The artwork (while still in the same style of 3e art) is more reminiscent of the older art we're familiar with--it isn't as ghastily distorted. It contains suggested feat progression (for those who can never decide which one feat out of the hundreds to choose) based on the character's class and play style. Each class is divided into three "typical" play styles with suggestions on character building. Most have offense, defense, and auxillary styles. For example, the cleric has the Defender, Destroyer, and Healer. The Fighter hasArcher, Defender, and Destroyer. It includes suggested spell loads for each casting class at each level (just like is in DotE-DM's Book.) It compiles nearly all of the classes from the dozens of other books. Core and Complete classes in one book--it get's my buck. It contains new classes (of course) including the knight (Order of the Griffon, anyone?) and the single best reason to buy the book.... *drumroll please* DUSKBLADE! The OD&D Elf, reborn. This is a base class which has equal emphasis on martial talents and arcane casting-to include casting in armor w/o sacrificing a feat-slot for 'still spell'. The spells are limited to 5th level, but the spells/day have higher limits. (A 20th level duskblade gets 10 1st-level spells). I didn't even finish reading the first paragraph of this class's description before I wet myself in utter joy. Okay, noone wanted to hear that, lol. Go take a look, it really is worth the money. (Except the wetting part. :P ) Finally, a decent fighter/wizard cross that isn't a watered down version of one combined with a crippled version of the other. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Traianus Decius Aureus Date : 06-01-06 09:20 AM I'll have to give it a look. I saw the preview of the Knight class and thought that it was a top-notch base class- it will definitely find its way into my recommended for Mystara list. The duskblade sounds very cool and I definitely want to read up on it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Hugin Date : 06-01-06 10:43 AM You've certainly piqued by interest for the PHB2. It sounds like a very useful book. (I wonder if I can convince one of my players to buy it :plotting: ) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : havard Date : 06-02-06 09:15 AM What caught my interest was actually the mention of more information about affiliations and stuff like that. How useful is that part? Does the compilation of classes from other sourcebooks mean that those of us who already own all of the Complete Books will get alot of pages with info we already have? Håvard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Gazza555 Date : 06-02-06 09:45 AM I've just bought the PHB II during my lunch hour. Does the compilation of classes from other sourcebooks mean that those of us who already own all of the Complete Books will get alot of pages with info we already have? Not from what I can see, its extra information that allows you to play variants on the classes. For example the hexblade can have a 'Dark Companion' (a sort of hex) instead of a familiar. What caught my interest was actually the mention of more information about affiliations and stuff like that. How useful is that part? Haven't looked at Affiliations yet - they get a whole chapter to themselves. There are two types, though, social and racial. Thinking on it they may be another way to repreent the Glantri Secret Crafts. I like the idea of Teamwork benefits. You build a up a team to acomplish various tasks. Each team has a team leader and team members. You need prereq's to qualify and get benefits (much like a feat). More on the book next week... As I read it ;) Regards Gary -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : vgeisz Date : 06-02-06 06:02 PM Thread Title : love my dm assistant bought it and i have been looking through it. it is great for new players because it gives them interesting ways to play the core classes. i have a brand new group of newbies and i am suggesting that they all look at the sections on the classes that they are playing. i give this book 4 thumbs up (im playing a Thri-kreen). If so they can easier be used in conversion work, as discussed elsewhere... Therefor i doubt it will end up on the srd. although i was surprised to see unearthed arcana being on there so i could end up being wrong.
