I'm looking for some help with initial story ideas to base a 4th age campaign on! Right now the well is dry and I was hoping maybe some of you good folks could give me a hand.

Just holler out anything that comes to you!

Thanks!

Try this:

War of the Dark Lance

It's an alternate 4th age campaign setting. Hope you enjoy.

One idea I had was that a small faction of draconians could send one back in time, using the Device of Time Journeying, and assassinate Sturm Brightblade (as well as any who could stop their plan) before the battle at the High Clerist's Tower, thus effectively removing the inspiration of the Knights of Solamnia. Without the aid of the Knights, the rest of Ansalon fell swiftly, creating an alternate timeline for Krynn. A small band of adventurers, thought too weak to stop any plan of the draconians, discover what has happened, and must now use the Device of Time Journeying to go back in time to the War of the Lance to stop the assassins. Can our heroes cause the draconians plan to fail? Can they even get to the Device of Time Journeying to go back in time?

I am in a similar situation. It is not that I don't have any ideas for campaigns, I simply don't know enough background stuff to tie it all together.

It's been ages since I originally read the books (and I'm just starting out with the chronicles trilogy again) and I have to admit that my basic knowledge is quite limited.
I got some timelines from dl3e.com and dragonlance.com and they refresh my memory a bit concerning the chronology of events, but I still lack info like where the knighthoods had their HQ (Solamnia, Neraka, Thakisis)

I generally lack the basic info needed to include some of those major events into the campaign, so it doesn't feel like the campaign is in an interely different world. The War of the lance is going on etc. and I want the players to feel as though they'¨re stuck right in the middle of it doing their own little part.

Heh. I've had time travel adventures too. There was one where a Silver dragon sent a select group to go back in time and prevent the dragon eggs from ever becoming stolen. The effects of changing time were chaotic, and it turned out without the dracs as basic infantry, Takhisis ran a more subversive war, and used Her forces more economically. Thus they came back to the present to find the Solamnics scattered, the elves in a major civil war, and the dragons both good and evil, nearly completely genocided. The silver dragon in this new reality is planning time travel to prevent the changes that occured in the timeline, with only the adventurers realizing they are the cause. Turned out my gamers went back in time to stop themselves, and ended up erasing their own existences. :-)

I had another "nightmare" future where the party returned to find themselves in "paradise." the dragonarmies were shattered. draconians are extinct. Solamnia, and the elven nations have solid control of most of the lands. Then the mistakes of Istar are repeated. The elves, dwarves and humans use minotaurs, ogres, goblins as slave labor and indentured servants. Anyone with any aptitude for magic is killed to "protect the masses." Kender are kept in Hylo/northern Ergoth to prevent thievery. Kendermore and it's forests were burned down in a huge campaign to drive kender to Hylo. The Kagonesti are conquered and re-educated. The rule of law and order brings about a ban on any non-solamnic carrying weapons openly. There are no adventures beyond hunting down escaping minotaur and ogre slaves, kender hunting, an the occasional rebel/raider. and anyone acting like an adventurerer bearing weapons openly are considered dangerous to civilized places, and are usually thrown in jail. :-)

Recently my gaming group played this adventure:

Short before the summer of chaos, Alanha and Porthios were declared a dark elves. At the same time a house tried to eliminate all competitors for the silvanesti throne, (included alanha who was expecting at that time). Several murders occur in Caergoth, Eastport and Silvamori.
The party followed the way to Caegorth (because of previous events) and found out of the conflict among elves. A party memeber died (an elf, who actually had to quit playing for a few weeks) and we decided to avenge him.

At the end we fought an old elven lich who was manipulating younger elves.
