So i was curious about the place :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : RobertFisher Date : 11-29-06 10:06 AM Thread Title : Re: The giants plains 1.What is the reason "The giants plain" and "Giants run mountains" has their names? Because giants dwell there perhaps. (Which seems to be what you're going for.) 2. is there giants to find there? So, we'll assume, "Yes". 3. if yes what kind of giants? All kinds of giants live in mountains. Fire giants prefer volcanoes. Front giants prefer to live in the snowy areas near the peak. Cloud giants prefer to live near the altitude of clouds. Storm giants prefer the summit. You could have enclaves of all of them on the same mountain/range. Hill & stone giants would probably live in caves at the lower elevations. They would be the most likely type to live in the plain. Though, perhaps the name of the plain is because one particular giant (of any type) rules the area. 4. What gods do they worship? I'd go with the Norse gods. Altho', just about any patheon would probably do, since legends of giants seem to be fairly universal. I just tend to follow the cliche of Norse-ish giants. Of course, if you're looking for opponents to the PCs, there's always the possibility of demon/devil/Lovecraftian horror worship for Chaotic giants. In my world they might not have souls & thus might not worship gods at all. 5. Are there slaves Sure. If you were a giant, wouldn't you enslave the shorter races? (^_^) It's always good for big opponents like giants to have some shorter minions the PCs have to get past first. 6. Refer to what books I can find them in I'd look to my Basic/Expert rulebooks, AD&D Monster Manual, & AD&D Deities & Demigods for inspiration. I'd also look to see what I could find on giants in the various books on myths & legends in my library. (Nothing specific jumps to mind.) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Ferns Date : 11-30-06 03:13 AM Thread Title : Re: The giants plains To answer some of my own questions, and to summarize what i've found out: 1.What is the reason "The giants plain" and "Giants run mountains" has their names? The giants run mountains has there name from an old dwarven vs. giants war where 5000 giants fell, and ran and hide in the upper level of the underdark. 2. is there giants to find there? Yes there are still giants to find! both on, inside and under the mountains If yes what kind of giants? Fire giants prefer volcanoes. Which there is, there is a vulcano that is inactive and is used by the dragon Behrshimmer an ally to Dove Falconhand Front giants prefer to live in the snowy areas near the peak. The peaks are high enough for this. Cloud giants prefer to live near the altitude of clouds. Another possibility here. Storm giants prefer the summit. And you could have enclaves of all of them on the same mountain/range. Hill & stone giants would probably live in caves at the lower elevations. And here the heavy artillery is put out! Dodkong and his Dodforers are here. An exit from Behrshimmers cave leads to the upper levels of underdark. And here resides undead stonegiants, stonegiants and their slaves. Dodkong has acquired an artifact that gathers the tribes of stonegiants and he himself has raised himself to lichdom. 4. What gods do they worship? The norse god Altho' Grolantor (hill giants) Kostchtchie (Frost giants) Skoraeus Stonebones (stone giants+ undead) Surtr (fire giants) Thrym (another deity of frost giants) OR!!!! In some world they might not have souls & thus might not worship gods at all. 5. Are there slaves Yes. Hobgoblins, goblins and other "lower" creatures, cave bears (pets) 6. Refer to what books I can find them in AD&D Monster Manual, AD&D Deities & Demigods Dragon magazine #254 Drizzt Do Urdens guide to the Underdark So this is pretty much what I've found out, if you have anything else to add, please post replies so I can add it to my campaign and make it more "realistic" for my players :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Fulnitus Date : 12-04-06 05:13 AM Thread Title : Re: The giants plains If you really want to flesh it all out, get a copy of TSR 9487 'Giantcraft'. Below you'll find the backcover text. I think you can get a pdf version for $4,95 at a variety of sites. (though having the real thing is much better of course ;) ) The religion chapter is very good imho, rune magic is a nice addition and also the alignment issue (good and evil depends on your species' views) is nicely fleshed out. The book is originally meant for the Forgotten Realms setting, but actually it is not taht realms specific. Also, converting it to another edition (but why would one want to?) shouldn't be too hard. Good luck! As Kiruna reached the mouth of the cavern, she realized the heat was emanating from two towering braziers, one on either side of the entrance. Deep gouges-now she could see they were runes, of ancient origin-ringed their bases and rims, their lines and curves carved by instruments far larger than any she could wield. Her eyes adjusted slowly to the darkness within the stone giants' home. On the walls she could make out stunning friezes and portraits, all carved in bas-relief with artistry like none she had seen back home is in Shadowdale. Kiruna stood for a moment, gazing on these immense figures and faces, her reverie broken only by the realization that she was shivering; no, not shivering, but being shaken. The floor was quivering, and, echoing in the depths of the darkness, footsteps approached? Enter the world of Faerun's giants as first revealed in Troy Denning's "Twilight Giants" trilogy of novels. Giantcraft presents game material based on those characters and events, including: * Statistics for Princess Brianna, Tavis Burdun, and others * A section on player-character giants and giant-kin * A chapter on giant religion * A new magic-using class, the runecaster * Details on giant rune magic * Detailed lairs for the main giant types found in the Ice Spires and their environs. Read about the levendhule, the forbidden "living cave"; uncover the secrets of the Ordning; learn the history of the sons and daughters of Annam. Dungeon Masters and players alike are certain to find invaluable information in this latest Realms sourcebook. Familiarity with the novels is not necessary to use this accessory. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Ferns Date : 12-04-06 07:56 AM Thread Title : Re: The giants plains Thx Fulnitus :) I have acquired the pdf for now, and wow, there is really some good stuff I can use in my campaign. My campaign is set in the AD&D 2nd ed setting, so no need for any conversion here. Nice!! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:22 AM.
