A fighter would get something like (and this isn't an exact quote cause I don't have the books right here) 1d+1 at 1st level. 2d at 2nd level and 3d+1 at 3d level. So just how the heck does that work? Are the cumulative so that the total hps for a 2nd level fighter is 3d+1 and a 3d level fighter is 6d+2? It would seem that way to me at first but then maybe he gets 1d+1 for each odd level and 1d for each even level. But, if you go further up in level he gets 4d for 4th level, 5d for 5th level (again maybe not these specific levels but at some point the pattern breaks up) can anyone out there cast a remove confusion spell on me? Thanks, -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : goblin_gronth Date : 03-31-06 07:48 PM Its been a long time since i played that... if i remember right they wrote it in a way that if you decide to make a 3rd lvl fighter to start, you would just look at the next column for hp's and see what you need to roll. So if you started off by making a 1st level you would just roll your 1hd (1d+1 when stated) for the next level to be added to your hp's -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : caeruleus Date : 04-03-06 02:16 PM As I understood it, at first level you roll 1d6 for hp. At second level you add 1 to your hp total. At third level you subtract the 1 you added at second level, then add another 1d6. And so on. As goblin_gronth said, what's listed at each level is the total HD you have at that level. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 04-03-06 03:43 PM It would seem that way to me at first but then maybe he gets 1d+1 for each odd level and 1d for each even level. This is correct. The tables list total HD at each level (not the amount gained at that level). So a 1st level Fighter (Fighting Man) would have 1d6HP, 2d6+1 at 2nd level, 3d6+1 at 3rd level and so on according to the table. This is the same format used in the AD&D PHB, the main difference being that, instead of using a larger die type for HP, the Fighter gets bonus HP to set him apart as a combat-oriented character type (since all characters get d6 HD). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : goblin_gronth Date : 04-03-06 05:02 PM This is correct. BPoM, just wrote it better. haha. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : RobertFisher Date : 04-07-06 06:09 PM Although, Gygax has said (on DF, I think) that they pretty quickly moved to 1d6/level for all classes. (That & the flat 1d6 for damage partially explain why Tenser could get away acting like a fighter so much.) That's how they did it in the campaign he ran last year using only the 3 original little booklets. Or you can just use the option from the Greyhawk supplement. As for what Men & Magic actually meant, I dunno. The explaination given above makes as much sense as anything I've read. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:16 AM.
