From the Enworld forums: And while I'm dropping hints about campaign setting specific adventrues, fans of Mystara/The Known World and of Planescape will probably recognize some proper nouns in a couple of 2007's adventures as well... Cool. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 10-03-06 09:35 PM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? More info coming in: Pity it'll only be the nouns... Mystara is still my #1 world. I'll just have to scrounge the cash for that new DCC box set instead. :) I'd say wait and see... it'll be more than just nouns. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : MrFilthyIke Date : 10-04-06 01:41 PM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? w00t! :w00t: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : havard Date : 10-07-06 04:42 AM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? I think this is in referance to Savage Tide. I think the plan is to introduce monsters and minor "flavors" from mystara. Lets be honest, WOTC has no future plans for Mystara. Sadly, I believe you're right. :( While WotC has no plans to publish anything for Mystara now, that doesnt mean their policy can't change. Things that dont *seem* profitable today, could easily appear more profitable tomorrow. Whether a new version of Mystara would be a good thing is another matter. It would undoubtedly create more fractions within the community. We already have alot of those here (Classic, AD&D, No WotI, Gold Box etc etc). The lack of official material is also probably what keeps us this creative. OTOH, that might not last forever either. I think Paizo support might be even more interesting to us, as it gives us a focus for ideas, something to draw inspiration from, talk about etc. Savage Tide is one thing. If Bruce gets to write some more for Dragon, that would be awesome. An update on things: Not to be a threadjacker or anything, but fans of Mystara should take note of the upcoming Dungeon #142. Not only does it contain the first Savage Tide adventure to take place on the Isle of Dread, but also has a low-level adventrue that makes for a perfect lead-in for an old classic. Which old classic? Let's just say that the word "Zargon" might be appearing on this issue's cover... Hmm... return to the Lost City? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : havard Date : 10-24-06 03:22 PM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? An update on things: Hmm... return to the Lost City? Sounds like it. They already covered Cynicidia in Dragon though, but I guess that doesn't cover the dungeon itself. There are other modules I would have liked to see much more than that one, but at least it is a start. Now, what I would really like to see is a huge HC update of Castle Amber in the style of the new Castle Ravenloft. That would be sweet! Havard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : gawain_viii Date : 10-24-06 04:54 PM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? And, it can be quite easily setting generic (more so than even IoD) since the extent of the setting specifics was "on your way to Glantri City, a fog overcomes the party".... everything else is set in Averoigne. Change the name of Glantri City to read "the capital city" and voila! it now fits into every campaign ever envisioned. Now if I'd noticed this thread first I wouldn't have posted the following in the creature conversion thread. :) NEXT MONTH IN DUNGEON MASQUE OF DREAMS by B. Matthew Conklin III A masquerade ball at a remote desert oasis turns tragic when the party is crashed by goblin minions of a priestess of Zargon. Can the PCs rescue the kidnapped guests before they vanish into the desert, the latest victims of the Lost City of the Valley of Death? A D&D adventure for 1st-level characters. A bit more specifics on the issue from James Jacobs at ENWorld: Issue #142 may contain three "core" adventures, but one of those, "Masque of Dreams," happens to be a core adventure that is set in Mystara. We don't pimp that fact that much, because we want the casual reader to not be scared away by the fact that this adventure's set in a non-core game world, but the fact of the matter is that it falls into the category of "Campaign World Adventure." So it is pretty much going to be an explicitly Mystara adventure, even though it will use only core 3.5 elements. Swweeeeet! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : Hugin Date : 10-26-06 11:40 AM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? James is as powerful an agitator for Mystara as I am. He works on a magazine with far fewer (but much larger) pieces every month, though, and thus has fewer opportunities. That said, Dungeon looks to be giving a lot more Mystara support than Dragon in the coming year. Not just the forthcoming adventure, either... Edit: Fixing bad grammar. Eww... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 15] Author : Eric Anondson Date : 11-04-06 10:11 PM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? I've always thought that Mystara would have been a great resource to use for Dungeon's adventures than Greyhawk... and I'm as big a fan of Greyhawk as I am of Mystara. Mystara just offer a wider variety of cultures and locations and situations than Greyhawk does... and Dungeon magazine really needs to cater to a very broad spectrum of fandom. If the day comes when WotC gets possessive about Greyhawk I have deeply hoped that Paizo would make an offer to use Mystara as its generic placeholder setting for all of its non-FR/non-Eberron adventures in Dungeon magazine. Wishful thinking... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 16] Author : The_Great_Green_God Date : 11-05-06 10:31 PM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? Being a supporter of all things Known World myself I have to say that I think it is nice that my favorite published D&D world is getting more play these days what with monster articles, the Isle of Dread, and now a little nod to one of the best all around B series adventures ever in my never humble opinion. I also like the admittedly haphazard smattering of ethnicity in the Gazetteers. Now all we need is Norwold, Bargle, the Master of the Desert Nomads, Alphaks, and the Broken Lands, and my life will be complete. -GGG -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 17] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 11-27-06 12:15 AM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? This just in: Just a quick note to Mystara fans: The names given on the map of the desert are taken from the Emirates of Ylaruam, if I remember correctly, so it should be no problem fitting it into that game world (which already had the location of the Lost City more or less pegged down anyway, so I decided to go ahead and maintain that location in the adventure). Dragon #315 has a map of the city of Cynedicea, as well as more details on the deities of the Lost City. And includes a 3.5 stat block for Zargon!! As for the male-dominated version of the Emirates, the easiest change is of course to simply change Lady Vestang's gender. I'd recommend not changing it though; making her an exception to the rule adds a lot of style and character to her. There's also been some more discussion on this in the Expedition to the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=743709) thread and the Dragon Issue 351 (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=740910) thread, for those who might have missed it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 18] Author : havard Date : 11-27-06 05:21 AM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? This is beginning to sound more and more exciting! :) Another coverage of the Lost City didn't sound too inventive for a Dungeon Adventure at first, since they already did something on it in Dragon, but now I am beginning to like this alot more. I just noticed this (http://dungeonmagazine.pbwiki.com/Masque%20of%20Dreams) in the thread about Return to the Lost City on the Paizo boards. It's The Great Green God posting some additional material for his adventure that didn't make it into the magazine; sort of a "director's cut" as it were. It might be useful or interesting to everyone here who picks up the issue. On another note, that Dungeon Wiki looks like it might be interesting. I'm going to poke around it and see what else it might conjure up. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 20] Author : The_Great_Green_God Date : 11-30-06 12:02 AM Thread Title : Re: Mystara in Dungeon? The Lost City adventure in Dungeon Magazine #142 is very well done, and the director's cut makes it even better. It puts an oasis between Parsa and Sulba, with a hamlet or village around it. There is a mention of a brass dragon whose family was slain by a blue dragon, I thought it might have been a reference to the blue dragon ruler in Ylaruam Bruce Heard mentioned in his article on dragon kingdoms, but the names of the two blue dragons are different. Still fits well into Ylaruam though. One note, it mentions the goblin kidnappers take the captives 120 miles through the desert before they reach the Lost City outpost. If you were to do this on the standard 8 hex trail maps or gazeteer maps this would take you out of the desert and into the foothills of the mountains which border Rockhome and Soderfjord. So you need to either shorten the distance or have the goblins take a roundabout route. I thought the magazine mentions in this adventure that the ruin where the final battle occurs is an outpost of the Lost City, but a link in this thread seems to refer to it being the actual lost city site of B4. Is it one or the other? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 09:30 AM.
