I have a pretty good collection of about 500 of em. I use them to show movement in battle for my son and his friends who are 13-14 years old. I was also wondering if anyone trades minis and where I would go to trade some of the rare ones I have for ones I am looking to aquire :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : gawain_viii Date : 04-13-06 07:13 AM Yes I do use mini's, however I don't collect them. That can get quite expensive on a government salary... Acutally Vern has a good collection that I've used before. I use in my own games, because I don't own any mini's, appropriate sized bottle-caps, slivers of wood-dowels, etc. with miniature character portraits glued to the tops of them. That can get quite expensive on a government salary... Yes, miniatures can be exceedingly expensive. My brother and I used to collect Citadel miniatures for Games Workshop games - mostly Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Epic/Space Marine, and Man O'War. The miniatures themselves are very nice, and some of their designers are really good, but they were (and still are) soooooo pricey. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Hugin Date : 04-13-06 10:57 AM I purchased quite a lot of the new plastic minis as well. It worked out to about 2$ CDN a mini which is far cheaper than any others out there. My only complaint (besides not really knowing exactly which ones you're going to get) is WotC's tendency to include 'strange' minis that I just don't have any use for. Of course, oftentimes we just use a mini that is similar to what we want, and they don't replace verbal descriptions. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : bleakcabal Date : 04-13-06 12:10 PM I find Mini's too pricy. I've always wanted to play Warhammer 40K but never did because of the price. For D&D, I use wooden and plastic spare board game pawns I bought from a local hobby shop. The players each have their colored wooden pawns and the cheaper plastic ones are for the bad guys. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Angry-Gibbon Date : 04-13-06 02:17 PM I use the minis and have found that it's not too expensive if you can persuade the rest of your gaming group to contribute a few packs every know and then. Some sets have been more useful than others although the only figures that I rarely find a use for are the Drow and Warforged. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Multizar Date : 04-13-06 06:46 PM I too find them to be expensive. I guess I am lucky, the local gaming shop in my hometown will trade me mini for mini and he sells individual ones for a reasonable price. Most of my minis are in shadowboxes and display shelves. I only take them down to play. All of my extras are in a big shoebox for my kids. Even my daughter who is 7 will ask to play with my minis :D I am not trying to collect all of them...just the ones that are relevant to Mystara. I am also looking for the dragons. We dont use the stat cards as we play OD&D rules. My son uses Regdar for his player. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Thorf Date : 04-13-06 09:23 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am starting to get the impression that Wizards of the Coast has applied trading card logic to miniature sales, with common, uncommon and rare figures. Is this right? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Hugin Date : 04-13-06 09:41 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am starting to get the impression that Wizards of the Coast has applied trading card logic to miniature sales, with common, uncommon and rare figures. Is this right? I would correct you, but you're not wrong! :D Each pack has 8 minis (or used to, I haven't bought any in the last year or so) and one was rare, while 2 or 3 (?) were uncommon. It makes sense for them to do this in a way because they are primarily for the miniature/card game. The fact that they work well for D&D is kind of a bonus 'dual-function' that WotC can use to promote them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : havard Date : 04-14-06 10:27 AM For _REAL_ Mystara minis you should search out the old Ral Partha D&D miniature boxed sets. IIRC there were two of them, one featuring heroes, including a Rakasta (and rules for playing under OD&D rules) and a second box with monsters. Also ZGG is making minis for Blackmoor, including Beastmen and Thouls.... Here's a thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=341603) where some information was discussed about this a while back. James Mishler originally found the website I link to that has some minis that could work for Mystara. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Thorf Date : 04-14-06 01:53 PM Wow, that's a really cool site Andrew! Very nice Eyptian-style miniatures. If I was still buying miniatures I would be severely tempted, but I think my attempts to finish my OD&D collection through Ebay are taking up enough of my hard-earned cash right now. ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 04-14-06 02:35 PM I notice they've got greens for a couple of other minis there- a Wendigo and an Ice-Witch of Hyperborea. Not sure what the Ice-Witch could be used for, but the Wendigos... hm. What Mystara creature might they be used for? Sasquatches? (Not very common, maybe there is something more common that could work.) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : frankthedm Date : 04-23-06 05:28 PM I buy singles off ebay, somebody nicknamed auggie or augest. As for using them, I have even snuck in a few StarWars minis into my mystara setting. http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/9353/wipzargoncleric125fu.jpg http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/9353/wipzargoncleric125fu.jpg But i use minis from all over, not just DDM. Here are some plastic toys that should work for Pseudonatural critters [hill giant & blue dragon] that will be residing in the lower levels of my adaption of B4: The lost city and the makings of a Zargon mini. http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/1707/eyeofzargonpsuedonaturalhillgi.th.jpg (http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/1707/eyeofzargonpsuedonaturalhillgi.jpg) http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/3876/furyofzargonpsuedonaturalblued.th.jpg (http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/3876/furyofzargonpsuedonaturalblued.jpg) http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/2990/zargonbitz3oj.th.jpg (http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/2990/zargonbitz3oj.jpg) http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/8066/bigzargon8yg.th.jpg (http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/8066/bigzargon8yg.jpg) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 09:23 AM.
