Well?
My foundation would be called Bring Spelljammer back into print foundation. It would be for people who want to see some actual, new Spelljammer stuff on store shelves. I don't care if Wizards does it themselves (they have only two official worlds so far, that's not much) or farms it out to someone else as they did with Ravenloft. I just want it done.

I hereby found this foundation if there are no objections and claim member #1144 for myself.

I've seen these "foundations" around on the boards lately. I think I landed up becoming a member of the Kender Foundation.

To my knowledge, there is no Spelljammer foundation.

Now, we get into the question of seeing SJ in print again. Do you go with classic SJ, the Spider Moon version, an amalgam of the two, or something entirely new?

What about sales figures? Spelljammer, while a very cool setting, appeals to too small of an audience to really sell well.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy as can be to see SJ in print again. I just don't think it is very likely.

I think that a only fantasy space setting is not going to have mass appeal, but if WotC was to produce a book that has a title of something like 'Magical Worlds' with the premise that it gives 3 worlds that are nicely done but not toooo much detail and each world has something odd about it, with spelljammer like 'magic' that is part of one of the three worlds or a means to travel between them might have some appeal to a broader audience.

Such a book will intro some odd ways to handle magic or 'laws' that govern a world. Some things such as islands that are not only found in the seas and oceans of the world but floating above in the sky (not cload islands... real land mass those below can see and such landmass creates areas of perpetual night below with undead that exist even during 'daylight' hours.

While I am all for Spelljammer to be fully intro into 3E, I not believe that it will be so.

I believe that many in WotC do want to see spelljammer as part of the system and that many of the spelljammer creatures will in future products will find thier way to being written up (examples to date are the Clockwork Horror, Neogi, Mercane and Zodar) and some creatures might even replace some spelljamming critters such as the Abeii will likely replace the insectare. This process will likely be slow and painful and require ALOT of books for it to be pieced together. .... Just a thought on what I have been seeing.

It would not surprise me that if Andy Collins and others in WotC use my site, the offical site and other sites to glean material that has been converted by the spelljammer community... after all why do work when others have already done the work? I know that I use others works when I find it!

I think that ideally Spelljammer would be something of an amalgam between classic and Spider Moon with the emphasis on classic.
Here's what I'd like to see:
A setting book that contains:
Monster stats for neogi, arcane, dracons, giff, and radiant dragons.
Rules for dracon, giff, lizardfolk, and possibly arcane and neogi as PC races.
Guns.
Rules for spelljamming, crystal spheres, and phlogiston.
A chapter on the Rock of Bral as a home base.
The usual asortment of spells, magic items, and prestige classes.

A monster book with giant hamsters in all their glorious variations, deck apes, and other fun stuff. It should include ECLs where apropriate.

A setting book dealing specifically with the Spider Moon crystal sphere.

As for limited appeal, that may be the case, but I think there is just enough appeal that it could be profitable if handled right.

If I played spelljammer, I'd up the pirate-ish emphasis. Nothing like havin your matey transform into a bladed death machine with a gem-forehead when the cap'n tries to make you walk the plank into the void. :D

Seriously, I'd give i a couple pirate-y Gyar things, mix in some Sci-Fi, and Humor.. hey, it could be pretty good.

Foundations are not about what is or what is likely to be or even what has been.

They are about the future we wish to see.

Does no one wish to see a future that includes Spelljammer stuff?

Of course we do. In my case, I develop materials for Beyond the Moons' Krynnspace section.

I think you will find people like Night Druid and Static who work on Beyond the Moons, and Mark Doolan who works on Shattered Fractine. Both sites do killer work in regards to keeping Spelljammer alive.

The point is, there is work being done to keep Spelljammer alive, and to give it a future. However, that isn't to say that you can't participate in the development of a future for SJ.

The various foundations I've seen on the various boards appear to be "fan clubs" to me. Perhaps I'm wrong on that.

What, then, would be the purpose of a SJ Foundation, and how would those goals be obtained?

As for me, spelljammer will survive as long as others make contributions to sites that are willing to put new/conversion of spelljammer material up on internet for others to use. These are dark times for the spelljammer setting and all the more reason for new material to be created and made available to others. Do not shout for material to be made by WotC, just DO! Make your new material for spelljammer and then either make your own web site for sent it to one of the sites that will place it up on one of the active sites.

The sites mentioned are wonderful, but I want to see actual Spelljammer books on gamestore shelves some day.

The point of this foundation is to make it known that there is demand for such a thing.

Can I join?
If I can, I pick #373.

If I'm member #373 of the Bring back Spelljammer foundation, is putting it in my signature compulsory?

Yes you can join.
Go ahead and take that number.
It is not compulsory to include it in your sig, but it shows the pride you take in and level of commitment to the cause.
