Do you need the stats for it from the Complete Fighter's Handbook, or from the Player's Option series? Stats are similar, but not 100% identical. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : BevisIscariot Date : 06-11-07 10:41 PM Thread Title : Re: Question Both, if you have 'em handy -- otherwise, the player's option, since that's more recent. Also, can it be wielded 1-handed normally? And, if not, can you spend an extra prof. slot or something to wield it 1-handed? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Llwch Date : 06-11-07 11:10 PM Thread Title : Re: Question Both, if you have 'em handy -- otherwise, the player's option, since that's more recent. Also, can it be wielded 1-handed normally? And, if not, can you spend an extra prof. slot or something to wield it 1-handed? From The Complete Fighter's Handbook: Katana Cost Weight Size Type Speed vs. SM vs L 1H 100 gp 6 M S/P 4 1d10 1d12 2H 100 gp 6 M S/P 4 2d6 2d6 The Player's Option adds a new category... Knockdown value. 1H is d6, 2H is d8. The speed has also been modified to be Fast(4) in the same book. The katana is designed to be used either 1 handed, or 2 handed. One proficiency gives skill with both uses. 2H weapon style specialization should not grant any particular benefits, as this weapon (like a bastard sword) is designed to be used two different ways (with different stats for each method). Hope this helps. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : BevisIscariot Date : 06-11-07 11:17 PM Thread Title : Re: Question Thank you sooo much -- that's exactly what i needed. It's just a longsword (what D&D calls a bastard sword) of a different style. The manufacturing process did not make it a superweapon, it made a quality blade from the sub-par ore the japanese had. A well made western blade is just as lethal as a katana. Personally, in AD&D terms, I consider all katanas to be fine (+1 to damage) or exceptional (+1 to hit and damage) quality bastard swords (there are very few shodily made historical katanas - steel was too rare/precious to the japanese to waste), without the bonuses against heavy armor (from the C&Ts), as the cutting edge of a katana is more brittle than most western blades. However, since the edge was harder, generally sharper, and had mini serations, it would have slashed through light materials slightly better, so I allow the same bonus to apply vs. lighter armors. 2H weapon style specialization should not grant any particular benefits, as this weapon (like a bastard sword) is designed to be used two different ways (with different stats for each method). It would still give the speed factor bonus. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
