I think the MM says that dragons that reach the adult age divide their total hit points by 4 to determine their effective level for saving throws. My question is for a silver dragon of adult age. It would have 50 HP divided by 4 = 12.5 The DMG implies that 12+1 to 12+4 HD equals 13 and 12+5 to 12+8 counts as 14. Does the 12.5 count as 12+4? I'm at work so sorry if this isn't clear. Thanks. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : MikeR7716 Date : 06-08-07 03:06 PM Thread Title : Re: Dragon saving throws in AD&D 1st edition Since normal Hit Dice are D8, the 12+1 through 12+4 would be similar to rounding down and 12+5 through 12+8 would be like rounding up. In this case, I would treat 12.5 as a 14. (The math is a little deceiving. 4 is half of 8 and 5 is half of 10. The trouble is you are working in two numeric systems. In Hit Dice system, +1, +2, +3, +4 basically "round down" to 13, while +5, +6, +7, +8 "round up" to 14. 4 numbers in each group, half of 8. In the decimal system, the 12.5 rounds UP because .0, .1, .2, .3, .4 round down while .5, .6, .7, .8, .9 round up. Both groups have 5, which is half of 10) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : lhmloa Date : 06-09-07 08:09 AM Thread Title : Re: Dragon saving throws in AD&D 1st edition Thanks for the help. After getting home and checking out the save table in the DMG, I noticed that levels 13-14 have the same saves anyway. Your explanation will definately help in the future as the party encounters increasingly older dragons polymorphed into various recurring allies and enemies. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
