Or, if you are already on, let us say, Gehenna, can you teleport w/out error to the 2nd layer, or how about the 4th? What about if you use a normal teleport spell to try to go from the 1st layer to the 4th... after all it is on the same plane...? I'm not sure on any of these issues. One can imagine fiends of lower layers, especially in the Abyss, directly teleporting to the Plane of Infinite Portals (1st layer), but then again, as a DM, does one want his players teleporting without error directly from the Prime to the 128th layer of the Abyss, or to the 9th layer of Baator for that matter? Indeed, even if you are already on the first layer of the given Plane, let us say now Baator, teleporting down into the 9th layer seems a little, shall we say, "out of spirit." I mean, 9999 gelugons are guarding the "only portal" into Nessus (the 9th layer), which is at the very bottom of Caina, the 8th layer of Baator. It seems a little silly for such defenses to exist if any hapless mortal can just teleport down to the 9th. Then again, I have read someone comment, w/out citing sources, that the bottom layers of Baator may be teleported into, but cannot be escaped by such methods. Can anyone offer any clarity on this... I'm tired of researching. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : oralpain Date : 03-07-07 06:34 PM Thread Title : Re: Teleporting Through the Planes, into the Abyss Teleport only funtions within a given layer or crystal sphere. As far as I can make out, teleport without error can take someone from pretty much anywhere, to pretty much anywhere. Theoretically you could teleport without error from the elemental plane of earth directly to the 613th layer of the Abyss. However, location must still be known, and the chance of killing one's self is always significant. One must teleport to a solid surface, the minimum chance of teleporting low (to a location you have examined carefully in person) during interplanar teleportation is 2% (a very significant chance to an immortal and most mortals, who are not desperate), and teleporting low is nearly always fatal. According to "Guide to Hell", unauthorized teleportation into, or out of, Nessus simply does not work (Asmodeus/Ahriman, won't allow it, and being a greater god on his home plane/layer, he can back it up). The only way in is the portal at the botom of Cania, or by way of a little known part of the Styx, which in Nessus is patroled by legions of cornugons and pit fiends. Even if teleportation into Nessus was possible, it would be quite a feat to get most any being to risk a 15% chance (as Nessus qualifies as "Never Seen" for virtually everyone) of death to do so. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : emeriliath Date : 03-09-07 11:46 AM Thread Title : Re: Teleporting Through the Planes, into the Abyss Although this is slightly off topic, I believe that teleporting should be allowed on non-surfaces, such as into the air. If an accidental miscalculation can send you up into the air, why wouldn't the spell allow you to teleport specifically targetting the air. In the campaigns I have played, we have always allowed it. I do recommend some way to fly or fall gently, though. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : oralpain Date : 03-09-07 02:02 PM Thread Title : Re: Teleporting Through the Planes, into the Abyss Although this is slightly off topic, I believe that teleporting should be allowed on non-surfaces, such as into the air. I do recommend some way to fly or fall gently, though. It makes the spell vastly more powerful if teleportation to mid air is possible. There would essentially no chance of failure for teleporting into an area that lacks a roof, and interplanar teleportation would cease to be a last resort, and become common place/standard practice. I don't normally fuss about "balance", but teleport, esp interplanar teleports, without risk, can break so many things. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
