B) How willing are you and your players to chase down enough to use it? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : JeckAndon Date : 10-11-06 08:51 PM Thread Title : Re: New or Old: which should i get i already bought the supplement that details an entire city and i found good deals on amazon.com -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Gryllmyre Date : 10-12-06 01:31 AM Thread Title : Re: New or Old: which should i get You may be better off trying to use the supplement information in a 3.5 format, so that if some cool and new product comes out from WOTC, you'll be able to make use of it without too much work. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : havard Date : 10-12-06 11:20 AM Thread Title : Re: New or Old: which should i get What supplement? I'd say you really only need one edition of the rules. If you are happy with those rules, supplements can easily be converted back and forth between the editions. Each edition has its own qualities and drawbacks which is why there are fan groups for each edition. I never cared much of AD&D2e myself, but many of the supplements and settings made for it are awesome. Ofcourse if you are like me, you want to check out all of the editions both advanced and non-advanced :) You can get most of the OOP stuff on pdf without having to pay too much. This should allow you to decide whether you want to play AD&D (in this case you may get a paper version of the player's handbook), or to convert the AD&D supplements you want to use (City of Gold? City of Delight? City System? There are quite a few AD&D supplements that detail a single city) to the rules set which you're currently using. Other than that, it's pretty hard to say whether AD&D would fit you or not -- I'd tell you that AD&D 2e is the best *D&D ever designed, others would tell you the same for 3e, etc. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : weasel fierce Date : 10-24-06 10:52 PM Thread Title : Re: New or Old: which should i get on the premise that more D&D is better, grab AD&D (1st edition is, in my opinion, better, but 2nd edition is a lot more accessible), then go from there. Having more games never hurts -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Falconer Date : 10-25-06 06:30 PM Thread Title : Re: New or Old: which should i get Advanced D&D is a great game, and if you're already interested in checking out, I definitely encourage you to do so. FWIW several publishers are beginning to publish for pre-3e nowadays, so the game is far from dead. Learning a new rule system just for a single supplement may be a lot of work, and if you haven't played it before, you might not like it. Some of us old-timers may tell you that earlier editions are better and that you'd find the game more enjoyable. In other words, don't waste your time changing to another edition, unless it's because of the edition. Changing for a single supplement is probably too much work for one supplement. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:18 AM.
