The Desert of Desolation series is for 1st Edition AD&D and includes: I3: Pharaoh http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=1081& I4: Oasis of the White Palm http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=1082& I5: The Lost Tomb of Martek http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=1083& Tracy Hickman of Dragonlance fame was the main designer. I used to have copies, and from what I remember, they were kinda neat in a weird New Agey sort-of-way. I seem to remember most of the action took place in another dimension or plane. Also, though the Desert of Desolation was originally a generic mini-setting, as far as I recall, it was later (also) placed somewhere in the Forgotten Realms. It looks like the modules were combined into a single book here: http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=1398& And here's the Acaeum page: http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/modpages/desert.html Hickman's original Pharaoh module was published by Daystar West, and purchased and modified by TSR. Daystar's only other publication, Rahasia (also by Hickman), is well known to Mystaraphiles as module B7 (also included in supermodule B1-9), and located in northeastern Karameikos. Has anyone worked on fitting the Desert of Desolation more definitely into Ylaruam and the Mystaran framework? I have a copy of I1, but I haven't even read it... :embarrass Havard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : JTrithen Date : 03-22-07 04:58 PM Thread Title : Re: Another Semi-Mystaran Mini-Setting?: Desert of Desolation Yeah, I think there was a thread or something out on Pandius about those modules, too. But I can't find it on Pandius.... I have the compiled "Desert of Desolation" book, and made some notes about starting to convert it a couple of years ago. IIRC, the Ylaruam GAZ suggested that the adventures would fit in the southern mountains. I think the first hurdle I was looking at when attempting that were some distance inconsistencies (but I'm not sure); they weren't a huge obstacle, as far as I recall. I wish I could find my notes (I had some thoughts on who the 'Immortals' involved would be, whether Barimoor might be involved I think, at one point, etc.); but, alas, with a quick search, I haven't located them yet. I'll look a little harder and see if I can't find them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Arcanda Date : 03-22-07 06:27 PM Thread Title : Re: Another Semi-Mystaran Mini-Setting?: Desert of Desolation I used I3 I4 and I5 in Ylaruam, as it is suggested in Gaz2 I placed the Desert of Desolation in Nithian mountains. I also played I9 Day of Al'Akbar, placing the town of Khaibar in Abbahan, actually renaming Khaibar as Abbashan. In I5 there is also a sea of glass in the middle of the desert, I used it as the great depression fused to glass by Immortal magic, from The Dead Place, ad adventure idea in gaz2, page 63. Some Thanatos minion (I used tanar'ris) come out from the sea of glass... an interesting twist! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Shane Date : 03-22-07 10:05 PM Thread Title : Re: Another Semi-Mystaran Mini-Setting?: Desert of Desolation I looks like I'm misremembering...that Desert of Desolation wasn't on a separate plane after all. It'd be neat to see a hex map of Ylaruam with the DoD area included.
