Forgive me if this has been brought up before. However, I've been curious about this passage in the description of the 9th level Wizard Spell Meteor Swarm: "The meteor missiles leave a fiery trail of sparks, and each bursts as a fireball."

The rest of the explanation for the spell is rather detailed regarding area and damage. However, the omission of how to deal with the fireballs is rather glaring. Has the been addressed anywhere else?

Uhm, what's the problem with the fireballs? They inflict the damage given by the spell description (there's no separate damage for the meteors themselves, as was the case in OD&D, IIRC).

Ah-- I see. I was reading the description as if the damage was for the individual spheres (4 or 8), and that in addition to the spheres launched by the spell, it also creats a "fiery trail" of fireballs, which I assumed to be like the 3rd level spell. That is, 4 (or 8) spheres plus an unspecified number of fireballs. But now I see how the "fiery trail" is just a descriptor and has no significant bearing on the spell.
