14 wolves led by a hill giant come from down a corridor my ranger went to investigate by himself. Well my character yells out hey theres a pack of wolves coming and a hill giant. Unbeknowngst to me the hill giant chieftain is coming towards me down from behind me becaus I was at a T interscection going down the long part to attack the wolves and giant. The fighter and barbarian come and start attacking the chieftain and the wizard says i'll take care of the wolves and lets a fireball from his wand go and kills 6 the wolves. The illusionist goes pfht and casts phantasmal force and makes it look like a pit of spikes. I see wolves running then fall to the ground with a yelp and start gushing blood. skipping ahead I kill the hill giant and the fighter and barbarian make short work of the king we get healed some and we start to go down a corridor and hear a loud hissing and growling noise and loud thumping of the ground coming from one doorway. We've already seen and heard a dragon because the prince and princess we saved had one as a mount. So we assumed the worst and went down a different hallway. Skipping along we find more gold and jewels than we can possible carry probably around 40,000 or so gold we leave the gold the thief carrys the 49 gems. We find 5 javelins of lightning we carry them we find 10 scrolls 5 the wizard can use 1 being lightning bolt and 5 the illusionist can use how convienent. We keep searching the floor for anything else, theres nothing else we find stairs we go down them. we go down stairs fight 2 hill giants and kill them, we open a door and 2 apes followed by a hillgiant come out they die by us. The thief finds what looks like a bunch of gems so he touches them and its a trap and a porticuliss opens and 4 manticores are there but they weren't attacking. The newly rolled character of the person that keeps playing female elf rangers that got made last game dies in the most horrificly funny way yet. the thief is backing up and saying I think that was a trap if anyone touches the gems they might attack. The other ranger says don't worry I'll kill them from down here with my bow they can't reach me yet. He shoots an arrow rolls a 20 and does 10 points to one of the manitcores, the manticores respond by shooting 6 tailspikes each at the ranger and all hit he's only got a 3 ac. Needless to say it did several hundred points of damage and now theres a puddle of goo where the ranger stood. Out of game we're laughing our butts off because this guy dies every game and the dm has to think of new ways to introduce these new characters. in game we're all like man that sucks poor newb or stoopid newb(yeah some of the players play too much online games) The illusionist makes some illusion of rats on the ground and the manticores start shooting their spikes at them only 2 kill each other doing so, then my ranger the fighter and the barbarian kill the manticores. We continue on and enter this big chamber and then Roooar thud the dragon comes out and we're all like this can't be real lets try to disbelieve it theres no way a dragon could fit down here. We all keep failing and the cleric finally says man this can't be real and casts dispel magic. The dragon explodes into a cloud of confetti then a door open and a bunch of goblins come out holding a long banister that says April Fools Got YA HA HA HA. The goblins walk through another door we shake our head and go down a different hallway. Now for the magic stuff we've found so far on this floor we found 2 +1 flametongue longswords(one of them is my new toy), a +3 spear, a jug with 4 cure potions, a +3 battleaxe, a quiver with 11 +2 arrows. We enter another hallway and a door opens 4 more hill giants, splat next we continue on after smiting the giants. We go down a different hallway into a narrow corridor the thief scouts a head and sees 3 stone giants runs back and tells us. The stone giants start down the narrow hall way and our party meets them with swords drawn the fighter and my ranger are at the front of the party attacking them head on and the mage is throwing fireballs. So its fighters in front mage with the thief and assasin and barbarian shooting arrows in the middle the cleric is in the back and the illusionist is at the very end of the hall. The mage casts a fireball gets them 1 stone giant throws 2 boulders one at the mage and one at the illusionist they both hit do crap loads of damage but they are still alive barely. The other stone giant throws 2 boulders and they both hit the assassin she dies poor mia. The mage lets another fireball loose drops one of the giants runs and then my ranger and the fighter finish the 2 stone giants. We enter the space where they came from and there were some beds and it was a dead end. So we decided to rest there and end our session cause one of the players was feeling sick, but most of us wanted to keep going for another 2 hours but decided to just calculate experience instead. We usually play from noon till 10pm but only twice a month. So we have 2 dead party members more gold and magic items then we know what to do with and we also found a scroll that teleports us to the realm of the frost giants how fun. We also learned one more thing that males playing female elf rangers have a considerablely higher chance of dying than any thing else. The guy left after he died halfway through the game and the other players after he was gone were making bets as to how he would die next game and we should nick name him kenny OMG they killed kenny you bastards. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Bael the Bard Date : 04-16-06 04:30 PM Its been a while but I'll tell you about yesterdays game it was quite fun. We decided to go back to town and get the assassin ressurected and bring back all the treasure to put it in the kings "Bank" for a lack of a better word. Of course we spent 25,000 of it on 25 potions of extra healing but the dm does potions slightly different he makes each potion have 2 doses so 2 doses of 3d8+3. The king ever so grateful that we saved his daughter from being sacrificed and killing close to 70 giants has given us an "artifact" a rod of ressurection with 44 charges useful but no artifact. We then get supplied up to go to where the ice giants dwell and the mage uses the black chain to form a figure 8 and we step inside and he says a couple words and we're in an ice cave. Blah blah blah 7 yettis they die the chief drops what appears to be an ice brand not sure we just know its a +3 sword thats unusually cold. We find a ring of protection +3 the mage keeps it, we find gems and furs. We kill 2 snow leopards, and about 17 ice giants and 9 hill giants and 9 stone giants. And we call it a day. The majority of the party is lv 5 and the thief and cleric are lv 6. We started 1.5 hrs late and we ended 1.5 hours early so not much happened in 7 hours. Hopefully something interesting will happen next game. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:16 AM.
