One of the Dragon's had something about herbs and poisons I think. Can't remember for sure though. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Llwch Date : 01-08-07 10:05 PM Thread Title : Re: Poisons for 2nd edition Me and my friends still use the 2nd edition because... well we enjoy it more. Information on how to handle (pardon the pun) poisons is detailed in the DMG. Your DM should have all the info he needs on these deadly little items. Be careful though... reckless usage of poisons can give your PC a nasty reputation - bounty hunters and avenging paladins can make for *very* nasty opponents. Also, watch how you carry these toxins. I had a player once who carried a paralytic poison in a flask tied in a belt pouch. It worked great for him - too well, in fact. So well that when he fell into a pit trap, the bottle failed its save vs fall (required by the rules) and it failed. Paralyzed, he was easy meat for the (starving) ghouls at the bottom of the pit. Even had the other gamers making the (gruesomely appropriate) sound effects at that particular moment... Needless to say, that particular trap worked *way* better than I had intended. Hmmm... That probably explains why my gamers were so afraid of item saving throws - as this wasn't the first time their equipment had failed at the wrong moment (IRL, doesn't that usually happen? When are we ever prepared for any crisis we face?). Made for great gaming though. Ah... those were the days. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Horemheb442 Date : 01-08-07 10:15 PM Thread Title : Re: Poisons for 2nd edition We always just took them from reality. Since I am an Anthropology/ Archaeology major, I picked up a bunch about various poisons from all over the world. There seem to be 3 general kinds. Insinutive, Ingestive and Contact. The first one needs to get into the bloodstream some way, needle, daggar, arrow, swordblade, etc. The second one needs to be swallowed. Food, drink, chewing tobacco, whatever. The third just needs contact with the skin. An example of the first would be kurare, the South American central nervous system paralizer. Arsenic would be an example of the second. The mythical "Red Death" is an example of the third. As far as potency, that's up to the DM.:) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Mock26 Date : 01-16-07 02:10 PM Thread Title : Re: Poisons for 2nd edition Dragon Magazine #81 had an incredibly detailed article about various poisons that was truly incredible. If you can find some back copies of the magazine I would suggest getting that particular one. Take care and have a great day.... ciao, john. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : oralpain Date : 01-17-07 10:14 AM Thread Title : Re: Poisons for 2nd edition I never found the article in dragon #81 to be all that impressive, though it is certainly better than the DMG rules. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : elondir Date : 01-19-07 12:19 PM Thread Title : Re: Poisons for 2nd edition AD&D poison is in the DMG, and each poison is givven a letter of the alphabet. So injected fatal poison is "Type E" for example (I think). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
