There aren't many people left who are really interested in discussing obsolete games. I can't even find a decent message board for discussing second edition. If you have any specific questions, ask them here. Otherwise, I expect you're stuck with the material you have there. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 04-14-06 03:04 PM Sadly, I think you're looking at it. There aren't many people left who are really interested in discussing obsolete games. I can't even find a decent message board for discussing second edition. If you have any specific questions, ask them here. Otherwise, I expect you're stuck with the material you have there. First, there's nothing "obsolete" about out-of-print versions of D&D. They're just as viable now as they were in the mid-80s (when, by the way, AD&D was vastly more popular than 3eD&D is today and sold better than WotC would ever dream of their products selling). Second, you're absolutely wrong about the number of people interested in and places to discuss OOP D&D. You might want to check out some of the following places.... http://knightsnknaves.proboards43.com/index.cgi (the best place on the internet for discussing original D&D and old school 1e AD&D) http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums (discussion forums for OD&D, Classic D&D, 1e, 2e and a few other OOP games - plus downloadable adventures, character sheets, etc. for use with OOP D&D on the main site.) http://www.planetadnd.com http://osu.proboards40.com http://doomsdaygames.proboards3.com/index.cgi http://grognardstavern.proboards29.com/index.cgi http://pub175.ezboard.com/bpiedpiperpublishing http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/greyhawk.html http://www.dragonlanceforums.com/forums Plus you'll find links to numerous other OOP D&D sites on the sites above either in the links section or in the signature lines of other posters. It's great that WotC maintains an OOP section to their forums but this is far far FAR from "it". :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : havard Date : 04-14-06 08:09 PM Some good links there! You can also buy pdfs of all of the classic D&D stuff from www.paizo.com. If you are interested in the classic D&D Known World setting, later named Mystara, also visit the Mystara forum on this board, and check out www.pandius.com for the best fan made resources for both Mystara and classic D&D My Blackmoor site (see signature) might also be of interest to you :) Håvard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Glgnfz Date : 04-15-06 01:06 AM Thread Title : gracias! cool! a lot of links to check out. ... as to official material: no problem - I've got it all. (that is... except for one thing: i can't find the box where the original rules from the boxed sets are - so i'm stuck with this one stupid book with all the rules in it - no idea how it's called in english. i hope i find those rule books as i love the two introductory adventures in the basic rules. the first one for a dm an one player and the second one for a dm and a party. i still remember how much (in gold pieces) this stupid rust monster cost me until i got the idea to buy "non-metal" armor... ) please tell a "poor old" man - what does "oop" stand for??? i can guess the first "o"... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : realmaster Date : 04-15-06 04:42 AM what does "oop" stand for??? Why do you think it is stupid? I think I know the intro adventures you are talking about though. If you cant find your boxes and still want them, www.paizo.com is probably the place to go. Good luck with tackling the Rust Monster this time around! ;) Håvard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Glgnfz Date : 04-15-06 08:00 AM Thread Title : Rules Cyclopedia that's it! it's okay - but i don't know where to find the right charts in it - in the basic-, expert-,... sets i knew exactly where i had to look for them. :weep: AND it doesn't have the intro adventures with bargle and aleena! and of course i know how to tackle the rustmonster - it's my daughter who is going to learn it the hard way. ... as to www.paizo.com - i hate giving my credit card number and stuff on the internet. i think i prefer checking the millions of huge boxes in my garage. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : havard Date : 04-15-06 10:12 AM that's it! it's okay - but i don't know where to find the right charts in it - in the basic-, expert-,... sets i knew exactly where i had to look for them. :weep: Yeah, I know. Familiarity is a big factor when fumbling around for tables etc. There are other advantages to the boxed set too, especially when introducing someone to the game. What I usually do is photocopy the tables I need and stick them into my home made screen. Putting in post-it notes to mark useful pages in the RC can be handy too. AND it doesn't have the intro adventures with bargle and aleena! and of course i know how to tackle the rustmonster - it's my daughter who is going to learn it the hard way. Yes, that one is a classic isnt it? If you visit Dragonsfoot, you'll notice Frank Mentzer, the author of the boxed sets often hangs out there, and the Aleena and Bargle story has been a popular topic... ... as to www.paizo.com - i hate giving my credit card number and stuff on the internet. i think i prefer checking the millions of huge boxes in my garage. Understandable. Though I'm very happy that all of these OOP books are made available. I have most of them as hard copies myself, but many were really hard to track down and I'm glad others won't have to do it the hard way. Håvard yes! i've seen it - and i'm quite impressed that one of the heroes of my past is still alive and still playing and writing d&d-stuff. the problem with dragonsfoot is that the admin hasn't sent me the second activation-email. it seems to be a nice forum, though! :D ... and there seems to be a "blackmoor-havard-user", too. ;) btw - the links to the d&d-rules on your homepage don't work. :weep: (and the same links are broken on every other site i could find.) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 04-16-06 04:17 PM the problem with dragonsfoot is that the admin hasn't sent me the second activation-email. it seems to be a nice forum, though! :D ... and there seems to be a "blackmoor-havard-user", too. ;) If I recall correctly, someone at Dragonsfoot mentioned that the site administrator will be incommunicado until Tuesday. Usually the turn around time would be much quicker. Hang in there, I'm sure he'll get to you ASAP. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : Glgnfz Date : 04-17-06 02:47 AM Thread Title : Thank you! so there is still hope... :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 15] Author : ozbirthrightfan Date : 04-17-06 07:30 PM so there is still hope... :D Yes. Thanks for letting me know! I'm guessing they were removed out of copyright reasons, so I don't think I could upload them on my site without getting into trouble. I'll go ahead and remove the link.
