I know this belongs in novels but I cannot find the Dark Sun novel forum. I have always been curious what happened to Agis. I can't find all of the Dark Sun books but I know basically how they end.

Try looking on Amazon.com or similar large online book retailers, search through ebay or even contact your local bookstore and see if they have any still left in stock. I know I've seen at least one or two of the novels fairly recently at a local Waldenbooks or Barnes & Nobles so they shouldn't be too hard to track down (even if they're not on the shelves, most retailers might have a few tucked away in some big dark warehouse just waiting for you).

Not that it matters since they've only been out for years now, but ahyhow. Aegis, probably the only person in the whole world o put some level of trust and hope into his long time friend Tithian is betrayed in the book Obsidian Oracle. Aegis and Tithian are arguing over the Dark Lense and in a psionic battle, Tithian slays Aegis.

I don't think Agis' stats were ever published, not even in the Asticlian Gambit

Of course, since he's dead, the point is somewhat moot.

I know that officially, no stats for Aegis were ever made. Unofficially, I've seen at least one version (I'm sure there were others that I missed somewhere).

Personally, I've never been one to create stats for 'famous' NPCs unless I intend to at some point have the PCs duke it out with them. NPCs from books or other major sources remain statless so that if I need them to act out their role, they can regardless of mechanics. I'd be far more inclined to stick to the rules if I have a stat block for a character in front of me (call it conscious, I dunno). Aegis, Rikus, Sadira, Tithian, Rajaat (amongst others of course) shall never have stats in my game, even if published somewhere else.

Lastly, there is no Dark Sun novel forum, so don't bother looking for it. There were only a few books published (13 I think, or just bad math skills) so there's not a whole lot to discuss about them. Posting here about DS novels is the most likely place to get an answer of some kind (or any kind, for that matter).

I was able to find all the novels through amazon.com's second hand network, at cheap prices ($50 for all of them). There are loads of them floating about out there...

agis official stats where made: in "city state of tyr" supplement.

he is 16 level psion.

in my campaign, Mon adderath (dregoth top templar) is going to murder him very soon (and half the council in a misterious explosion).

DOH!

I always forget that he was still alive by the time they released that.

*tears out offending page*

Heh, not really, but I still won't use em.

Btw, eyalrein, I'd be very interested in hearing a little more about your campaign background since it apopears you've developed it seperate from the novels and main setting.

IMHO the Tribe of One has to be hands down
the best DS books written. Thumbs up to Hawke!
It might even be on the Top 10 D&D Novel Series.

Man... I'll really have to buy those novels on ebay or something...

I just finished the obsidian oracle. Poor Agis. And poor Fylo too... That's the saddest part I think. Agis saying farewell to Fylo, saluting his courage and devotion to his only friend, telling how bards of all city-states will sing of his deeds, but Agis dies, so the tale of the lonely giant will never be heard again...

I was never very pleased with the novels. Troy Denning has a very chaotic writing style that has just never appealed to me (I couldn't even bring myself to finish his Bloodwars Trilogy for Planescape). I think he tried to hard to 'wow' people with the unusual or bizarre at every other paragraph and his pacing was perhaps too frantic. But that's just me. His stories themselves are unique (in a good way) and his characterization was well thought out and consitant. Other people find him very refreshing since his pacing doesn't slow very often and he has a great talent for narrating fight scenes, making his books very energetic.

All in all, I'd say your going to find his books hit or miss. Either you'll love them, or you'll at least be glad for the extra campaign material.

hi mach!
I DM now the second campaign.
the first one lasted for three years and was following the official timeline until the defeath of the crimson legion. from then on the first group destroyed abalach re and a little further.

this group is running for a year now, most of the SK are alive, but they are decedant and uncaring (except Hamanu who now that the planet will die with the current affairs).

Dregoth has began his ascend. he opened a rift to the kreen empire. he manipulates the party to gather the 5 orbs and soon he will make himself known.

mon adderath had arrived in tyr. he councils the vordon prince,
thitian was murdered by the former bard of the party to make room for vordon.

as Hamanu is nearing Tyr with a giant army, the party have just reached the destiny's kingdom where they seek the gateway to the element earth. mon adderath gave them means to cut hamanu's power from the vortex there.

when this will happen, hamanu will return to the vortex, but as he plans to destroy the party, Dregoth will come and blast Hamanu with his breath (hamanu will really look scared....).

the party will escape.

BTW
the elven preserver of the party is getting messages from a being who helps him around. it is Demetrius, right hand of Myron: Hamanu placed him in a time stasis prison some thousands of years ago - so he will not interfere with Hamanu taking the forces of Myron. the party will free him, and he will manage to take over the vortex. he will declare himself new sorcerer king of urik...

he's quite insane...

of course, hamanu will return some time in the future, the party will b e forced to help him reclaim the lion throne of urik...

-------------------------
after I finish the revision of the first campaign, Ill send you both story lines....

chau!

Just a pet peeve.

Aegis is the shield of Athena (if I recall correctly).

It's also a system on some U.S. Navy guided missile cruisers.

It's also from the computer game Master of Orion 2.

**********

Agis is the name of the guy from Dark Sun.

Minor difference...

I bought the first two Prism Pentad novels back when they were released but found them so awfully written that I couldn't bring myself to buy any more. I went back through them when I was getting my current DS campaign ready and highlighted all the bits that could be used as source material for the game. This is the only reason that I am getting all the others - to rip em apart and drag the game content kicking and bleeding from the pages.

If there are actually any well-written stories in there somewhere then that's a bonus!

Depends on which set of information you want to go on...

SPOILER...

...If you want to go by what is presented in the PP, they are just like plains giants, but sacrifice their head for an animal head, thereby gaining part of the animal spirit. They used the obsidian oracle (Dark Lens) to hold their disembodied heads in a pit with an obisidian cover so they couldn't escape and try and reattach themselves, which they do towards the end of the 5th novel.

If you go by the DSMM, they follow everything above that was presented in the PP, minus the fact that they needed the Dark Lens in order to remain this way.

That whole 'hiding their heads in the cellar' thing was something that really colored alot of my view of the pentad in general. That was perhaps the lamest several chapters I had ever read in my life. Granted, in Troy's defense though, Fylo rocked! I really felt bad for him in the end, and not just a little.

Yeah, I didn't like it either, basically the beastheads won't exist anymore till they can get ahold of the dark lens again. So I'm sticking with the DSMM version of the beastheads, which if I remember right they go through some kind of ritual of sorts, fit much more nicely IMO.

The fylo death scene made me tear up too.

Fylo dies quite heroically and fatalistically, realising that the only way his friend, his only true friend, Agis, can escape, is to delay the band of giants making their way towards his ship... Its certain death, he knows it, but it works even better than he had hoped... he still dies, and Agis salutes his courage and his life...

As for the disembodied giant heads, you may or may not like them, but I would just point that I myself didn't care for those giants until I read the Obsidian Oracle. I couldn't understand why some giants would bear those heads genetically. Makes more sense that way.

That's why you make it a ritual that doesn't include the Dark Lens.

;)

Or just use the DSMM entry and say it was the Pristine Tower or some other magical mutation.
