What should I get to get started ? Are there novels? If so, how many and what were their titles ? Thanks in advance -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : maddog Date : 08-04-06 10:11 AM What should I get to get started ? You'll get alot of different answers for that. Right now there aren't any "official" 35e released products but there are fan-made Classic, 2e and 3xe created material. Take a look at the Vaults of Pandius (http://www.pandius.com) for loads of fan created information. For official setting information, get the original gazetteer line in PDF from Paizo (http://www.paizo.com). I think they are selling them for $4 each. To play in the original classic rules (the gazs are written for them), find the Rules Cyclopedia by Aaron Allston. I found mine at Abebooks but the price is a little high right now. http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&an=Allston%2C+Aaron&y=11&tn=Rules+Cyclopedia&x=69 The RC can also be bought as a PDF from Paizo at the link above. --Ray. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Gazza555 Date : 08-04-06 10:19 AM Are there novels? Probably the best pieces of fiction for Mystara out there. So hell yea it cool!!! Look for the Gaz products. They really bring the world to life. Unfortunatly there are no current products in print. But alot of the flavor of Mystara influences 3.0 and 3.5, tho some here will say different. It can be very detailed and unique. It has a well built history but lot of room for DM touches. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : The_Stalker Date : 08-05-06 06:59 AM Long time DnD player, never played Mystara, seems like a good world to try out so... What should I get to get started ? It's a good question... I know there was a "newbie guide" planned at one point, because I was very peripherally associated with it (I joined the group but never did any work for it - yes, my bad... but I didn't work on it, because I had already done my own 'player's guide' for my own campaign, and anything I'd done would have been just cut and pasted from that or close to it). However, I don't know if this "newbie guide" was ever finished and released. Anyone know? Are there novels? If so, how many and what were their titles ? I think Gazza555's list is complete (not counting the Princess Ark series, which wasn't in a novelized form anyway), but I wouldn't call the books on that list particularly good. They're very average fantasy at best, sadly, at least IMHO... I think the best are "Son of Dawn" and "Dark Knight of Karameikos". However, they are both set after "Wrath of the Immortals" (AC 1010 and AC 1019 respectively), while all the classic gazetteers are set in the year AC 1000. The Princess Ark series is definitely better writing, if you ask me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : stanles Date : 08-05-06 07:00 AM It's a good question... I'd rather not think about all those projects I've promised people to work on, and which are still just lying about on my harddrive in very rough form....... I mean, I don't want to bring attention to I, too, have forg... Damn!! ;) EDIT: Casts "Programmed Amnesia" on self... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 09:31 AM.
