Think "Labrynth of Madness" or some such. (But you don't actually know the adventure.) Suppose that the XP limit is 3,500,000, and suppose that the 2x rule is in effect for racial limits. (That is, advancement is twice as expensive for races once they reach their limit.) Assume that each character gets a fair assortment of magic items. Finally, I have in mind the FR setting, but that's optional. If using another setting, state which. What party would you assemble? Why? Give the Class, Race, and (if you want to bother) level. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Agathokles Date : 09-29-06 05:14 AM Thread Title : Re: Hypothetical 2e Party Suppose you have to assemble a party of 6 adventurers to go through some difficult adventure. (That is, advancement is twice as expensive for races once they reach their limit.) Assume that each character gets a fair assortment of magic items. Finally, I have in mind the FR setting, but that's optional. If using another setting, state which. Let's start with a fairly setting-independent party: Dwarf Fighter Half-Elf Ranger Human Paladin Gnome Illusionist/Thief Human Cleric Human Druid This kind of party uses the strengths of each race, so it has few problems with the demihuman level cap. It should fare well in melee, since it has three warrior-types and two priests. Even the gnome illusionist/thief can handle some combat (expecially as a ranged fighter). It is less powerful in terms of magic -- no fireballs here. The party can handle well both undead and wilderness encounters, and has two potential diplomats. For a setting-dependent party, I'll put up a Mystara/Savage Coast group, using kits and local races: Rakasta (Jakar) Fighter (Savage) Dwarf Fighter (Defender of Kagyar) Tortle Cleric (Fighting Monk) Human Cleric (Inheritor) Lupin (Greater Beagle) Bard (Inheritor) Aranea (with "Human" form) Invoker (Swashbuckler) This is a party with a wide range of races, with powerful magic (the defender kit gives some clerical magic to the dwarf, while the Aranea Invoker, the two clerics and the bard give a full complement of standard magic). Having two Inheritors means that additional powers are available. While there is a lack of Rangers and Druids, the Savage Fighter and the Lupin bard give a good combination of wilderness abilities. The Swashbuckler Invoker is a powerful combat wizard, and being an Aranea gives him some extra tricks (including spider and demi-spider forms). The weak spot of this party is the lack of a thief, especially for the open lock and find traps skills. To address this issue, the Dwarf Defender could be replaced with a Dwarf Fighter/Thief with high Open Locks and Find/Remove Traps skills. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : FingerThePick Date : 09-29-06 11:14 AM Thread Title : Re: Hypothetical 2e Party In FR: Human Specialty Priest of Tempus Elven Archer 1/2 Elven Bard (Blade kit) 1/2 Elven Mage/Thief Human Specialty Priest of The Red Knight Human Wizard (Militant Wizard kit) in any other setting switch one of the priests ot a fighter and the other to a cleric -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : oralpain Date : 09-30-06 03:07 AM Thread Title : Re: Hypothetical 2e Party 3 wizards - any race 2 psionicists - human 1 fighter - human or dwarf -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Agathokles Date : 09-30-06 10:24 AM Thread Title : Re: Hypothetical 2e Party A Dark Sun party: Dwarf Gladiator Halfling Thief/Psionicist (Telepath) Human Wizard (Presever) Human Earth Cleric Mul Fighter/Psionicist (Psicometabolist) Thri-Kreen Druid (Air/Earth spirit)/Psionicist (Psicoporter) In Dark Sun, psionicists are very common, and defense against enemy Telepaths is needed -- however, psionicists are often better at enhancing existing abilities than working on their own, so in this party they are all multiclasses. The party covers all roles, and has a good potential even at very high levels. The weak spot, if any, is that the party will have a hard time negotiating with elf tribes. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:18 AM.
