I know they were a mixed package but I wanted to check out some reviews before I started looking into which ones to get outside the core 4. There are some (not expecially useful, though) on Amazon. Still, there are a few things I can say myself. 1) Books on very specialized classes tend to be not so brilliant, since there is little to add -- the books on Rangers and Paladins, for example, don't add much to these classes. The complete Bard is somewhat better, as it uses the Bard template to build very different subclasses that stress the varied natures of the Bard(as a fighter, the Gallant and Blade, as wizard, the Loremaster and Riddlemaster, as thief, the Jester and the Jongleur). 2) OTOH, books on very generic classes are usually better: CFH and CTH are possibly the best of the lot. 3) The CPH is an oddball -- potentially a good idea (how to build specialty priests), but the implementation leaves too much to the DM (i.e., there are only soft guidelines on balancing everything, and they are not compatible with anything else, especially with the existing priest classes). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : elondir Date : 10-16-06 09:26 AM Thread Title : Re: PHBR series One thing you can do is look for an old copy of the AD&D Core Rules CD-ROM and its Expansion. The expansion has all of the core books, Player's Option, and the PHBR books with it in electronic form, along with the be-all end-all of 2nd edition and/or Player's Option character generators, a great treasure hoard generator (IMHO an utter necessity in 2e), and a good monster database. You can find lots of data files on the net, but my advice is to back up the actual database instead of import/export for re-installs, becuase the import tool slows to (slower than) a crawl on very large data sets. 10,000 data items will take upwards of four hours to import or about two minutes by just cutting and pasting the file. Oh and don't forget to download the Complete Necromancer's Handbook add-on from WotC for free. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:18 AM.
