And after 10th level, is there any table that shows the appropriate monster based on how much XP they give? In my experience that's a DM's call. What on DM might consider "Appropriate Weath" might not be so "Appropriate" in another DM's estimation. Depends on the type of campaign being run, i.e. high magic, low magic, middling magic, and the goals of the campaign. One guide you could go by in determining how much wealth to let characters acquire per encounter is the "Treasure Type" listed for the monsters encountered and slain, adjusted per the DM's discretion as for what would be appropriate. And after 10th level, is there any table that shows the appropriate monster based on how much XP they give? There are no charts that do that for tenth level or below either. The Random Encounter charts 1 through 10 in the first edition DMG are not examples of appropriate monsters to pit against players of levels 1 through 10. For instance a creature from the Level X chart "Demon, prince", could wipe the floor with your average party of Level 10 characters in 1st edition AD&D. What these charts are attempting to show are examples of monsters who are roughly equivalent to each other in killing power, not what creatures are equivalent to a party of characters of X level. The way they can be used for your purpose is you can look at them when say,you know your players party can be challenged by, but ultimatly defeat 3 hill giants. Then per the monster level encounter chart Level VII, they can also probably be challenged by but ultimately defeat 1 Demon of type I, II, or III. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Eatable_Dice Date : 05-21-07 05:35 PM Thread Title : Re: Character Wealth and Encounter Level in AD&D 2nd This is why I like and hate AD&D 2š Edition...it was more hardcore, but I was far more uncertain. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : WizO_Paradox Date : 05-21-07 05:48 PM Thread Title : Re: Character Wealth and Encounter Level in AD&D 2nd There was no such thing back then, thus all the Monty Haul campaigns. :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Eatable_Dice Date : 05-21-07 08:10 PM Thread Title : Re: Character Wealth and Encounter Level in AD&D 2nd Sorry, didnīt get the joke...must be the language barrier. :-) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Varl Date : 05-21-07 09:23 PM Thread Title : Re: Character Wealth and Encounter Level in AD&D 2nd Is there any way to calculate the appropriate wealth for characters above 1st level in AD&D? Yeah. How rich do you want your campaign to be? Define what's wealthy in your campaign and use that value as a baseline to gauge treasure by, and then keep close track of what you give out. Easy. And after 10th level, is there any table that shows the appropriate monster based on how much XP they give? Appropriately? Heh. No, but the hit dice of creatures can be used as a general guideline for encounters. There was no such thing back then, thus all the Monty Haul campaigns. Heh. Yeah, we don't know what we're doing. :P -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
